Land Down Under (KJDarKnight & Treasure)

"I keep watch you rest" Quefo offered her "be safe here they not go in rain. Too scare of loud noise" he pointed to the sky. Likely meant thunder.

(Gonna go ahead and skip cause bored lol)

The night passed fairly uneventful. The fire kept them warm and the cave kept them safe. Morning came but the storm still made it fairly dark but there was a notable difference. No doubt it was daytime.

Mathias was able to get their approximate location. He wasn't doing too good. Struggling more and more to breath. He kept cpighing up blood but Misty seemed hopeful. It was a slow bleed as long as he didn't move and they got him back as soon as the storm was over he would make it. That's what she said anyway.

Misty also more properly bandaged Jonah, getting disinfectant on his and her own wound though she had to get Lynna's help with that. It already looked infected. She needed antibiotics that they didn't have. Her arms were pretty badly bruised as well as her ankle but little to do about that

Now all they could do was ration what little food they had and wait

"Well Lynna...think you'll ever come back to the surface after this?" Mathias asked before coughing into a strip of cloth Misty had provided for him. He couldn't help the soft groan. Everything hurt but there were only a few pain pills to go around to take the edge off and Mathias refused to take all of them.

Jonah and Misty were in pain too. He could see that.

"Sure, but only if you're the one leading!" Lynna said with a grin. "And I think I'd rather skip the whole getting captured and almost eaten part. It's not exactly my scene."

Jonah barely moved from his spot, eyes closed as he rested. Lynna handed him his allotment of pills, and he accepted them. While Lynna spoke with Mathias, Jonah quietly slipped the pills back into the bottle and pretended to take them. He didn't need the pills. Okay, they would be really nice, but as long as he didn't move, the pain was so steady as to become nothing more than background noise. Misty and especially Mathias needed them more, not that stubborn Mathias would accept that.

"I don't think I'll be coming back. Maybe I'll set up a fishing hut down underground and sell to Top Dwellers," Jonah rasped. The fish underground were nothing like the ones on the top, but they were plentiful if you knew where to look.

Mathias smiled "glad you've not been driven away" he said, closing his eyes for a moment "may be awhile before I am well enough to lead but you could handle it I'm sure" he smiled

Misty watched the crumbling embers, not looking up when she spoke "don't think I'll come back..enough near death experience for a lifetime"

"Maybe I could handle it, but that doesn't mean I want to," Lynna said smartly. She turned to Misty. "Come on, Misty! Near death experiences just remind you that you're alive! And how much you enjoy staying alive. Right?" She turned to smile up at the big black giant. "I'll bet this guy understands!"

The big black guy stared down at her, immobile, not reacting. Lynna tried to hold her smile, but it slowly faltered. She finally gave up. "Never mind then."

"Easy for you to say..nobody tried to eat you" Misty said. "I'm content to stay in my little office and watch the weather from there" she shuttered and shifted her position, she kept the radio in her lap, it had sort of become a comfort object at this point.

Quefo glanced up at the big guy "she said near death experiences remind you you're alive" he translated for him

The big fellow looked down at Quefo and grunted before returning his gaze to a spot on the wall. That was more reaction than he'd given since they'd arrived.

"That's a shame. I thought you'd like seeing what it was all your little screens represented," Lynna said. She looked up at the big fellow. "Really talkative, isn't he. What's his name? Is he a part of your tribe, Quefo?"

"I thought I would too" Misty said, and at first it had been exciting but now she couldn't wait to be home

Quefo shook his head "no, uh from different one" he said "not speak much" he looked up at him again "they want to know your name" he translated for him again thoigh doubted he would get much of a response.

There was a long silence. "Badru Gwandoya," he finally said, his voice rumbling like the thunder even when speaking quietly.

Lynna was about to say something when the big man spoke. She jumped a little then looked around. "Oh, wow. He speaks!"

Quefo grinned "there, he gave name see Badro." He looked back up at the big guy he now knew was Badro.

"I think bad thing must happen him. Not speak too much" he migjt of spent time in a cage with him but he didn't know anything about the guy

Lynna nodded then stood. "Hello, Badru. I am Lynna. This is Misty, Mathias, and Jonah," she said, pointing to each of their people, taking her time.

