How Green Becomes Wood

"Or run out of the house if we had them come to our home while he was out," Alec said cheerfully. He let his swing seat untwist with a tiny, "whee!" "Anyway," he continued, "those are a couple of my ideas. One unachievable one, and one torturous one. Xander probably has some better ideas, being more personably like Ba."

"We have time to plan," Daizi said, giving Ivy a slightly bigger push just to hear her laugh, "Mother's Day comes up first, anyway. Ivy-Qadira, you need to think about what you want to do for Baba on Father's day, you don't remember last year's." Then she leaned over to Xander's swing and asked, "Have you thought about it at all? I know it's over two months away."

"That's very true, Ivy-Qadira, you're almost one and a half, it's time you start taking personal responsibility." Daizi playfully chided, "Would either of you like to take a turn pushing her?"

"Ivy, your big brother is going to push you on the swing, isn't that fun?" Daizi asked, stopping Ivy on the swing and kissing her on the head before allowing Xander to take her place.

Alec took Enkidu, and Xander stepped up behind Ivy. He was very ginger in his pushing, and she ended up not going as high as when Daizi pushed her, but he gave it his best.

"You should push me, next," Alec grinned, watching them.

"I'll push you on your face," Xander warned.

Ivy still enjoyed being pushed on the swing, even after Xander took over and it was gentler. Daizi, meanwhile, went to the swing Xander used to be sitting on and started swinging herself, "Would you like to still get ice cream after this?"

"I want a turn pushing her!" Alec declared.

"Fine, fine," Xander grumbled, stepping away so Alec could take his place.

Alec was a bit more forceful than Daizi in his pushing, and he eventually moved to the front to make faces at Ivy as she approached him.

Alec making faces at her as she swung nearer to him made Ivy laugh and shriek so loudly she nearly tipped over in the seat. After five minutes had gone by, Daizi warned Ivy she only had five minutes left, and afterwards she told Ivy she could have two more trips down the slide, and then it was time to go.

Since she was having such fun, leaving the park still did cause Ivy to cry, especially since she didn't quite understand the time warnings yet, but by giving them, hopefully one day it would help her prepare for when it was time to leave.

"That was quite the park trip," Alec remarked. "Oh, one problem: Unless there's an ice cream place close enough to walk to, I hope there's some at home in the freezer."

"I think there's one we can get to," Daizi said, putting Ivy into her stroller, "The walk home might be long, but we could probably get your father to pick us up, or see if Peter's taxi service takes dogs?"
