How Green Becomes Wood

Ivy leaned against the edge of the tub, staring at Kiki, and laughed at the cat playing in the water. Pausing for a moment to watch the cat, Dark sighed and said, "I thought cats were meant to hate water. I suppose there are exceptions to every rule."

Kiki blinked at him happily and shook her head when water got in her ear. Water droplets sprayed in every direction. She was quite content here in the dripping water! It was fun!

After a while, Alec realized that Kiki was missing. He went around the house trying to find the small, black cat, but she was nowhere around. "Mama, have you heard Kiki?" he asked, looking under the couch.

"Huh. I suppose so, but she normally sleeps on my bed," Alec frowned. "Maybe she's trying out one of her other beds for once." He headed upstairs. "Kiki, where are you?" he called softly.

"True," Alec agreed, nodding. "True. She's probably sleeping in a random corner and enjoying her peaceful time."

Kiki, meanwhile, was having fun in the bathroom sink. She'd lain on her back, belly to the drips, staring at them as if hypnotized. Droplets were awesome!

"Okay, Ivy, my darling, it is time to get out of the bath, okay?" Dark offered, holding out his arms.

"No!"

"I know you love to play, Ivy," Dark sighed, "But now it is time to get ready for bed."

"No!"

With a sigh, Dark glanced at Kiki, "I also have to turn off the faucet, you know."

Kiki did not realize immediately that the water had been turned off. Then it dawned on her that something was wrong. She rolled to her paws and started investigating the sink. Where was the water? Why wasn't it dripping? This made no sense! "Mew?" she called, pawing at the faucet. That was where the water had come from. Why did it end? Pawing didn't seem to help, so she decided to call for reinforcements. She looked at the Very Tall Man and cried out, "Mew! Meeeewwww!"

"Your time is over," Dark told her, "If you want more water, you may go complain to your primary owner." Then he went to Ivy and knelt back down beside the tub, preparing himself to ease Ivy out.

Kiki cried loudly and persistently for several long minutes before giving up. She hopped out of the sink and trotted through the house. The first human she found was Daizi, and she looked up at her with pitiful cries.

"Do I hear Kiki?" Alec called from the other room.

Hearing the cat crying, Daizi bent down sympathetically, "What's the matter habibti? Why are you crying? Yes, Alec, she's here," then she reached out one hand to pet the cat before immediately withdrawing it, "Why are you wet!?"

Alec came trotting in. "There you are! Where have you been?" He stared at his cat. "Why are you wet?!" He reached down as Kiki cried pitifully. "You poor thing! Wait, did you fall in the bath?"

Alec clucked his tongue sympathetically and carefully scooped up the kitten. "She's dripping. Careful, Mama. There's water droplets everywhere she's been. I'm going to go grab a towel for her, and then I'll clean this up."

Kiki meowed unhappily, but not because she was wet - although now she was getting very cold from the wet - but because she wanted the water back! Alas, humans were very stupid even if they were kind, and they could not understand her.

"Alright. Good luck! Come on, Kiki, let's get you dry and warm," Alec soothed, carrying her to the bathroom the twins shared. He soon had her swaddled up in a towel, and he wasn't certain if he wasn't just projecting, but it seemed like she was actually enjoying the process of getting dry. Weird. He took some time to get the worst of the water out of her fut, swaddled her up in a warm towel, and used Ivy's baby sling to settle her against his chest while he used another towel to dry the floor. Kiki settled in, purring happily while going for a ride.
