How Green Becomes Wood

"It's very simple," Alec assured him. "Each person draws a line. I suppose we should put some sort of limit on the length of the line, but I'm not sure how to do that. Anyway, each person draws a line-"

"Literal line that's straight?" Xander asked.

"Layperson's line which is allowed to be squiggly," Alec replied. "ANYWAY! Each person draws a line in any shape they desire of a reasonable length, connecting each line to the previous person's line, and we see if we can't create some kind of image without discussing anything."

Alec put a hand on Dark's arm and gave him a serious look. "I believe in you. You can do anything!"

Xander rolled his eyes and took it upon himself to get things started with a lopsided but smooth figure eight. He handed it to Alec. "Good luck."

Alec frowned at it and made a triangle with the tip touching the center of the eight.

Dark stared at this for awhile, trying to figure out what he should add. Then, giving into his baser instincts, he added an inverted pentacle directly atop the triangle. It was a little awkward, since he had to draw the circle around the star in a single line, but its shape was still clear.

Xander snorted when he saw it. "Really, Ba? If we keep this up, we're going to end up summoning something, and then Mama's going to want us to keep it." He decided to draw a curly spiral around the top of the pentacle like it was a crop of curly hair. Or one really long hair, like Charlie Brown never cut his hair.

"Depends on which way you hold the picture," Xander pointed out.

Alec puzzled over the bizzare shape they had, turning it this way and that. "I don't think this is turning into anything." He tried giving the eight a single ear.

"That is true," Dark agreed, "but I imagine Daizi would say what matters is the direction I drew it in." Then he took back the paper, struggling to figure out what to do with it. Finally, he drew a hoop earring on the ear and said, "This game is more difficult than the last."

"It's hard to know what to do with a circled star, whatever direction it's facing," Alec teased.

Xander drew another ear on the other side, though this ear did not match Alec's ear. "It's like designing mild madness."
