Land Down Under (KJDarKnight & Treasure)

Misty groaned as she was moved, everything hurt, feelings hands on her thought as the medics tried to work she jerked and screamed, her delirious mind remembering the top dweller trying to grab and eat her she was to weak to put up much of a struggle though but the poor confused girl looked terrified.

The other trade crew, Quefo, and his mother were taken to a nice place to sleep, a sort of VIP place that might have been a mini hotel in the old world. Here and now it was a place that usually accomadated trade crews.

The medics quickly stepped in, giving Misty a moderate sedative to calm her as they wheeled her to the medical center. Once there, they set about helping Misty, Jonah, and Mathias. Jonah was the simplest, and they soon had him resting with a clean, newly bandaged side. Mathias was more difficult and touchy. They put him through surgery to fix his ribs and the hole in his lung, and it was only thanks to his innate strength that he pulled through beautifully. Misty was the most difficult. The infection was bad, and did not seem to respond to most of their standard antibiotics, but at last they hit upon the right cocktail.

At last, they were allowed to rest quietly. Gray sat by Misty's bedside, waiting for her to wake.

Misty slowly began to come out of it as the sedative wore off, she groaned and lifted her good hand to her head. She wasn't quite sure where she was but she couldn't hear the storm anymore she opened her eyes slowly still confused and disoriented but her eyes landed on him "Gray?" her voice was a bit rough and dry "Am...I dreaming?"

Gray smiled and shook his head. He moved his hands slowly and clearly. "You are home and you are safe. The doctors were very worried about you. You have been asleep almost two days since you got here."

It took her a moment to process his hand gestures, still fairly new to sign language but since meeting him she had been trying to learn more "That explains why I'm thirsty" she said, trying to make light of it for his sake, she knew she had worried him "Is everyone else ok?" she asked softly. she had done her best to play doctor for the others.

Mathias was recovering fine, he had to take it easy but he was Mathias and refused to stay in bed for long

Gray fetched her a cup of water from the table just out of her reach and handed it to her. "Mathias being silly," he said with an exagerated eye-roll. "Nurses have threatened to chain him to bed. Jonah is home reating. Lynna, too. All are well but you." And Mathias if you wanted to count his terrible ability to listen to doctors, but he decided not to go into that. He hesitated a moment before asking, "You made a friend?"

she carefully took the cup with her good hand, a bit shaky but managed to get a drink to sooth her dry mouth and throat. She smiled at the comment about Mathias, sounded about right. "Guess I'm not as tough as them huh?" she sighed, she didn't have great self confidence. "Yes. we made a few friens, Quefo, his mother and Badru, they were in a cage too and they helped us escape" she explained "Are they alright?"

Gray ignored her question. He leaned forward and took her face in both his hands, getting her ful attention. Once he was certain he had it, he signed, "You were hurt badly. You kept going. You not only kept going, you helped them. You are just as tough as Mathias if not tougher. Understand?"

Misty of course couldn't help but look at him when he demanded her attention like that. At his words she did smile a little "I... Just did what I had to do" she wasn't rejecting what he said but not fully accepting it either "That's all, anyone would have done the same"

Gray shook his head. "Not anyone. That is what makes you strong. Because you did it." He paused for a moment. "Now. About your friend." He pointed behind her, waiting for her to turn and look.

Badru sat on the floor behind her, watching quietly.

Misty's brow furrowed but she looked, then smiled "Badru?" she said, surprised to find him sitting in her room, he looked even bigger in here than he did among those massive tree's, she looked back at Gray "Has he been here the whole time?"

Gray nodded. "He let doctors do their work, then took up vigile. He watches you most. Some Mathias. The nurse once asked him to put Mathias back in bed." He smirked at the memory. "Mostly watches you."

she smiled and looked back at him, wishing she knew how to talk to him, Quefo wasn't here to translate for her. "I... wonder why me" she mused before she tried pushing herself to sit up slowly, grimacing a little when she tried to move her left arm. "Gray can you help me sit up..."

Gray frowned as if considering then nodded. He plumped up the pillows then gently helped her into a seated position. He fussed over her, trying to help her get as comfortable as possible. "Like this? Okay?"

"It's perfect Gray, thank you" she answered and smiled, he was always so sweet to her even though they hadn't known each other all that long. "have... you been here the whole time too?" she asked him now or had she already asked that? her brain still felt a bit foggy, she was sure it would clear the more the medicine wore off

Gray shook his head. "I wanted to be, but with Badru here I felt I was safe to leave you. Pepper and Peter needed company, and Lynna was really upset. Then I came to wait with you."

she smiled "Look at you, just making sure everyone is taken care of. so sweet" she said and meant it, but it did make her feel a little less special but they were just friends, he knew Pepper and Lynna better. "Sorry I didn't get to bring you anything....obviously you know why but...wait hang on... is my pack here?"

Gray thought about it then shook his head. "I do not know where it is. I'm sorry. What do you need? I hope you did not bring me anything. That would be beyond anything I can explain."

"Oh" her shoulder fell a bit "Well don't worry about it then, probably got left behind somewhere.... I don't really remember much of what happened those last couple days" she said shaking it off. she glanced over at Badru, truly wondering why he was giving her more attention than Mathias. Because she was a woman maybe?

"I will go ask Lynna. She will know," Gray said with a smile. He stood and nodded toward the silent giant. "He will look after you." He walked out, quietly closing the door behind himself. Now it was just Misty, the quiet giant, and somewhere in the maze of curtains Mathias.
