How Green Becomes Wood

"As a twin, I am biologically wired to be competitive with the other half," Alec said. "Yes, I know, 'The other half,' is usually reserved for romantic partners, but I think it's applicable to twins. Just... not in general public where it can be very confusing."

"You could, but then she may try to eat your non-edible glitter if she finds it," Dark pointed out, but then after a few moments added, "I suppose she would try to eat it regardless."

"She would one-hundred percent try to eat it," Alec confirmed. "Which is why my door is always closed, and I have everything put up as high as I can manage." After a pause, he asked, "May we paint my room something new?"

Looking warily at his son, Dark asked, "Paint it to what extent? It is not so long ago we painted the rainbow in." It had been a few years, sure, but that was nothing in the timeline of a home, at least in his opinion.

Alec smiled in amusement that Dark had asked the question before he'd gotten the promise. "I don't know since I can't see into the future, but, theoretically, I'll be trapped in some college since, for some reason, academia is still highly cultish in that way."

Alec shrugged. "I did say theoretically. I'm still not sure what I'd got to college for, so it might not happen at all. Although, I do see the appeal of being a small business owner. Even if it is super stressful. So, maybe something to do with business?"

"I am sure having a degree in buisness would be helpful if you ran one," Dark agreed, glancing at Alec, "but you do not need to go to the ends of the earth for a buisness degree."

Alec shrugged. "Never said I wanted to. It doesn't sound like you want me too, either. But even if I went to a community college that didn't make me stay on their premises, I'd probably be too busy to think about painting my room, which was the point of this conversation?" he reminded his father gently.

"Being trapped in some college implies you thought about being away," Dark replied, "but the whole reason why I ask about college is only because I do not want to give permission for you to repaint your room and then have it be redone in another year or so because of the time and costs required to do it."
