Land Down Under (KJDarKnight & Treasure)

Between the two of them they managed to get the body shoved into the opposite corner. Misty was panting heavily by then. Her face pale and beadong with sweat from the effort and the pain she was in .

The top dwellers watched her a moment, hesitated then followed after her, seemed they had a plan of escape

"Sit down, Misty," Jonah rasped. "Go on before you fall down."

"I got everything!" Lynn called. "They didn't even touch any of our stuff."

Misty nodded and sank to the floor, holding her opposite shoulder.

"They probably don't know what to do with it" Mathias spoke up, barely conciouse, his breathing a bit shallow. He felt useless but could hardly be helped. Move too much and it could kill him if that rib sank more into his lungs.

The three top dwellers who had followed her ducked into their cage. Slightly smaller and skin more pale.

"Mathias!" The youngest of the three. A young boy, hurried over to him. Mathias had said he was working on creating a trade alliance with this other clan.

"Hey kid" Mathias smiled. The boy had thick wiry hair and pale eyes, sharp teeth and claws and they were wearing clothes made of animal skins and course woven cloth

Lynna turned to greet the top dwellers then froze, her mouth opening slightly at the last person to enter. Instinctively, she moved closer to Misty.

The fourth top dweller came in last, his dark eyes wary and distrustful as he looked around at the others. He said nothing, rain dripping down his ebony skin and his tangled black hair that hung to his shoulders. Silvery cars covered his muscled torso, and he stood nearly as tall as their captors and perhaps a little wider. This man... he wore no skulls and bones, only a ragged pair of what looked like animal hide trousars, but he was a beast!

"So, how are we looking on an escape plan?" Jonah grunted, sitting next to Matthias. "It's pouring rain, we have one man who can't hardly move, and two more that aren't much help."

Lynna snapped herself back to the presence and forced her eyes away from the chest- er, man - in the corner. "If we can put together some kind of skid, Mathias can lay on it, and we can drag him to shelter." She looked at the other top dwellers. "There is shelter near here, right?"

Misty could not help but to stare at the huge man, never having seen anything like him. She felt like he could easily crush her, she felt so much smaller. Jonahs words brought her attention back to the plan.

The boy nodded "yes. Shelter close" it was clear that english was not his usual language. The words forced but clear and he seemed to understand fine. "But they see us we dead. So fast and strong" he held open his hands "no spear" nothing to fight back with.

"So we go before they come out" Misty said "ate they sleeping now?"

The boy nodded Yes..maybe if hurry..." he looked over at the other two top dwellers to see what they thought.

The third was a woman who looked similar to the boy "not.much time" she agreed, struggling a bit more with the words

"Okay," Lynna said, nodding slowly. "Okay... You, um, boy, you stay with Mathias. You," she pointed to the third dweller, "come. Help me. Misty, Jonah, you keep watch and try to get some of these coats down so we can have some protection. I'm going to make a skid. Work fast!"

She ran back out to their pile. There wasn't much left, but she was able to rip the straps from the bags and use the knife to cut strips. The poles were easy. There were a few spears nearby, and she grabbed three of them, bringing everything back in and starting on a rudimentary stretcher they could drag behind them. The big guy would come in handy with that.

"Jonah, can you give me a hand?" She used her one good hand to pull bandages from her pack to patch up her shoulder as well as a sling. Her left arm entirely useless at this point having broken it worse fighting that top dweller then of course he had landed on that shoulder when he died.

The female hurried out to help her make up the stretcher, glancing nervously at the stone structures. All was quiet. They didn't seem concerned they might escape

"I can try," Jonah said. He moved around to face Misty and helped her tie up her damaged arm and shoulder. His hands were clumsy, his arm limited in motion, but he did his best. It was not a pretty result, but it did the job.

With the female's help, Lynna soon had the stretcher finished. "Okay!" she gasped. "Um, we need the big fellow there to help us get Mathias onto the stretcher, and then he can pull while we run." She hesitated then looked at the little boy. 'Can you translate that for me?"

He nodded and looked up at the big guy and spoke in a strange language. Similar sounds to English and some words sounding almost the same. Probably rooted in English but changed over generations. "Can you drag him on the stretcher? You are the strongest"

After Jonah got her bandaged she managed to get her jacket on to help protect against the storm. She kept the smaller bag that had the radio and medical supplies but she couldn't carry everything with a bad shoulder now.

