How Green Becomes Wood

"Even if it is not, some of the skills will be transferable, and you will always have it for you. But what matters most is you are doing something you enjoy." Dark told him, "I think you are more successful than most people your age."

"We can spend the rest of our lives talking in circles about who opened doors and who stepped through them and who did the real work." Dark told him seriously, "It is enough for me to tell you how well you have done."

"Definitely," Xander agreed. He turned and held up a wide belt he hadn't stained yet. It had a feminine flair to it, though no specific imagery, sticking to abstract. "Want to try this on? I think it might actually fit you."

"If you need me to," Dark said, unbothered by the femininity of the belt, "Although I do not know if it is necessary to comment how it may actually fit me as though I have a very wide waist."

"Sorry, Ba. You have a very nice waist. Very trim. No dad-bod in sight," Xander said with a straight face. He held out the belt and shook it lightly to suggest Dark take it.

Xander eyed the belt. He indicated for Dark to turn for him, and finally nodded. "Looks good. Sometimes I get the wide ones wrong and they don't lay right. It's hard to check on yourself."

"If you ask her, she would come out here," Dark pointed out, taking off the belt and handing it back to Xander, "Of course you do not have to, but you make a few things more aimed at women, it would seem, so having a woman try them may be beneficial."

"I usually just ask Alec, but I suppose I could ask her, sure," Xander agreed. Asking Daizi would be highly beneficial for quite a few reasons, he knew, but she couldn't see how it looked, only how it felt. He didn't want to accidentally make her feel bad about that.

"She would not say no," Dark said easily, knowing she'd just be delighted to be included, "I suppose I should check on my other two children and make sure they haven't painted each other."

"Might be a good idea," Xander agreed. "I'll think about inviting Mama out here." He wouldn't. He didn't know why, exactly, but he wouldn't invite her. He didn't mind if she came out, but inviting felt different. He couldn't remember ever really inviting Dark, either. Maybe a couple of times? He wasn't sure. He made a note to include his mother in something else soon.

Not knowing Xander had any real intention to invite Daizi, he didn't address it. Instead, he just said, "She would like that," and moved on. He just thought, with having been asked to model a feminine belt, it might be nice. "I should probably head inside, I do not want to delay your brother's homework, but I enjoyed getting to speak with you."

"Yeah, it was good. We should do it again sometime. Maybe without the belts." He held up the belt Dark had just tried on. "The width looks good on you. You should try Hollywood Viking sometime."
