How Green Becomes Wood

"To my recollection, it is fleshy and looked almost damp," Dark said frowning, reaching out to help guide Daizi before realizing she was the only one not impacted by the darker conditions in here, "It looks very much like an internal organ."

"Ivy," Daizi asked, "Would you like to go into your stroller?"

"No," Ivy said, instead reaching up to hold the hand of whoever was nearest.

"Ew," the twins said in unison, wrinkling their noses.

Xander was the closest, but Alec quickly stepped forward and took Ivy's hand. "Let's go see the kangaroos and wallabies!" he told her cheerfully. "I wonder if they have any anteaters or those spiny echidna things."

"Are anteaters Australian?" Daizi asked curiously, "For some reason I thought they were from South America. Where are aardvarks from?"

"I have no idea, do not ask me," Dark replied, leading them onto a walkway where, below them, they could see a wombat waddling around.

Alec lifted Ivy up so she could see the wombat more easily. "That's a wombat! What a funny-looking little creature."

Xander took a moment to appreciate the wombat, and then he took out his phone, searching quickly. "Aardvarks are African," he reported. "They live south of the Sahara." Another quick search. "The echidna, otherwise known as the spiny anteater, is native to Australia. There are several different types of other anteaters... but I think they are mostly found in the South American region? And Southern Mexico. Looks like there are some cool different species." He pocketed his phone again.

"That's curious to know," Alec said. "At least Australia gets one type!" He wandered over to read the signs about the wombats and pointed at the pictures for Ivy.

"I had thought aadvarks where African, but suddenly I wasn't sure," Daizi said, frowning, "Them being sub-Saharan makes sense. I'm from Africa, but if the wildlife doesn't live in Egypt, I don't know it."

"In a hospital I had a stay at, they almost exclusively had Arthur playing on the television," Dark commented, "I am not sure if I hate aardvarks or if I love them after that. I think I must love them, because I intend to let Ivy watch it."

The twins shook their heads. "No clue at all," they admitted.

"Oh! Check out the wallabies!" Alec said. He pointed Ivy in the right direction. "That one's nibbling. Wow, it has to fold itself in half to eat."

"All of you, no," Dark said, "but Ivy, maybe."

Ivy looked briefly at him when he said her name, but then turned her attention back towards the wallabies, giggling at the way they moved and still holding securely to Alec's hand.
