Land Down Under (KJDarKnight & Treasure)

She blushed and smiled "thank you" she signed. "I can only heal small cuts and bruises. I can help some with bigger things but it takes so much more out of me to heal people"

Gray assessed himself. "A little shaky still, but yes, I am feeling better," he replied. "Thank you for talking to me and for your questions."

She nodded and smiled a little "happy to" she answered, then glanced briefly at the others. One good thing about being deaf and him being mute. They didn't bother the others sitting there talking

Gray followed her glance. "It does not look like we have woken anyone. I suppose our 'handicaps' can come in quite handy sometimes, yes?"

She nodded "that's just what I was thinking. Provided there is always enough light" though she supposed he could take her hands like he had earlier but that must have been very hard for him

Gray debated a minute. She had been so open with him. Perhaps he could volunteer a little information. It was difficult after fighting to hide it for so long, but she had earned that much trust, hadn't she? "I need very little light to see. Even less than most who live down here."

She studied him a moment, particularly his eyes before she signed "I thought there was something different about them, you mentioned the light hurt your eyes" she paused then added "You can be my eyes in the dark and I can be yours in the light" she offered.

Gray looked past her to the window. "I made need that if I am to survive on the surface," he admitted. "I can barely take the moonlight. The sun..." He shrugged. Then smiled at her. "I would be honored to try to survive at your side."

she smiled, already feeling more at ease knowing they would be there for each other "Likewise" she signed, then an idea came to her "Is it easier to touch someone if there is cloth between?" she wasn't sure if it was the act itself or the feeling of skin against skin

"I do not know. I do not think I have ever really noticed. It has never come up," he said after a moment of thought. "I should try to pay attention next time it comes up."

"We can try now, just a little test?" she signed before slipping her hand under the blanket and holding it up, offering for him to try, if he chose to, not trying to pressure him or anything

Past experiences made him hesitate, but his curiosity got the best of him. He reached out and touched her hand lightly with just his fingertips. Nothing seemed to happen with just the fingertips. Emboldened, he laid his hand flat on her. At first, there was nothing. As he left his hand, though, he started to feel a light tingle in his palm. It was there. The longer he held his hand to hers, the more he felt the sharp needles pricking through the blanket. Finally, he pulled his hand away, wincing a little.

She watched him carefully, noticing he was able to hold her hand longer, when he let go she pulled her hand back "I have an idea" she signed and smiled "If we can fashion gloves with layers, you can work up to no gloves at all. That is if you wish to"

He'd never before had any reason to want to overcome his phobia or whatever it was. He started to tell her as much then hesitated. As he looked at her, he realized maybe there was a reason. Finally, he cautiously signed, "I am not opposed to trying it. I do not know how successful it would be, but I am willing."

She could see he was conflicted about the proposition but was glad when he agreed to try "It is part of us learning together" she reasoned "If it does not work then we know, if it does, then all the better. We can't know anything without trying"

she smiled back at him "No need for thanks, this is what friends do" she said, thinking she saw movement in the corner of her eye she looked to see Misty was sitting up, she looked away from them when she noticed Justira see her. She carefully got up to go get a drink of water, not saying anything to the pair of them

Gray followed her look and watched Misty, suddenly feeling uncomfortable. He wasn't sure why. After all, they were just sitting and talking quietly. He jumped a little as Lynna suddenly flipped over, growling incoherently and possibly swearing. He couldn't tell from the way she was slurring.
