Into the Rat King's Realm​

Within the vast network of randomly interconnected dimensions, the sudden appearance of rifts is commonplace. Portals have been known to open up in basements, forests, parks, and more. There have even been documented cases of rifts appearing at the bottom of coffee mugs, draining away the coffee as it's poured. However, any particular universe might go millennia without seeing a rift open, and so everyone was surprised when one suddenly appeared inside of an old wardrobe. The portal, however, wasn't nearly as surprising as what came out of it.

Thousands of rats poured from the portal, scurrying throughout the house and devouring everything they could get their teeth on. When met by the residents of the house, they swarmed over them, overwhelming them with their numbers and snatching their young daughter Clara. Moments later, they all rushed back in through the portal, dragging their captive into the swirling rift through a remarkable display of coordination and teamwork. The distraught family immediately put out an advertisement for anyone brave enough to venture into the portal and retrieve their child with all expedience, as every moment she's in there increases the chances that she'll be chewed apart by scores of nibbling rodents. Worse yet, the portal could close, trapping her in with them forever. The reward is generous and the stakes are high, so venture forth, brave traveler! Dive into the realm of the rat king and retrieve the poor child before she's reduced to a pile of gnawed bones.
