How Green Becomes Wood

"Oh, that's a fun one. I feel like it could use a bit more exposition, but it's got the best granny ever," Peter agreed.

"Granny?" Alec asked, curiously. "There's a granny?"

"Anything's fine with me," Xander said with a shrug. He found a good spot on the floor and flopped down to sit and watch.

Alec made a face. "Are grannies even a trope? I was curious because I don't remember the last time I saw a granny in an animated movie. I probably have, but I can't remember."

"Yep. Not bad," Xander assured him.

"He usually sits on the floor," Alec told him. "When di wolves eat a grandmother?"

"Little red riding hood," Peter told him.

"Oh. I forgot about that. But-"

Xander shushed him as the movie started.

"Okay," Milo agreed, settling in to his spot.

Although she had planned to not intrude on the party, when Elle heard the start of the film, she couldn't resist sneaking out. She sat in kitchen, so nobody noticed her, but she was who had introduced Milo to these films. They were her absolute favourite and she couldn't resist watching them anytime they were on.

"Hat making looks so cool," Alec whispered, "but why does Sophie believe she's not pretty? She's adorable!"

"Different beauty standard," Xander mumbled. He was just glad the sisters seemed to have a reasonable relationship.

Alec tried not to talk, he really did, but he did have the occassional question that would not wait.

Peter knew the movie well, but other than occasionally answering a question Alec had, he kept quiet. Same with Xander, although he had no answers for Alec at all.

When the movie showed Howl's bedroom, Alec's eyes went wide, and he leaned forward with a quiet, "Oh!"

Xander glanced at him suspiciously.

The ending had both twins absolutely transfixed. Xander had, of course, been trying to play cool and only partially interested, but with the confrontation of the witch and the singing lantern, he was leaned forward and staring intently at the screen. Then there was time to relax, and then came the full climax. Alec ended up down on the floor with Xander, hugging his arm, and both of them had to keep reminding themselves to breathe. With the ending, Alec cheered, and Xander let out a quiet sigh of relief. The family stayed a family!

Milo had seen the movie so many times, he didn't really have a strong reaction to it outside of simple joy he had been able to watch it again. He was glad to have been able to watch it, and this time share it with his friends who hadn't seen it before.

"That was the most beautiful movie I think I have ever seen. And that ending!" Alec gasped, waving his hands.

"It was good," Xander agreed.

"Good thing we didn't start them with Mononoka," Peter said with a grin.