Badru looked at each person but made no further indication of interest. Silent and stable as a wall.

the next couple of days were much the same, though Misty was starting to get really sick with the infection in her shoulder, the antiseptic they had barely touched the surface. she tried to play it off but the morning the sun finally came out, she didn't get up, curled up in her corner sweating with fever yet shivering under her jacket. She didn't even stir when the radio came to life, the other trade crew trying to get through to find them

Mathias was very week and mostly slept but was still alive and fighting to stay that way. He had a strong will to live.

Lynna touched Misty's forehead gently. "Misty," she whispered. "Misty, please wake up. None of us know how to use the radio. Come on, Misty girl, you can do it!" She sighed, shaking her head. "This is not good. We need to get out of here, but where are we supposed to go? We're just as likely to miss the other crew as we are to meet them."

Misty slowly opened her eyes "mm?" She mumbled, trying to process what was being said. She needed help fast. The infection was uncomfortably close to her heart being in her left shoulder.

Hearing the radio though she forced herself to pick up the receiver "desolation crew. We copy" she said. Her voice was weak but they picked it up.

"Good to hear you're alive!" The voice on the other end said. "We see the cliffside you described. Not seeing a cave. Is there anyone able to come out?" Misty looked up at Lynna, she still looked strong enough "yes, sending out Lynna" she answered

"Okay, everyone, get ready to move out," Lynna said briskly. "Quefo, I'm putting you in charge of Badru since you can talk to him, and your mother. Get Badru to carry Mathias on the stretcher and be ready to move out. Jonah? I need you to put out the fire and get our stuff together."

"Got it," Jonah grunted, wincing as he slowly moved to do as asked, His wound was also infected, but not nearly as badly as Misty's, nor was it in as serious an area. He moved slowly but steadily as he put everything in their packs.

Lynna waited only long enough to see them moving before she bounded out. After the days of dark rain, the sun beat harshly down on her shoulders, almost feeling like it was physically shoving her down. Even with her goggles, she squinted blearily. She chose what seemed to be an easily visible spot and waved her arms.

Misty was falling back asleep already, the radio reciever slipping from her hand.

Quefo nodded and translated for Badru before he collected Misty's bags for her and carefully picked her up, obviously she wouldn't be walking out of here on her own now

They spotted her and waved back before jogging over to where she was. There were five in their crew. Mostly men but one woman.

"You must be Lynna" the first man said. He was rather short by anyones standards and built thick like Scott had been "where's the rest of your crew. Let's get them home"

"Up there in the cave," Lynna said, relief making her knees weak. "I am unbelievably happy to see you! We have two severely wounded people and one somewhat wounded, and we picked up a couple of Top Dwellers, as well. Don't be alarmed by them." She turned and scrambled toward the cave as fast as she could. Suddenly, tears pricked at her eyes. She wanted to weep! No, not now! Hold it together, girl. She was not going to be some weeping damsel in distress.

Badru had gotten Mathias situated on the stretcher, tying him down once more, before moving the whole thing toward the cave entrance. He watched the approach of the others in silence, hidden by the shadows.

Quefo climbed out of the cave when he saw them coming, bringing Misty with him. His mother stayed back to help get Mathias down from the cave soon as he was ready "she not good Lynna. Very sick" he said with clear concern in his eyes. To his people, this sick meant death they didn't have the kind of medecine they did

The trade crew that followed her back stared at quefo. Even young as he was, he stood taller then any of them

"I know, Quefo, I know," Lynna said. "We might be able to help her if we move fast enough. Will you and your mother be alright? Can we give you anything? Take you anywhere? You have helped us so much."

Badru came down last, guiding Mathias down then taking up his weight. He stood even taller than Quefo, at least twice as wide, black as night, and heavy with muscle. His heavy black hair fell thick around his face as he looked over the newcomers.

"We help bring all back safe" Quefo answered "then we go find clan. We be ok" he assured her and offered a smile.

The new comers couldn't help but stare at the man who might as well be a giant. To them he was really.

One of the other crew members took out his radio "conrad to desolation city. Picked yp the package. On our way to you ETA.." he glanced at the leader for an answer to that "ETA six hours. Be there before dark. Two of your crew are unconcious. All alive plus some uh..new friends"

Lynna smiled. "Thank you, Quefo. Thank you very much. Okay, let's go, crew. Onward toward home!" She glanced at the other crew leader. "Whichever direction that is."

Down below in Desolation, Gray left his post long enough to find a runner willing to take a message to Pepper. It only asked that she come see him at her earliest convenience. She was going to be so happy!
