Chronicles of The Omniverse Archived Lutetia City: Lupaix

Raquette slowly rocked Sophia, continuing to make soft shushing noises in an attempt to calm her. She simply stared at the wolf who spoke to her, her eyes cold and hard. She understood him plainly enough, but she couldn't reply. She wasn't about to go searching through her phone for a Terran version of her "voice." Instead, she slowly shook her head at him without moving her eyes. She was frustrated, and it showed in her posture.

"Maybe it would help for us to get off the street somewhere?" Chase suggested. "Do you have somewhere safe you two can go?" he asked. "Because from the sounds of it, this isn't about to let up anytime soon."

They hadn't come here to get involved this night, but it would be a bit silly to drag them out of a burning building just to leave them on the side of the street to get gunned down.

Riaze swore under his breath as he recalled the female's phone, searching his mind a moment before slowly speaking, lacking confidence in what Lutetian he knew.

"You...can answer. Know enough to figure out." Glancing irritatedly at Chase, he reached over to slap him on the back of the head. Reverting to Terran, he growled again. "I wasn't the only one supposed to be picking up on this, you know. What were you doing the whole trip over here?"

"Hiding above deck," Chase answered with a grin. "I'm not sure if you noticed, but that vampire of yours smells like a rotting corpse."

Raquette frowned as she tried to recall any places that may serve as safe houses for them. If Nieve's house was targeted, she wasn't confident that any pack member's house could be considered safe. The Den came to mind, but she discarded it. It wasn't going to be much of a safe zone if Baron and the others weren't there. She swayed a little slower, desperate for some place the two of them could be safe.

She lessened her grip on Sophia slightly to begin to type. "No. We will go somewhere, though. We won't stay out in this." Fake confidence. The only place she could think of was Snow's apartment.

"Directions." Growling it out in Lutetian, Riaze glanced both ways down the street. Clear...

For the moment.

"We'll get you there, then part ways." Back to Terran, his time to fight with his limited vocabulary not present. "On my honor, we'll see you safe and then go. Which way?"

There was a moment of hesitation as Raquette glanced between the two werewolves. She didn't have a choice. In her werewolf form, she would be an immediate target for any Scion she came across. Changing back, well...she'd probably attract just as much attention running around like that.

"South," her emotionless device rang out. She jolted her head in the direction, too, to make sure they understood.

After some travel...

Raquette slowed to a stop as they reached an apartment building. "Here," she typed out. She expected Snow would be out, but she was confident she could get into his apartment regardless.

She awkwardly shifted from foot to foot before typing again. "Thank you. I appreciate your assistance."

"You're...welcome." Casting an eye over the building as he chewed over the Lutetian words, nodding minutely. Satisfied with the sturdiness of the choice. "Go inside. Stay. Be safe."

Offering a final regard, Riaze turned back, studying the streets again. Slipping back to Terran, as he spoke to his nephew.

"What do you think. Keep out here and looking around, or do you have another idea?"

"Is there anything more to see?" Chase asked with a grimace. "I've never seen lycans fight this way. Not with each other anyways. And with guns?"

He frowned.

"Maybe we should just lay low until this burns out."

"Goodbye," she typed simply before running into the building. It was a quick navigation to Snow's apartment and she found his spare key just where she expected it. Once inside, she locked the door and gently set Sophia down on the couch so that she could make sure everything was secured. "Stay put."

It hadn't made much of a difference before, but...it gave her something to do and it was a bit reassuring. She closed the blinds and shifted back, rummaging through Snow's things in hopes of finding at least something to cover her nakedness. She settled for a large t-shirt and shorts before going back to where she'd left Sophia.

Turning over Chase's thoughts for a few moments, he nodded. "I doubt they're using silver. Hopefully."

Looking at the building again, he smiled. "We'll hole up on the roof here. We can keep an eye on the streets, and we'll be better placed to stay out of sight, or defend ourselves."

Jogging around the building a short way, the pair located the fire escape, the one-eyed lycan leaping to the raised ladder in a smooth single bound, his time among city life showing as he quickly disengaged the lock and lowered it for his kin. Beckoning, he growled softly as he scented the air again.

"Let's go."

As soon as Raquette set her down, Sophia jumped down from the couch and crawled her way under it. She scarcely fit and had to squish herself down to scoot along on her stomach, but once under she had no intention of coming back out again.

She could hear Raquette rummaging through Snow's stuff, but it wasn't the only thing she was aware of. With her senses heightened, she could hear the sounds of the neighbors moving in their own apartments. She could hear the creak of the fire escape as Riaze and Chase made their way to the roof, she could even smell the cat down the hall that belonged to the elderly woman who lived there.

As Raquette rounded the couch, she made note of the distinct lack of Sophia. She frowned, but slowly crouched down onto the floor to peer underneath the piece of furniture. She let out a soft sigh, both relieved that her charge hadn't run off and concerned for the little girl. However, Raquette could think of nothing that could make the girl feel any better about the circumstances.

Raquette simply laid down next to the couch, to be a presence. There were no words. No words to explain away the events, no words to assure her that things were alright when they still might not be. All Raquette could offer was her presence, in hopes it would at least be a small comfort. She slowly reached out a hand, close enough to touch Sophia, but only if she wanted.

It was a short time later that Raquette's phone buzzed with an incoming text from Sophia's father, Bastien.

'Vanessa's hurt. Are you and Sophia okay?'

Raquette grabbed her phone and replied quickly.

'Sophia and I are at Snow's apartment, we're fine. She's just shaken. Nieve's house was hit. A molotov.' It hadn't quite sunk in yet. Everything she owned simply...didn't exist anymore.

'Vanessa's in surgery right now. I'm going to have someone come by and pick you two up. Sit put.'

Sophia's ears had perked up, as Raquette was exchanging texts on her phone.

'We'll be waiting.'
she replied simply before turning her head towards Sophia. She smiled softly. The promise of seeing her father would probably coax her out when the time came. She didn't relish the thought of her finding out her mother was hurt, however.

Valentino sat in silence, only the sound of some classic Lutetian music subtly filling his living room. In his hand a glass of some of the finest wine money could buy.

His home wasn't marvelous, it was a large apartment near the edge of the local pack's territory. It was the furthest he could get from Baron without ending up in the crosshairs of another pack.

Not that it mattered, he could handle himself. The wolves of today were easy to handle.

It was nearly 4am when Valentino's phone went off. A call from Bastien from the look of it. It was certainly out of the norm to get a call from anyone in the pack these days, let alone from Bastien who had next to no real contact with Valentino since he had distanced himself from the pack after Baron took over. Given the ungodly hour of morning didn't likely bode well for it being idle chatter.