While they communicated with the big guy she tapped into the radio "Misty to desolation. Do not respond" she tapped first not wanting the noise to alert the top dwellers "escaping into woods. Will contact when safe. Wish us luck" she hoped that would give Gray and others some hope

The giant stood silent for a moment then gave a single nod. He walked over to Mathias and looked him over for a second before slowly sliding his arms under Mathias. Carefully, so very carefully, he lifted Mathias, balancing him carefully without putting any pressure on the damaged ribs. He lifted Mathias like a child and moved easily to lay him down on the stretcher.

"That was easy," Lynna muttered. When the big guy moved to the front, she handed him the harness she'd put together and helped him strap it on. That would free up his arms while holding the stretcher up at a slight angle. It was a bit like a horse hitched to a wagon.

Down in Desolation, Gray scrambled for the headset. His finger hovered over the reply, but he forced it away. Any noise could give them away. He dared not reply even if she hadn't specifically told him. It was hard to fight against habit. Good luck, he thought. Very good luck.

The boy used a couple of the blankets from their packs to gently as he could tie Mathias on so he wouldn't he knocked off or slide off the end.

Misty looked over at Jonah "are you going to be able to run ok?" She was worried about him. Tearing the stitches open again

"I'd rather die running than sit here and get eaten," Jonah said flatly.

"Okay, everyone ready? Right, let's go!" Lynna called, waving for them to head out. "Come on, we have to hurry." She checked the gun as she hurried out the cage. The stone huts were still quiet. No one worried about them.

Misty sighed and followed the others out. She just prayed they would get out in time. She didn't fancy trying to fight one of those again. If it hadn't of been for Lynna she would be dead. Literally eaten alive. The thought made her shudder. More scared of that then the storm they were running into..

The kid and the woman both grabbed up spears and followed. The kid running ahead to leaf the way to a shelter he knew about.

The big fellow started forward, moving slowly and picking up speed to not jolt Mathias too badly. He chugged along steadily, his eyes cold and fixed on a spot somewhere in the distance.

Lynna followed the boy, glancing at her group. All together, all alive. She spent a moment wishing she could plant a bomb in this village then glanced at the big guy. What had he gone through? Never mind. Didn't matter unless they got away.

As they headed towards the gates it was evident they had been broken down and never repairs just wood haphazardly tossed in the opening but there was a small gap they could slip through. Again. No guards on duty. The clan was asleep and unaware their meal was running away.

The woman took up the rear covering their tracks as they headed into the woods. The wind and rain was helping with that too.

The wind was cut by the thick tree's but still at times threatened to push them over and each drop of rain that hit their skin felt more like small hail. Some felt like they might cut the skin but never did

Eventually though the boy lead them to a small cave low on a cliff face. They would have to climb up a little ways but doable.

The boy scurried up first then held a hand down to Lynna to help her up

Lynna's teeth chattered so hard she could barely see straight. She reached up with numb hands and accepted his help up, all but collapsing in the shelter of the cave. She couldn't move for a full five seconds, her body in shock. Concern for the others finally drove her up, and she looked down.
To her surprise, the big guy had already "unharnessed" himself and was literally lifting the woman up into the cave whether she wanted it or not. Misty came next, then Jonah, and Mathias was last. Lynna did not understand his words, but the man curtly told the boy to help steady the stretcher as he lifted it up and started sliding Mathias into the cave. She scrambled to help, surprised at his show of strength and efficiency.

The boy wasn't quite as strong but still managed to keep Mathias steady as he helped him into the cave. Looked like he had passed out at some point, probably from the pain of being moved. He didn't look so good but was breathing.

Misty settled in a corner out of the way. Pulling out the radio again even with numb fingers she wanted to get word back to Gray knowing how anxious he would be to hear back again. She pulled on the headphones and began to tap "Misty to desolation. Made it to shelter" she reported then tried to rub feeling into her hands while she waited for a response

Lynna checked everyone over. It didn't look like anyone was hurt anymore than they were already. Mathias was still alive, but breathing, so that gave her hope. Misty and the big guy had each found a corner, and everyone else just looked dead on their feet. Maybe she could try to get a fire started? It was too rainy for the smoke to give them away. She started hunting around for anything to burn.

It took a couple of minutes for Gray to get back to her. He was waiting just in case it wasn't safe. "Desolation here. Misty, how is everyone? Are you safe?"

"We're safe. Wet and cold but safe" she reported "lost Scott I think. Mathias has punctured lung, Jonah's side is injured. Nothing broken. My left shoulder broken" she gave a quick run down of their current state. "When Mathias is awake we will pinpoint our location on his map and send you the information"
