How Green Becomes Wood

"That would be a big purse," Dark replied, "but I would but be surprised either. But I know she likes to keep tabs, so if she believed I was in a physical altercation and it escaped her knowledge, I almost imagine that would vex her more than the fact I have been so wounded."

"There does seem to be a lot happening at once," Dark agreed, "I'm not surprised Emma is avoiding you all... Becky having a crush on Milo is interesting, though. I presume since you said he is not taking it well it will not go anywhere?"

"If he can ever get up the nerve to tell her no. Otherwise, she's going to keep following him around and giving him candy and coupons and telling him about sales," Xander said dryly.

Xander looked at his father. "Ba, you've met Milo. He's a bundle of anxiety wrapped in a thin sheet of paranoia with a colorful sprinkling of self-doubt. If she'd just walked up to him and talked to him, and especially if she'd asked him out, he'd have said no as an instant reaction, whether or not he was actually interested in her. For once, I think she was actually trying to be smart in getting him used to her presence before jumping into anything serious. Unfortunately for her, he now thinks she's being underhanded and treacherous. I refer you back to my initial description of him."

"It takes balance in everything," Dark replied, "Because he is also too anxious and easily flustered, I would imagine, to ever be the one to ask her out. Had she asked him before he discovered her methods, and therefore before he had time to discover her methods, she may have had a better chance."

"Probably, but he figured it out too fast. Eh. It never would have worked between them, anyway. It would have been interesting to watch for five minutes, but it never would have worked," Xander shrugged.
