How Green Becomes Wood

"Suit yourself," Daizi shrugged easily with no intention to force him as she picked up her cane.

"The problem with face painting is it is so expensive for something so temporary," Dark said, nonetheless bringing his family that way.

"But the joy it brings is priceless!" Alec said cheerfully, picking up the pot and the second large item, trying and failing to be inconspicuous. "Plus, we're supporting local artists. Maybe even students supporting themselves while getting a higher education. So, if you think of it that way, you're helping to pay for education!"

"Some things we picked up while out shopping," Alec told her. "Xander found something really, really cool that I didn't know was a thing."

"A caligraphy set," Xander said, picking up where Alec left off. "The pens are reeds. It's cool."

"I will make sure that we do," Dark promised, leaning them the rest of the way to the face painter. In addition to all the usual face painting designs, they had a few which were related to the festival. They couldn't do actual country flags, since so many of them are detailed, but there were a few stencils in cheerful Arabic words.

Xander found a nice spot to sit out of the way with the shopping goods and watched while Alec bit his knuckles and agonized over what to pick. He explained the different choices to Daizi and asked her opinion for him and her. Ivy, he suggested get a bird or a flower.
