How Green Becomes Wood

"Alec was absolutely delighted and acting like he had just become a father with the way he was talking about her. The kitten herself just almost immediately fell asleep on Tarot and stayed there." Cooger told her while batting his hands to play with Soup.

The calico reared up and attacked Coogers hands. She darted away and then ran back to slap him some more. She didn't use claws, only paw pads, until she got very hyped. Then there were slight claws.

"Aw, that's sweet! I hope I get to see her from time to time," Lex chuckled. "Does he have a name yet?"

Cooger was so used to being attacked by cats, he didn't effectively flinch, although he stopped engaging in the game. He was pretty sure he couldn't feel cat scratches any more. "Not yet. Alec pitched a name he didn't realize was one of Dark's exes. Oh, Ivy was absolutely fascinated by her."

Lex laughed and sat down at the kitchen table. "No! And I'm guessing it was something more wild than a 'dumped because of a mood ring' story. Good thing he wasn't sold on the name, then. It must be different for her to have a cat in her house instead of going out to see them. I hope they get along in the long run. How'd Xander take it?"

"I think they'll get along just fine. They were damn good with each other. Look it," He took out his phone and took out a brief video he had taken, beginning from when the kitten walked over to Ivy and ending just after Daizi stopped her from falling after her big sneeze, "I think they're best friends for life. Xander seemed alright with her, no strong feelings either way I think."

"That's sweet," Lex smiled. "I'm glad he got his kitten. Sounds like he's been wanting it for a while. You're like a matchmaker for cats."

Soup left Cooger and trotted over to hop up into Lex's lap. She stayed there being pet for a bit and then hopped up onto the table and started looking around and tapping all the random stuff left on the table.

"I basically am. The whole point of cat rescue is getting the babies to their forever homes," Cooger replied, watching Soup wander about, causing chaos, "Soup here, for example... I never, ever would have suggested she go live at the Necropolis."

"She'd be a menace there," Lex agreed. "It's just that when I hear about rescues, normally, it's the people adopting them that are expected to pick the right one. Not the rescuers. Or, I guess the cats pick their people." She glanced over and casually reached over to catch an empty glass as Soup knocked it over. She set it back on the table close to her. Soup looked vaguely disappointed at the lack of drama and attacked a receipt.

"A lot of people adopt cats based on who they think is cutest. With kittens it isn't the worst idea, although I'll ask things like if they have breakables." He nodded to Soup knocking over a glass, "Obviously I'll tell them if the cat is more snuggly or more playful. But with older cats it's more important."

"Makes sense," Lex agreed, nodding. "I'm thinking of adding some more cat stuff to help her climb up. She loves being up. I'd do some really cool stuff, but - and I hate myself for saying this - but I'm thinking of resale value." She made a face at the statement.

"I can't believe you're thinking of moving somewhere else after all this work we did on it," Cooger said with a sigh, also knowing he'd miss having her right next to his best friend, "At least you'll get more from it than you put into it."

"That's true," Lex smiled. "It won't be for a couple of years, and it'll be annoying not to be next to your brother. I feel like you won't be able to randomly stop by as easy anymore."

"And I've got connections," Cooger replied, brushing a strand of her hair back, "Help get you to see places before they're officially on the market. Make sure you don't move into a place that's falling on your shoulders again."

"Hmm, but if I don't get a place that's partially falling down, then I won't get an excuse to hire a hot handiman anymore," Lex said with a smirk. "It's always a pleasure to watch him work."
