Chronicles of The Omniverse Archived Lutetia City: The Monastery

Rei filled with pride at Romstone's words, grinning all the wider and nodding in thanks when he mentioned getting her materials. Even some that she'd had no hope of getting until she took the Silver. She was glad he was here in the Monastery, without him she'd be stuck with nothing but her basic materials and Grunxa shooing her off to bed during her tinkering time.

She paid close attention when he got serious, trying to find any inflections in his words or anything that might hint at what exactly it all meant. She looked troubled when he finished and her eyes scanned her schematics rapidly, a light frown touching her lips. "I'll....try, I don't know how but I'll try. Its important right?" She took a sip of her own drink and rolled the documents back up, slipping them back into her bag. "I guess I should start on knowing my classmates then, even if its just for convenience knowing my classmates is something I need to work on. I think...I think there's a person who contests my test scores? Yeah there is, he always knows all this obscure stuff in Sister Grunxa's class. Other than that I'm stumped." She admitted, shrugging hopelessly.

She smiled at Romstone and tapped her heart with two fingers "I should prooobably master this thing before I ask you to let me play with it huh?" She teased, hinting at a concept she'd barely started to even think up.

"Getting to know your classmates is an excellent start," Romstone nodded, "I know the boy you're talking about. Inarin. He's a good lad - a bit shy, but you may find a friend in him." He took up the blade and hung it on a rack. "Making friends is a lot like learning to forge a blade, Rei. You're bound to make lots of mistakes. Sometimes the metal doesn't smooth right and sometimes the edges aren't curved the way you want them to. You're bound to injure yourself a few times before you get it right - touching a hot piece of metal, chiseling too close to your fingers..." He stepped back, laying a hand on Rei's shoulder and nodding at the piece she'd just finished. "But if you're willing to let yourself get hurt and keep trying even when it's hard ... well. You'll end up with something extraordinary."

He turned to her, smiling his big bear smile. "I have faith in you, Rei. I know you'll do good things for this city and its people. Just open your heart to them. Allow yourself tofeel, to be vulnerable with them. Make yourself weak. Only then can you be strong."

He turned to the clock mounted above the furnace. "It is late though. You ought to get to bed." He wiped his hands on his apron. "I'll clean up here. Go to your dorm and wash up, you've got an early day tomorrow.

She nodded and smiled, she had to remember that name. She collected her bag, bowing low to him in a partially mocking manner when he mentioned going to bed, coming up and giving him a salute "Yes sir Master Romstone." She chimed, spinning out towards the door and grabbing her piece along the way.

She twirled the dagger around her finger by a hole in the hilt and smiled wide back at him. "I'll do my best Master. Thank you for everything you've done for me." She bowed genuinely this time before hurrying out the door, pulling it shut behind her. She should have gone to bed, should have. She couldn't let things lie however, Inarin, Inarin, Inarin. Open, open open.

She'd have to do some research and recon to find out his schedule and where he was, she wasn't likely to get much of an introduction done in Grunxa's clase after all.

Romstone watched her leave, smiling.

"I'll do my best Master..."

"I know you will," he nodded, speaking quietly to himself, "I know you will."

He turned to douse the forge.

The moon's pale glow gently illuminated the district, and nearly everyone was shut inside their homes and sleeping. Aurelie yawned and fished another note from one of her multiple pockets.

The note was simply a sketch of a person. The face was feminine but somewhat boyish, with short hair tied back and a few strands in front of their face. A few notes accompanied the image on the margins: approximate height, time and place to easily find them, and a few distinguishing features, namely unorthodox clothing for a Proselyte.

The figure was waiting for a few hours after dusk, and this person was the first to even slightly match. She made a few final comparisons before stuffing the note back into her pocket and casually approaching the person.

"Rather late to be out and about, eh?"

Inarin, Inarin, Inarin. Open, Open, Open. She'd had no luck finding her fellow Proselyte, apparently they didn't keep as harsh a tracker on them as she'd thought, that was good information to know. She smiled to herself and whistled as she walked along, a tune carrying across the breeze, not anything fancy or particularly extravagant. Just a simple tune to amuse herself, although she still messed up along the way. She clucked her tongue in annoyance after a particular drop in tone and licked her lips to moisten them. "Dang, still need to work on that..." She mused to herself under her breath.

