How Green Becomes Wood

A peculiar smile crossed Daizi's face as Becky referred to her husband as a straight guy, but chose not to correct her, "We're both a bit unusual, so it was only natural we'd both attract someone who's a bit odd. But I hope you keep your standards high, rather than settling."

"I can't help that!" She laughed, "Anyway, we still basically won both rounds. We made a good team."

"It kinda, um, depends on your preferences. I don't play a lot of Nintendo games, I only really like some Zelda games, but, you know, if you're huge into Mario and Animal Crossing and the larger set, Switch is better. They do have some ports for non-Nintendo games, but like. The Steam deck let's you play literally any game released on PC."

"Aw, thank you! That's the nicest thing anyone's ever said to me about dating," Becky smiled. "You're so cool, Mrs. D."

Xander nodded. "We'll have to keep in mind to be each other's partners in anything like this. We'll wipe the floor with any competitors."

"Okay, that makes sense, and is really cool," Alec said, nodding. "I don't play games much - I think that's pretty obvious - but I love listening to game soundtracks and stuff."

Daizi smiled warmly at Becky, "Thank you. And I mean it, it's okay to be picky. It's better than ending up with someone crusty."

"They'll end up praying you and Alec are on the same team again," She grinned, "That's how good we'll be."

"Some of them are really good," Milo agreed, turning as Dark once more approached them, the sheet of paper he had taken earlier in his hand.

"Crusty?" Becky giggled. "That's so right, Mrs. D! I guess I have plenty of time, but, man, I'm so jealous watching you and Mr. D!"

"Damn straight," Xander agreed and finished off his cake. He looked up when Dark approached.

Alec looked up as well and eyed the paper curiously. "Hi, Ba! What's that?"

"Daizi told me we should let her finger paint, but that is an at-home project," Dark said, not loving the thought of how messy she'd become.

Sloan came to look, "Wow, it's a masterpiece. She really worked hard."

"Some people would be delighted to see a baby art gallery," Sloan grinned.

Dark glanced over towards Daizi, "The way she was describing it, it seemed like it needs to be on the deck, on a tarp."

"Good point," Xander mused. "Maybe I should look into this as a hole in the market. Open a gallery, sell Ivy's paintings, take a commission, put most of it into a college fund for her."

"We could clear out the kitchen floor and put the tarp down there, and kitchens are made to get dirty and then clean," Alec said cheerfully.

"Not a bad plan," Sloan said, "If she has baby friends, you can start a whole supply chain."

"That is true, but we would need to really cover the cabinets." Dark replied, thinking about it, "I still think outside is better. We could use the garden hose on her afterwards."

"She's got one friend, I think. Might be able to get more," Xander mused. "Worth a shot."

Alec had the image of Dark power washing Ivy and rolling her around on the grass pop into his head. He broke down laughing at the idea. "Ba!" he giggled. "That's awful!"

"It is better than tracking paint through the rest of the house trying to get her to the tub," Dark replied, a subtle amused glint in his eyes. "Think how slippery she already can be, now imagine chasing her down when she is covered in paint."

"Hey, I didn't say I would do it. Just that it was an option for other people. Me, I am very happy to not do that since I live there and you'd make me clean it up," Alec told him, grinning.

"A lot of people have access to your home and paint," Alec pointed out. "It could even happen during a party!"

"What are you guys talking about?" Xander asked.

"About how letting Ivy spread paint through the house would be a great revenge for someone who was wronged by Ba."

"Ah. Yeah, it would be. I could see our aunt doing it if she'd think like that. More like Cooger, though."

"Yeah, Cooger would do it."
