Smugglers Cove (Love2write and Silence)

Shortly after he'd come up with his devious plan Killian's door opened and Star stepped in with the boy. "No I don't need anything." Not anything that he could ask them to pick up anyway. Frowning he shifted in the bed and stopped short as he noticed the woman's nose wrinkling. "I don't smell that bad." Didn't matter what she said. Women just had sensitive noses. Of course the kid had to make it seem like it was awful. Timo never did that before he was likely covering his nose just to exaggerate things.

As soon as the door shut behind them Killian lifted one arm and tilted his head to the side to sniff. Almost coughing he dropped the arm again. Maybe it was bad. While he didn't like the idea of anyone helping him he couldn't really bathe himself either. Instead he had to wait for Kato to come in for his morning check.

************************************

Instead of actually getting a real shower he got some kind of strange sponge and dry shower smelling powder stuff. It was going to make him smell like a ridiculous bath house but, he knew he needed it after smelling himself. The only thing that made it awkward was again needing help to get himself undressed and dressed again. Killian's hair was perhaps the only thing that actually got soaked and he had to put his head in the sink for that. Whatever the strange wash was Kato had said it was for people who couldn't get into showers and apparently having incisions almost the full length of a leg counted for that. Perhaps tomorrow he could shower since the incisions would look better by then.

Now that he was nice looking the man started to play with his control room pad. It was here and he wanted to see if he could lock random doors in the ship. Mostly he wanted to lock Star out of her room so she would have to come see him.

Star and Timo walked hand in hand through the marketplace. "It feels so weird to actually come into one of these places with money to spend." Timo notes, clutching his pouch of credits to his chest, as if afraid to lose a single one.
"Yeah, but its nice right? Here, why don't you get yourself a treat. I'm just going to look at this vendor over here." Star points to the stall right behind the snack kiosk.
"Sure. Do want one? I'll pay!" Timo offers.
"Aw, thanks kid. But no. I'm good." She turns away and looks over the items. There was one thing she'd really begun to miss on the ship. Music. The computer didn't have any good selections to play over the intercom so she began choosing a number of different styles to download into the computer later. Timo comes back to her side and helps her choose several more albums before they moved on to the next stop.
***************
A few hours later Star and Timo returned to the ship with an excessive number of items. Supplies for the cat, music, food, and other comfort items. "I'm going to put my stuff in my room, Kid. Why don't you give that thing to Killian."
"Sure!" Timo rushes off to Killian's room and knocks on the door. "Captain! I got you a present!"

After Killian had all the rooms locked he moved onto making a few other minor adjustments. Star would have a very warm room. Timo's he left alone for the time. The boy would probably not understand this kind of joke. Mischief was limited from the bed and he couldn't seem to get what he wanted out of it. Hauling himself out of the bed he carefully limped along. It still hurt to even attempt weight on the leg. A tiny bit couldn't hurt anything.

Pulling out a drawer he sprinkled several of the tracking tabs just outside his bedroom door. They blended with the floor and that way he could track the next person to come to his doorway wherever they went. It might be fun to do that for a day. It wasn't long after he got back into his bed that he decided to eat and then pulled the blanket over himself to go back to sleep.

************************************************************

Several hours later he woke to enthusiastic thumps on the door. Groaning he turned on the bed only to discover that his leg flopped off the pillows. He'd forgotten about it until his very swollen knee hit the other one. "Ow!" Sitting up on his bed he grabbed the handle bars and sat up. While he was busy putting his leg back on the pillows the boy burst through the door.

The captain stared at the unusually shaped box in the boy's hands. "What is that?" He wasn't sure that he wanted to know but, he was going to find out.

Timo bounced over to him and handed it to him. "Open it! Open it!" He declares excitedly.
Inside was a round ball. The moment he touched it, it sprang to life and hovered into the air. "Its' a camera drone!" Timo declares. "It'll follow you around when you want it to and take pictures when you tell it to. That way you'll have something to remember us by if anyone leaves or dies." Timo waved to the drone and said. "Cam, take picture!" He grins and a light flashes on the drone.
"Picture taken. Do you like it?" An automated voice asks. It projects the image into the air of Timo grinning.
"Yes. Save it."
"Saving."
Timo turns back to Killian. "Well? Do you like it!?" He asks excitedly.

Killian apprehensively plucked at the top of the box. When it opened he grabbed a medium to small sized ball and it almost sprang out of his hands. "Shit." Jumping back a little he listened to the boy describe it and he shook his head and nodded it at the same time. So far the captain had no idea of what to think of the drone. It might be fun to have following Star around the kitchen so he could see what she was making.

Before the boy had finished talking about the usefulness of taking pictures Killian had already found a useful way to incorporate the camera into routine. He could program it to take pictures periodically during night and send alerts if there was motion detected and he could use it to review damage to an area before sending someone in. Suddenly a flash lit up the dingy room and he winced. "Oh its very nice. I think I've got a few uses for it already."