Then a stranger approached her "Rather late to be about and about, eh?" She looked at them, taking in the details of their image for a moment before replying "Yes ma'am, but I've mapped my sleep patterns and I have room for a few spare hours tonight to still remain at optimum condition." She commented, stopping her walking at a fair distance from the figure.

"Who may I ask are you?" The Proselyte queried, swinging back and forth in place on the heels of her combat boots, pink and black armguards and gloves behind stretched behind her back as she swung.

"I like your attitude miss," Aurelie smiled and took off her hat, folding it up and sticking it into a chest pocket, "Reminds me of myself when I was your age."
Her porcelain-white skin and light silvery hair stood out from her dark outfit. She paced around Rei, getting a closer look at her modified arm pads and boots.
"Did you make these yourself? If only the rest of the Proselytes and Paladins put things like this into their uniform, the public might start realizing they have personalities after all," the huntress shrugged and giggled.

"Anyways, to answer your question, I'm Aurelie. I work with the church, and my higher-ups told me to look for..." She fished the note from her pocket and unfolded it, handing it to Rei, "This person. They didn't tell me why, or what I even needed to do when I found them. And no, I'm not here to kill you or take you away, if I was I already would have you at gunpoint by now," she reached to her holster and puled out her gun, unloading it and handing it to Rei.

"You're pretty adept at the engineering and blacksmithing departments, I thought you might be interested."

Rei listened to the stranger, rather, Aurelie, explain herself. Apparently the higher ups sent her to find Rei, for whatever reason. She sounded like she was lying through her teeth but her tone suggested she was telling the truth, but that meant nothing. Rei rubbed her pointer and thumb together in a supposed show of nerves, priming her legs spring-loaded storage in case she needed to fight. What she said had made sense, but that didn't mean she was trustworthy or that she wouldn't aim for her in the future.

Then she was trying to hand Rei her gun, apparently she wanted her to inspect it.

"I was watching you the moment you got in my sights, we would likely have been locked in close-combat before you could fire." She stated matter of factly, flicking her arm forward and letting a knife slide out into her palm, pointing it at Aurelie before handing her the blade hilt first and taking the gun in its heed. "So what's the plan now? You've found me and given relatively unique weaponry, so I assume your job with the church is more hands on than a Proselyte is usually involved in." She queried.

"The only issue about combat, though," Aurelie drew her weapon, the curved and hooked blade glinting in the moonlight, "Is this minor detail with my weapon," She held it close to Rei's knife, which caused it to leap from her hand and firmly stick to her strange sword.

"However, that's more or less all the tricks I have, so go figure."

"And yes, I do some less-than-standard jobs for the church, usually it's either helping paladins work on a case or some sort of dirty work that they don't want their own people doing, it's rather hands-on."

Aurelie glanced up at the moon to get a rough gauge of time, then stretched lazily. "You'll definitely be seeing more of me as time goes on, that's all I really know."

"However," the huntress held her hand out, "I need my gun back. My boss would have my head and the church would practically burn me at the stake if I gave a gun to a proselyte in the middle of the night like this. If they send you out on an errand with me, I'll bring a spare for you, but I'd rather stay on the Order's good side."

"Cool weapon" She quipped, clapping her hands together (Although it took an obvious amount of extra effort to not have her arm curiously taken along with the knife), the knife flew back into her open palm, her prosthetic leg rattling slightly "Magnets are always fun" She commented, stretching her arms up high behind her head and yawning.

"Dirty work hm? Well my quarry isn't here and I'm running out of hours, so if you have some dirty work in mind I would like to request I come along. As a Proselyte missions are hard to come by, or non-existent, and if I am to wait until I take the silver in order to test anything in a real situation my advancement will be far from maximum in efficiency." She stated, opening up her prosthetic leg and sliding the knife into one of the compartments, handing back the gun to the huntress. "I cannot provide anything that the church can't already, as they are my only benefactors, however I can provide partnership and a Paladin's combat skills without the morals and ethics which I assume are the barrier between your work and theirs." She said, speaking far more formally than was her usual.

"Should you decide to decline, I'm coming with you anyway, oh, and in future I won't need a spare, I'm working on something." She said with a grin, stretching her arms again and rocking on her heels.

