How Green Becomes Wood

"Oh, Moana was so pretty! And great music, too," Alec grinned.

Xander cut in as Alec started to sing the notes for "I am Moana!" "Mulan. And Sleeping Beauty."

"Really?" Alec asked, moderately surprised.

"The dragon fight at the end. Maleficent was friggin' epic, too. Needed more practical effects, but otherwise cool."

"I like Atlantis," Milo said, "but I always found it embarrassing because the main character is also Milo, so I'd never tell people I liked it, because when I did, they'd always ask if I liked it just because I had the same name as him."

"You do? Then how come when the first time I met you and called you 'Thatch,' you acted like you had no idea what I was talking about?" Xander frowned.

"Probably for exactly that reason," Alec cackled.

"You know more about it than I do," Milo commented, "but I like Kida's character design a lot. I liked the blue paint, and darker skin with white hair always looks cool. That's why Storm looks cool, too. But I guess white hair is just cool overall, because Danny Phantom is also cool."

"No that's Ben10. Danny Phantom had parents who were ghost hunters or something, and he fell into a portal and became half ghost. He had black hair as a human and then when he went ghost his hair went white."

"Wait, you do?" Alec asked, shocked. That was news to him!

Xander shrugged, eyes on the road as the windshield wipers fought the rain. "Well, you know, it's a thing to write down for the school. It's a pretty awesome job, but not actually one I want."

"Not if you eat them when you catch them," Xander said bluntly.

"Catch and release is pretty awful," Alec agreed, "but we're getting off the subject. Why would you put Alaskan fisherman if you don't want to do it?"

Xander shrugged. "It sounds good."

"Well, you know, it'll give the teachers something interesting to read other than, 'probably some minimum wage job,'" Xander said. "I'm kind of hoping that maybe my Uncle Cooger will keep me on and eventually let me be a partner, because otherwise, I'll probably end up in construction, too. Maybe I'll learn to drive one of those big backhoe things or a forklift. That could be cool."

"Well, you know," Xander repeated, suddenly feeling guilty and confused as to why, "it's the most likely scenario for something real. I don't really have... dreams. Not really."

Alec leaned forward, tugging on his seat belt a little. "Really? No dreams?"

"None that'd come true," Xander said stoutly.

"I dunno. I don't think that'd work," Xander said, shaking his head.

"Why not?" Alec asked.

"I don't know that there's a lot of, you know, openings in stuff like that," Xander said a touch uncomfortably.

"It'd be easy enough for you to find out," Alec pointed out. "You're already in the horse world."

"Just a small part of it, mostly cleaning stalls," Xander grumbled.
