Welcome to the Wayward Academy
OOC/SIGN-UPS/IC
"Welcome to back to another year at the Otherworld Academy, my Wayward Gods!" The Principal proclaimed, her hands wrapped around her podium as if it were her own child. Her voice seemed to echo around the main hall, burrowing its way into the hearts and minds of each of the 200 young Gods who sat before her. They all seemed to huddle together before her, congregating into small clusters like penguins searching for warmth in the winter. She smiled; for now, it all seemed so important: the popularity, the prom dates, the parties. It was all life and death for them-- the thought of how things would change for them once they transcend life and death always brought a smile to her cheeks.
Some of the students she had known since before they could walk, others she had only met a heartbeat ago, yet one thing remained the same for all of her students: they were all waywards. Beyond that, they were her waywards. Though there would come times when they would hate her- and times when they would hate her- deep down they all held a special place in her hear- Zeus help her if any of them found that out.
"I'd like for you all to take a deep breath" She shut her eyes and inhaled through her nose "Savour this moment. Seal it away in the vaults of your mind and treasure it. This here- this handful of seconds- marks the start of one of the most important years of your life: your senior year. It seems like a lifetime away, but every second that passes gets your close to Ascension Day, and you need to prepare yourselves..." She took in another deep breath, this one far less theatrical. She signed; the students needed all the preparation they could get... "This year will define the kind of God you will become. Will you achieve your potential or let your powers slip away? Will you be remembered as Old Legends or slip away into obscurity?"
To let the last of the Old Gods slip into obscurity... the thought still pained her...
"But beyond all this, this year will define the kind of person you will become. After Ascension Day, everything will change for you, so savor these sacred moments. Make the most of your finitude. Days like this won't come again, so make this final year the year you always dreamed it would be"
A whispy smile crawled across her face, creasing her eyes and loosening her brow. Maybe she would have been considered beautiful in her day- maybe even now- but the students could never see it. The world looked past her silver river of hair that flowed from beneath her helmet and relative youth- to everyone else, she was just the wise, old principal, queen of the detention room and custodian of infringements. Such thoughts never bothered her though- she always had bigger Krackens to fry.
"I'd like to take a fraction of this moment to welcome the most recent influx of students to our school- Welcome to the Otherworld. I am Principal Minerva, Goddess of Wisdom, Schools, Art, and War. I am one of the blessed few who have been given the privilege of teaching you this year, and I would like to start by saying this-- the Academy will be unlike any school or training center you have been to in the past. Here, you will be pushed to achieve your highest potential, not just as a student, but as a diety. You will be taught much of how our world works, and of your place in all of it. You will be taught to tap into the full capacity of your powers and how to control them and use them responsibly. In other words, this school will be the driving force shaping your destiny. We hope that you will learn all you can from us, and in time, perhaps we will find ourselves learning something from you"
Minerva brushed her fingers through the feathers of her ceremonial headdress backward, combing back the peacock tails of her Centurian helmet's scalp. He straightened the tie on comparatively unimpressive suit below it, and prepared to move onto more black and white matters. The time to inspire the students had come and gone, and now it was time to deal with business.
"I'd like to call all students who are yet to find their seats to sit down and prepare to listen to Vice Principal Wotan's presentation concerning how you represent the school in the nearby villages" A universal sigh erupted throughout the hall "Look..." Mirva bit her lip, transforming from a strict mother to an overbearing grandmother in a matter of seconds. In other words, she was playing the 'Principal Card'. "I understand that nobody here wants to start the school year with a lecture, but your behavior in front of the mortals needs to be discussed, both for sake and in the name of the sanctimony of the school"
Once VP Wotan had started to speak, the mood in the room and switched from 'engaged interest' to 'complete and utter boredom'. Half the cohort had zoned out by the time the Sky God had finished his first paragraph, and the room had devolved into a sea of chatter...
-------------
With the room's attention slowly drifting away from the speakers and towards the students, the Young Gods began to simply banter amongst themselves. Some spoke of what they had done with their families over the recent holiday, whilst others told stories of their exploits at the Academy during the break- in short, nobody was talking about anything remotely related to Wotan's talk. The students primarily congregated in 3 small clusters:
-----
It is up to the Transfers to decide which group they would like to try to get in with- their first associations could change the way the school perceives them for some time. Current Students would have to return to their current group and try to catch up on the conversations they were missing, and greet any other new or returning students. This was going to be a year to remember alright.