"The bad news is, I don't have anything to do right now, all I was supposed to do was find you. I'll gladly bring you along for work when it comes my way, and I'll see if I can put in a good word for you, whatever the word of a non-paladin is worth." Aurelie eyed the prosthetic limb, intrigued by the fine craftsmanship: she didn't notice it was artificial until Rei opened it up right in front of her. She looked back up at the Proselyte, beginning to giggle.

"Say, who's this 'quarry' of yours? Is there a boy you like or something~?" Aurelie grinned wide and put her gun away.
"Is he cute? Oh who am I kidding, of course he is. Let's go find him, I want to see him for myself!" The huntress still enjoyed good mischief, even though she appeared to abhor many criminals she came into contact with.

Rei cocked her head in curiosity "Damn, no work huh? Well, drag me along next time." She offered, then the huntress said something strange.

"Is there a boy you like?"

"Like?" She questioned "I haven't even met him. Although based on his test scores and dedication he's a suitable enough companion in theory. Wait, I don't even know where he is, you're talking too fast." The Proselyte attempted to explain, who knew a battle-hardned huntress would act just like the girls in her class.

"His name is Inarin, he's a Proselyte with excellent test scores, but nobody knows where he's gone. Unless you have connections that can help us find a Proselyte whose gone off grounds past curfew?" She prodded with a grin.

"I think I know a few people I could ask," Aurelie smiled and shrugged,
"If he's out at a club or something he'd be easy to find, but if he does well in class, it might not be that simple. Do you know what he looks like, or anybody that knows him? These contacts of mine are only going to be useful if they have information to work with, after all."

"I asked around but I only got second-hand accounts on his appearance and his test scores, but its something to work with right?" She offered. Being tracked down by this stranger seemed to be working in her favor, although she was disappointed by the lack of situations to test herself or her mechanics.

"I know his class schedule as well if that helps, but he's not in the Academy as far as I know, so either he's been dragged into something or theres something more behind his Academic exterior....either way I'm getting interested." She said, half to herself.

Aurelie scratched her head, "Sounds odd,I thought leaving school grounds was serious trou-" she stopped and slowly raised a closed fist, a gesture to hold position.
"Is that them?" Aurelie subtly gestured off to her side, to keep from telegraphing that she knew they were there.

The two girls would notice a blonde-haired proselyte leave his dorm, duffel bag slung over his shoulder. He glanced left, then right, before starting forward across the courtyard, seemingly headed for the library. Rei would recognize him as Aaro Caresin. He was in her history class, and had a reputation for being a jokester and a mild flirt ... though not the most prestigious scholar.

"Hey Rei," he nodded to the girl as he passed her, slowing down a bit as he noticed the second girl. "Oh. Hello there..." He stopped walking altogether. "And who might you be?" Her lack of uniform meant she wasn't a proselyte. "The Monastery doesn't get a lot of visitors this late."

"A friend of Rei's, I decided to come by for a visit," Aurelie turned towards him and flashed a brief grin. She eyed his duffel bag for a moment, then looked around briefly.
"Going out to study?" She asked playfully, taking off her gloves and putting them away in one of her numerous pockets.

"Hey" She said plainly, not 100% sure what this persons name was, they were in her class she knew that much.

"Oh yeah this is uuuh, Arie, she's a close friend. I was distracting her from checking out my classmates. She's the investagitive type." She said, giving Aurelie a playful nudge, mimicking some of the girls from her class. Smoooth, just mention investigations and checking people out, toootally not suspicious

Rei brought out a screwdriver and started tightening some of the bolts in her arm absently. "So yeah, what are you up to so late?" She asked, joing in with Aurelies queery.

"What am... I doing?" A look of nervous surprise flashed over Aaro's face before he caught himself. What was the question Aurelie had asked him earlier.

"Going to study?"

"Study!" Aaro perked, "that's right! I'm going to study, of course. Study study study, that's me , always studying." He hefted his duffel bag and cleared his throat, painfully aware of how suspicious he was acting. He needed to make his story sound more believable. "Inarin is helping me out, actually! Going to meet him at the library. That kid has a brain like a vampire has bloodlust, lemme' tell you." He chuckled, a bit less nervous-sounding, eyes flitting towards the library.

"Well if you are studying tonight with some friends, could we come along?" Aurelie gave a playful giggle and smile, "We don't have much to do right now, I hope we won't be a burden to you~"
