Land Down Under (KJDarKnight & Treasure)

"I just said don't argue. Won't do you a lick of good" she still insisted. "Consider it a thank you for everything if that helps"

Gray smiled and raised his hands in defeat. "Very well. I accept. I need to go to work now. Make yourself at home and rest." He went back out, closing the door securely behind himself. He went up to his shack and settled down to work, but he switched on a small device at his right. If anything came or went from his house, he'd be alerted.

( goong to hop back to Misty and Badru then..unless there was something else you wanted to do)

Misty and Badru had been at it for awhile. On her part, she had found the afternoon productive and actually quite fun both learning and teaching. After awhile though. It was high time for a break and just in time as she checked the clock. She wanted to go see Gray. Some of her equipment had broken with all the chaos and she hoped he might be able to fix it. She set the notebook aside. She had been writing everything to help her remember what she learned.

"Come...we go...see friend" she managed without looking at the notebook

"Friend?" Badru repeated as he stood to follow her. "I will come." It felt silly to say so much when it was unnecessary, but she needed to learn words, so he'd have to treat her like a child just learning to speak.

She smiled, happy to hear him talking. Already communicating was getting easier. Moving to the door she picked up her bag first and pulled it over her good shoulder before leading the way out.

They didn't get too far before a young man waved "Misty!" He called, his eyes flicking to the giant "who's you're friend?" He asked a little nervously "oh..this is Badru" she answered

"Uh so..rumors are true. You brought home a pet"

Misty glared at him "he's not a pet he's a friend" she snapped back at him, surprised at her own protectiveness over him and how bold she was being.

The young man looked rather taken aback, not used to Misty speaking like that, normally so soft spoken and submissive. "Wow ok calm down..didn't mean anything by it.

"Yes well..." there it was, Misty fumbled "I got somewhere to be so..mayne I'll catch you later" she went on quicky.

"Yeah ok...glad your're back...talk later..." the young man was a bit perplexed

Badru listened to the exchange, and while he knew a few words, he did not understand. All he knew was Little Water Droplet suddenly stiffened in anger, flushed, and was now hurrying away from the strange man. If this was the friend she'd mentioned earlier, he hoped it was not a good friend. He got between her and the stranger as she hurried forward, giving the man a cold stare. He had no idea what this situation was about, but if she was uncomfortable, then he did not like it.

The man backed off a bit "jeeze..what the hell" he muttered after them.

Misty was quick to get to Grays work, not knowing where the entrance to his house was. She knocked lightly and waited

It took Gray a moment to open the door as he'd been right in the middle of receiving a signal. He swung open the door and smiled when he saw Misty with Badru hanging precariously onto the ladder below her. He backed inside, waving for her to come inside. It was going to be a tight fit for Badru, but he thought the giant might be able to make it.

Misty had a time of it getting up one handed. She haf to use her bad arm to hold thr bar so she could grab the next. She managed though, never complaining about anything.

She came in and stepped aside for Badru "sorry to bother you at work...was hoping you could help me with my equipment. Some of it got broken"

Badru watched her in case she fell, but she was safe. He followed her up and stopped with his head and shoulders over the threshold. He stopped and looked around the room. Hmm... nope. He wasn't even going to try. But he did not want to leave her alone with Shadow Man, so he made himself comfortable on the ladder and watched.

Gray nodded. "That is alright. I certainly cannot refuse you after you climbed up the ladder with only one hand. Where is said equitment?"

"Goong to be like this awhile may as well get use to it" she said as she srugged the bag off her shoulder and handed it over to him. She hoped it could be saved.

Below Pepper stepped outside to stretch her legs a little, she had slept a lot of the day away. Surprising how much on3 could sleep when so emotionally drained

Gray took the radio and looked it over before setting it on his bench. He pulled up his chair and indicated the empty on to Misty before turning his gaze back to the gizmos on his bench. Hmm, salvageable, but it would take a bit of work.

Badru heard a door open below and frowned. Door? He hadn't seen any buildings in the immediate vicinity. "Going down," he told Misty abruptly before scaling down the ladder. With the door left open, he'd hear if any funny business happened, and he needed to know where the danger was below them.

Misty took the offered seat, glad for a bit of a break. Not as much energy yet as before. She glanced over, guessing Badru didn't fancy just hanging on a ladder the whole time.

Pepper heard him and looked up, a bit surprised to see the giant she had seen briefly before. "Oh..hello" she said, sure he didn't understand though

Gray poked and prodded and tested the machine a bit. He finally turned to Misty and signed, "There is hope! I think I can bring it back to life, but it may take me a day."

~~

Badru stood with arms crossed as he stared down at the woman. While more muscular and solid-looking than the Little Water Droplet woman, she was still much smaller than him. She did not seem to be a threat despite the fact that he could not figure out where she'd come from. On the contrary, she looked as if she'd been dragged through a fight. He hoped she'd given as good as she got. When she greeted him, he dipped his head in acknowledgement before looking again for the door.

Misty smiled "oh good..radios are getting harder and harder to come by...this one is a little sentimental now too...I..might of given up if not for your encouraging messages" she admitted to him

--

Pepper smirked a little "looking for the door huh? Don't think Gray would like it much if I showed you" she leaned against one of the stilts. She didn't seem scared of him more..intrigued

Gray smiled and her and patted her arm. "You did very well up there. I will do what I can to fix it. However, if things do not change, soon there will be nothing left." He sighed silently. "If only the authorities would allow more exploration and excavation."

~~

Badru's eyes dropped back to her, his gaze intense as he listed to the words. She seemed to know what he was looking for but had no inclination to show him, judging by her body language. That was fair. He was a stranger and she was weakened by her wounds. Why would she show him? That would be foolish.

Misty sighed "they may be forced into that before long....all we can do is be ready when it happens.."

--

Pepper shook her head a bit "you're a quiet one aren't you.." she trailed off though when she saw Allen walking up with Peter. What time was it? Had school gotten out already?

Gray smiled. "I think some will enjoy it. Others will be unmoved. And some will fight." He checked his clock and frowned. "Do you know when school is let out?"

~~

Badru turned to see what she was looking at. What was making her so tense? Was that boy not hers?

Misty shook her head "I'm not sure..never pay attention I don't have kids...why?" She didn't realize Pepper and Peter were staying with him or why.

Peter let go of Allens hand "mamma!" He ran to Pepper and hugged her. She stroked his hair "go upstairs to Gray honey" she saif softly to him but her eyes stayed on Allen as he walked up. He seemed quite pleased. A look of "you can run but you can't hide" playing across that smug face.

Peter hesitated but nodded, going up the ladder "gray I'm back from school! He called up as he went

Gray sighed. "I promised Pepper I would walk Peter home from school today as she couldn't." He started to move toward the door then stopped when he heard Peter. Peter was already here? That was good... right? He waited for the boy, worry tickling his mind.

Badru moved aside but did not fully separate himself from the woman - what was her name? Some kind of food, he thought - as tension visibly spilled from her shoulders. Something about this man brought her fear, and the man seemed strangely smug. He carried no weapons, yet he acted like a man holding an arrow to his prey's vulnerable spot. What was going on here?
