"She thinks she is being ignored," Dark said, kissing Daizi while still holding Ivy's hands to stop her from preventing it again. This clearly frustrated their daughter, but they were not going to allow her to be tsar of their relationship.

"It seems so," Daizi sighed, "I birthed my greatest enemy."

Alec wondered if it was a case of feeling ignored, or that thing children did when they saw someone else playing with a toy that they hadn't touched in ages, but suddenly that toy was incredibly important. From his perspective, it looked like the latter, but he wasn't the one reading parenting books, so he kept his thoughts to himself.

Xander grunted. "Careful then, Mama, not to turn your back on her."

"Your father is who should watch is back, she wants my attention," Daizi chuckled, kissing Ivy's forehead, "I think it's just because she doesn't see me as much as she used to."

Xander shrugged. "Could be. Who really knows the inner workings of the mind?" He sniffed and wandered toward the kitchen. "What's for food?"

"Dinner should be ready," Dark said, going back to the kitchen after finally getting to greet his wife, "Will you set the table?"

"I will!" Alec chirped. He hurried into the kitchen with Xander on his heels. They both set the table, arguing about fork placement as they did so.

Once they all came to eat, Daizi said, "My coworker was telling me there's two lion cubs who just went on display at the zoo. I was thinking we could go."

"Ooooo, zoo date! Family zoo date! I love it," Alec declared.

"I like our zoo," Daizi said, "They have a lot of tactile displays, and the free-flight aviary. It's much more fun for me than the aquarium."

"Would you like to see the animals, Ivy?" Dark asked.

"Lion cubs would be cute to see," Xander agreed. "And I bet Ivy will enjoy touching things with you."

"We shall touch all the things! That are allowed to be touched," Alec amended.

"I like the primates," Dark said, "I do really enjoy watching the gorillas. I need to remember to bring my sketchbook."

"Gorillas are a good choice," Xander approved. "Do they have penguins?"

"When are we going?" Alec asked.

"Whenever works in your schedule," Daizi told Alec, "You're the only one who works on the weekends."

 

[BookKnight]

"How about as soon as I get off?" Alec suggested. "If the whole family came to pick me up, then we could go straight to the zoo."
