I'm not sure why it has taken so long for this site to pop up in my searches for writing forums, but I'm really happy it finally did. I've been looking for somewhere to stretch my writing skills and put my creativity to the test. So hello! I hope you'll be as glad I found you as I am.

A little about me. I'm a middle aged woman, happily married with six mostly-grown children. I've been writing since I was a young teenager and roleplaying off and on since 2006. I've self-published four books on Amazon and I hope to do more in the future. I love stories involving magic, paranormal activity, psychics, and of course love. Sci-fi is fun but I'll admit it's a weak point for me.

My writing level is skilled to advanced. I write in third person, past tense, and my post lengths can vary from a few hundred to over a thousand, depending on my Muse and what my partner gives me. When collaborating, I feed off my partner and try my best to give as good as I get.

I would also enjoy getting involved in tabletop games. I've played a few sessions of D&D with my kids (my son was our DM and it was fantastic) but they never went far enough for me to really learn the game. If I could get involved in something like that, too, it would be the icing on the cake.

Other than that, I'm just hoping to make some friends and have some fun!

Welcome to our corner! We are delighted to have you here!

Be sure to check out our rules and the account approval guide in the help forum so that you can get approved ASAP!

That's really cool that you've self-published books and that you have played D&D with your family. Sounds like you'll fit right in!

Greetings Shelzi,

Welcome to Storyteller's Circle! I'm happy that this place has finally popped up on your searches! Not too surprising these days, we're a bit on the down low here, away from our (going by count and not peace or happiness mind you :p) halcyon days of hundreds of registrations a week before Discord solidified the hobby from 'The Forum' to 'The Server'. Not that the paucity of new faces should discourage you too much, you can be sure that everyone who you can write with on here at least joined us and proved they were seeking the same before their accounts could be allowed to do so. In that vein, I am happy to announce that I have reviewed your account and activity and you're now fully approved for access to all roleplay areas.

Thank you for sharing more about you! It's pretty cool that you got your works out there in the world one way or another, and I also hope for more and much success for you! It's a bit of easy empathy for me throw out, given how I'm coddling a few baby projects of my own that I'm not sure (but hope) I will be brave enough to see thrown out there eventually.

There's certainly a few writers around that I can confidently say (though a few may disagree, myself most of all) fall within your preferred skill level and who are able to give you plenty of material to work with, both in the tense sub-hundred liner realm of intense dialogue and the thousand plus word-pictures that frame those moments! If you can't find them or they can't find you, I'm always happy to play literary matchmaker.

Gasp. No one told you the secret? Pure Science Fiction—or Hard Science Fiction as it's also commonly termed—is both a phenomenon that was/is having a resurgence, and also only one expression of the genre. Much like the magic in many Fantasy narratives is but a backdrop to the resolution/unfolding of the human condition within extraordinary contexts, so can be the case for Sci-Fi.

Andy Weir's The Martian is a great piece leaning towards science realism certainly, but by the same token, Frank Herbert's Dune is one of the genre's most eponymous examples, and uh, I don't want to give too many spoilers, but things get weird in some fantastical ways there, if you catch my drift.

Magic* (What is ESP/Psychic expression but a rose by another name?), the paranormal, and of course, love, for example, are all things that will (hopefully) feature on the Sci-Fi longform project I'm currently working on. The audience may quibble perhaps (there's spaceships though, and that's usually an easy one to settle the debate) but my tale is Sci-Fi because I [made the sassy yet ancient alien scientist] say so, and that's that.

You may be able to tell, that I don't like genre gatekeeping...well, writers are the worst ones at doing it to themselves, and I bet you could write an amazing sci-fi tale; it's just humanity with a bit of what you imagine will come later, ultimately.

I'm with you on the D&D myself! I got books, dice, and only a handful of sessions under my belt, much to my chagrin. There's some folks I know around here who sometimes host games, so those connections are around, but I dunno how one tricks a DM into entertaining you, but I suspect the part where I was told to try it was one of those tricks...

We'll see about that icing haha. Well, I've palavered enough at you for what should be a brief introduction, but I will add that I also hope you make some friends and have fun! Don't hesitate to reach out or ask if you need any help around the place and once again, welcome to Storyteller's Circle!

Hello and welcome! I like a lot of the same genres you listed, so I'd bet I'll see you around at some point writing-wise. If you need help getting into things, just speak up - people here are friendly and good about helping out. If you're on discord, the server's a fun place to hang out, and if you're not, I'm sure I'll catch you around!

Incidentally, I saw you liked fantasy, there's this RP just collecting RPers and getting started, if that's something that interests you. Seems like it's going to be a high fantasy adventure, a bit like DND without the stats/dice. Might be worth checking out!

I was just checking that out! I'll work up a character and apply. It sounds like a lot of fun.

I'm a tad late for the welcome too :']

However, better late than never, welcome to the Circle! I hope you find something you like around these parts, we have a lot of awesome writers here, you already met a couple of 'em by now!

I hope to see you around sometime!
