How Green Becomes Wood

After a second break down, Daizi finally managed to get Ivy regulated again, and worn out but victorious, she returned to the kitchen. In her arms was a now very-cuddly toddler, "We'll have to figure out what to do about that cabinet now. And probably the rest of them."

"Okay," Alec said, puzzled by the tension in Daizi's voice. He didn't know that Xander had already offered to look after her already, and he didn't know why Daizi wanted him to interrupt Dark's quiet time, which was unusual. Still, he turned and headed out the back, whistling merrily as he went.

Xander shrugged and hobbled back out. He didn't feel like he was being helpful, so he figured he'd head out before he got underfoot.

"Thank you," Daizi said, waiting until she heard the footsteps vanish before she let out a sigh. Adjusting how she held Ivy on her hip, she carefully felt around in the kitchen to guess at which step Xander had left off at before doing her best to resume cooking one-handed.

Dark, meanwhile, was inside his shed, holding a long paintbrush with few bristles, with a small figure in his hand, and his frankly ridiculous loupe glasses on.

"The Fiji mermaid," Dark repeated carefully, sticking the bristles of the brush in his mouth despite the taste just to make them into an even finer point, "She was sewn from a monkey and a fish, but this one will be true."

"It was the most amazing hour and a half of my entire life!" Alec sighed happily, sinking into the stool next to Dark. He smiled blissfully and squiggled excitedly. "We're going out again next weekend! A lunch date in the park." He frowned. "I came out here for a reason. What was it?"

Flipping the magnifying lense of his ridiculous glasses up, Dark turned to look kindly on his son, "I am very happy for you, and I hope you enjoy next Saturday. Do you need me to drive you?" Then, after a moment he said, "I have no idea why you came out here, as I have been here."

Alec grinned. "Your glasses are great. It would be awesome if you could give me a ride! If you're available and it won't inconvenience you too much." He frowned, tapping the table lightly. "It was something about dinner, I think. That, or your banishment."
