How Green Becomes Wood

"I cannot say," Alec replied.

Xander looked up from fiddling with the device and trying to get it to stop talking to him. "You cannot say? Why?"

Alec grinned and took the device. "Because I cannot!" He flicked a button, and it reset properly. He handed it back to Xander.

"Huh. Well, this is going to be quite the reveal, then," Xander said. "Okay, who wants to go first?"

"I've already gone first in this game in our first round." Xander handed the device back to Alec. "Your turn to go first!"

Alec grinned. "Right-ho! Wait, shouldn't we do teams?" He turned and called, "Emma! Come join my team!"

Emma came over but frowned at him. "I'd prefer not to be summoned and ordered."

"Sorry," Alec said with a sheepish smile. "I got excited. Please be on my team? If I join with Xander, we'll be unfairly unstoppable."

Emma sighed but sat down. "I suppose that would be true. Alright, let's do it!"

Xander looked at Sloan. "Tag. I choose you. Accept or deny?"

"This is usually less chaotic and more understandable, so a different type of fun, I guess," Alec said. He poised his thumb. "Ready? Go!"

Emma got the phrase almost immediately, so Alec passed it on to Austin, who stuttered and stammered, but Becky managed to figure it out just before time was up, and he handed it over as fast as he could to Sloan.

It took Sloan a little bit longer to figure it out, but she did manage to do so, while occasionally playfully chiding Xander about what kind of a clue is that?! Then, thankfully, she was able to pass it on to Peter as quickly as possible.

Xander teased Sloan right back and made faces at her as he passed on the device to Peter. Peter did his best to convey the phrase to Milo, but his points of reference were a bit different than Milo's.

Peter practically threw the device at the next person and apologized to Milo for being a terrible partner. He was laughing and in good spirits, but he did feel bad he wasn't better for Milo's sake.

The game continued with the teams neck in neck, getting more and more into it as the went. Emma was really good, as was Xander. Austin was terrible, but a good sport about it. Peter did his best but wasn't great. Alec was good until he got the giggles and couldn't focus.

Milo never quite improved, he got too nervous under pressure. He did his best, but the problem was his mind would go absolutely blank. Sloan faired better, but she and Xander still weren't always on the same page with things, because she had different references. Still, she held her own just fine.

It was close, but Xander and Sloan finally pulled ahead in the end with Emma and Alec right behind. Austin, Becky, Milo, and Peter were close to each other, but definitely on the losing end.

"That was a lot of fun," Alec said, casually leaning back to look and see if Dark had finished yet.

"I agree, that was rather enjoyable," Emma said. She checked her watch. "I have time for one more game before my mother comes to pick me up."

"Oh, I didn't know you were leaving this early," Alec said.

Emma shrugged. "Sorry."

They hadn't even had cake yet, Sloan thought, but wasn't going to say it. If Emma wanted to stay longer, but couldn't, it'd just rub it in. Regardless it'd only upset Alec, so instead she asked, "Did Milo get a picture of your painted tattoo?" as Dark, Daizi, and Ivy came around to check on the party.

"Oh, no, I didn't." Emma glanced at Milo. "Do you mind doing that now?"

Alec looked up and smiled at Dark and Daizi. "Second place! Not bad, right?"

"First place," Xander boasted. "Slo's a good partner."

"Sure," Milo mumbled, "That's no problem."

"The spider and goose designs were a good idea," Dark said, arms folded across his chest, one shimmering in the light, "She told us you wanted them on our arm, but we agreed it would not show up." He had instead gotten it on the same cheek Daizi had gotten the goose. He could only hope the twins appreciated it because he felt absurd.

"You scored in your birth order," Daizi chuckled, "How fitting."

"Alright. Were you taking them over there?" Emma pointed toward the spot where Milo had taken the other pictures, already walking toward it.

Alec scrambled to his feet to look at them better. "Ba! Mama! They are gorgeous!"

"Very nice, sir! Ma'am," Peter approved, giving Dark a thumbs up.

"Your arm is simply to die for!" Becky squealed.

Milo mumbled confirmation and scurried after her. Somehow, despite being taller than her, it seemed like he had to really hurry to keep up with her. "You can really, um, pose however you'd like," He told her, "just as long as I can see the art."

"Thank you," Dark said, "it is not my usual style."

"It's very festive," Daizi grinned.

Emma checked her carefully done waves were laying properly and struck a simple pose, smiling as she displayed her arm. "How is this? I hope it is to your liking."

"You should try it again sometime," Xander told him. "It looks pretty cool."
