How Green Becomes Wood

"This is the most philosophical he has ever been," Dark told Alec, "Stubbornness is part of it, but sometimes curiosity is treated as immaturity." He might have said more, but then Ivy began fussing over the baby monitor.

"Huh," Xander said. After a few minutes, he said, "Huh," again. "I wonder how much of creativity is insanity? Or maybe there isn't any difference."

"Do you want me to go get Ivy, or keep an eye on Mr. Aristotal here?" Alec asked with a grin.

"I think creativity and insanity are entirely separate," Dark replied, and meant it. For a long time he had resisted psychiatric treatments for fear of losing his creativity, but it turned out, actually treating his mental illnesses meant he had the energy to work on his projects and his ability to create only improved. Then he looked to Alec, "I can get her, unless you really want to."

"Hmm. Maybe," Xander said, looking unconvinced. "In-eative. Cranity. In-cre-vanity."

"I'll stay here and keep notes on what he comes up with next," Alec grinned, preparing his phone for recording.

"We should be glad he cannot run away," Dark teased, and left the room to fetch his toddler, who was growing progressively more annoyed at still being in her crib. Once he had her, he checked to see if she needed a diaper change before bringing her back downstairs, warning her as he went that Xander was sick, a little silly, and that she had to be careful not to touch his big black boot because it was a big owie.

By the time Dark came down, Alec had coaxed Xander into talking about something other than combining words. He had his phone up and was recording their discussion on "If everyone cheats on a test, is it still cheating?"

Xander pondered this question, tugging and petting his chin since he didn't have a beard. "The main question is, the main question... is... what is this test on? Is it on how good the students are at cheating? Then that means that if they don't cheat, then that would be cheating, right? Right. But maybe... maybe if every single student managed to cheat, then maybe it's not the students that are cheating."

"It does not matter how many students are cheating," Dark answered for them coming into the room, "If they are engaging in academic dishonesty, they are cheating. An entire classroom cheating on exam is only an entire classroom cheating on an exam."