Seemed that the boy was pleased with the camera. Killian was still thinking of how he was going to program this little thing. Snatching it out of the air he held onto it to observe any of the outlets and inputs. When Timo decided to leave he watched the boy step out the door. There were still a few tracking devices out there that hadn't stuck to his shoes.

Then he heard the distinct crunch of someone stepping on the rest of them and a knock. "Come in."

It was Star. She was looking at his door with a confused expression. "My door won't respond to my codes. Was there a power outage or something? Mike said some of the doors around the ship aren't working for him either. I wonder there are reminants of that virus in the computer." She muses, somewhat annoyed.
Then she sees the camera drone in his hand. She crosses her arms and smirks. "You like? Timo bought that with his own money. $100 creds. You should've seen the look of pride on his face."

Killian met Star's gaze when she stepped into the ship complaining about her door not working. He wanted to laugh but, instead frowned. "No...Didn't have a power outage." Shifting on the bed he made a little room for her to sit down. "Guess you could perch here for a bit." This time it was impossible to hide the grin that had been clawing its way to the surface. "Oh yeah I like the...." His eyes widened slightly. "100 credits. I'm not worth that. Hell only thing I'm good for is stealing." It was shocking the kid would pay so much money for it. "Where does the kid get an idea that he should spend that much money. He needs to be saving for his future. Soon as this war is over and I've made a few more good hits I'm out of the business. Assuming I don't get killed in the meantime."

Star takes the seat, giving him a curious look in response to his grin but distracted by the conversation about Timo. "He cares about you Killian. You're the father he's never had. He looks up to you and he wants you to be proud of him. And don't you dare reprimand him for spending that much. If you saw his face when he first bought it with his own money, you'd understand how much more it meant to him than it means to you." She pushes the drone away as it hovers around her.
"Shall I take a picture?" It asks.
Star looks between it and Killian then grins. "Yes....one moment." She snuggles close to Killian and presses her cheek against his, "Cheese!"
"Picture taken. Do you like it?" The drone shows it to them.

Killian was taken aback with the woman's adamant retort to his opinion. "I don't want to be a dad." The idea in itself was terrifying. "Don't know anything about it and...heck I'd mess up." Of course it didn't stop Star from making her little point more vivid. "Alright I won't say anything. You shouldn't let him spend money like that." Before he could protest to the picture being taken it was already being snapped.

Looking at the picture he shook his head. "Save it." There was no getting out of this and he figured that Star would likely take another if he didn't keep this one. "So shall we try to over ride what's happening so you can get in your room?" Pulling the tablet out he started to type in a few codes. "You're room should be fine now."

On her way to her room he locked it again and then Mike came to his door. It was kinda nice that nobody was ignoring him anymore. "Oh hey." Killian couldn't help grinning this time. "Star told me you were having problems with a few of the doors."

"Damn door to the bathroom won't open." Mike replied grouchily, crossing his arms. "Tell Adam to do that damn re-boot again. Or I'm urinating on his door."
"It's still locked!" Star groans, coming back. "I need a shower and to change." She notes the hidden smile on Killian's face and the datapad in his hand. If he could unlock it from that thing...then that meant..."You're doing this on purpose aren't you!" She rushes for the datapad.

Killian shrugged. "You could always use my bathroom." He was getting lonely stuck in the room and before Mike could respond Star came stalking back. It was a little faster than he'd anticipated. "You could..." Before he finished the sentence it seemed she had caught on. Moving the datapad over next to his bad leg he held his other hand up. "Careful for my leg now."

The engineer narrowed his eyes and pinned Killian's shoulders to the bed. With each thumb he pressed into the nerves so the captain would lose his grip. "Take it Star and unlock the damn ship."

No matter how hard he tried to keep hold of the pad it was impossible. Finally Killian's shoulders were released and he still grinned. "Hardly any other way to get you all to come back here and visit me. I didn't want to use the intercom." It would have been far more simple but he didn't want to advertise he was getting lonely either. "Needed to grouch at somebody or have someone come grouch at me. I would have eventually unlocked the doors." Taking the pad back he stuffed it underneath himself. "You two can go do whatever you need to now."

Mike shook his head. "You'd better not lock those doors again or I'll come in here and take that damn pad for good." Walking out the door he grumbled. "Captain's bad a kid. Can't stand to be by himself."

Damn his leg she was getting the datapad back. She wrestled his arm for it and soon enough she pried it away. "85 degrees! In my room! ARE YOU TRYING TO KILL ME!" She exclaims, nearly hitting him over the head with the datapad, not at all moved by his "i'm lonely" speech. She turns the temperature back down to a normal level and unlocks all the doors.

Kato leans against the door of the supply closet, knocking wearily. "Hello...let me out now, please." He asks, his throat hoarse from lack of water and constantly calling out. Sweat dripped down his neck as the closet seemed to get hotter and hotter. "Anyone hear me?" Suddenly the door slides open and he falls out into the hallway. He gasps in joy and kisses the cool floor, groaning happily as he crawled out of the cramped space. "Never again...never again." He promises, making his way straight to the kitchen for some much needed water and food.

Star throws the datapad back at him. "Oh I'll grouch. Pathetic. I thought you better than this, Captain." It was difficult to tell by the tone of her voice if she was teasing him or seriously angry. She storms away to her room leaving poor Killian alone again.

85 degrees wasn't awful but, it would certainly leave one a little on the warm side. His little speech didn't go over so well. It wasn't anything he had thought of ahead of time. All the same he chuckled. This got a response.

Adam stared at his computers. Finally stuff started to unlock and he grumbled under his breath. "I need out of here for a night." Getting off board for a night would be easy enough. All he had to do was go talk to the captain. Killian was far from being himself since the leg injury and since he'd only had one day to let it heal the since the last round of stitches he knew he wouldn't be up and around.

Stalking out of his space in the ship he started out for the captain's cabin. A light crunch sounded and he rolled his eyes. Captain rarely cleaned his room or the space outside of it. "Captain!" Beating a little louder on the door he waited for a response and then stepped inside. He was slightly surprised to see that Killian was looking far more lively than what had been reported. This meant he would have to move faster. "I need off this ship. It's driving me crazy and the boy!"

Killian sat up in his bed. "Get out of here then." Pointing his left index finger at the man he continued "And not another word about the boy from you. He's part of the crew." Laying back he closed his eyes. "Just go."

"I need some of the pay. I'll help you get up." The captain sighed and pulled himself up with the bars above his bed again. Moving himself to the edge he then wrapped an arm around Adam's shoulders and the two of them worked their way down the hall to the control room. Inside the control room Adam waited patiently while Killian pulled out the books to review the amount held aside for Adam.

"You've got about 100,000 credits." Last hits and stuff they sold had come off at a good price. "How much you want?" Killian started to unlock the safe and he frowned when Adam said he wanted it all. "Really?"

The navigator nodded. "Yeah I want it all. Been saving for a while." While stealing all the money was tempting he knew that he would have it all in a short while. Soon as the captain handed the money over Adam grinned. "Thanks." Ducking under one of the captain's arms he started them back to Killian's room. Once they were in the room he got Killian almost to his bed and then clapped a hand over the man's mouth. Giving a savage kick to the man's leg he felt the captain go limp almost instantly. It was a fast way to get the captain to pass out without having to worry about a wrestling match of some kind.

Walking out of the room he took the pad with and locked the door. Nobody needed to see the captain till Adam took over and then he could think about how to deal with Killian. As for the rest of the crew...Adam began locking off doors in the ship. Everything was on lockdown till he could return with his own crew. 100,000 credits would be more than enough to buy a few men to steal a ship.

Kato was in the bathroom when the door locked. He steps out of the shower, putting a towel around his waist and attempts to open the door. "NO!!!!" He groans as he realized it wasn't opening. He throws the towel back off, fills the tub and returns to the warm water while he waited for the problem to be solved again.

Star was in the kitchen eating when the doors to the kitchen slid shut with a loud click. She looked over her shoulder at the door, with half a sandwich in her mouth. "Killian! If you're pranking us again, I swear you'd better stop or I'll not make any supper for you!" She yells at the security camera then returns to eating her sandwich and reading her book, certain it would unlock at any moment.

Mike was locked in his bedroom. However, being that the old man was napping he didn't even notice and continued to sleep soundly, unaware of anything out of the ordinary.

Timo. Whether he was lucky or unlucky to avoid being locked in a room remained to be seen. The boy was busy searching for comet who'd gone missing. He searched every place he could think of that he could get access too. He was beginning to find it weird that so many doors were locked off, but his young mind couldn't process the danger it hinted at. Instead, he took it as a sign that Comet was not in the section of the ship and continued his search.
After what feels like hours he hears a kitten's mewling. "Comet!" Timo sprinted down the corridor to the bay that led to the ramp. He picks up comet holding her tightly his arms. "What are doing all the way out here? You trying to escape? Silly cat." The ramp suddenly lowers and Timo sees Adam, followed by a number of mean looking individuals. "Adam? What's going on?" The boy asks curiously, feeling nervous from the looks he was getting.

Killian groaned as he woke up. He felt a little cold and his entire leg was almost on fire. Tears sprung to his eyes just trying to get up. Pushing himself up with one hand he rolled onto his side and saw the blood beginning to form in a puddle on the floor. "Ugh..." Dragging himself over to the bed he groped underneath the pillow to see if he still had the pad. Thankfully it was there. Normally it would have been time for another round of the pain medications. Instead he was painfully aware of himself and the danger they were in. Adam wouldn't have done something like this if he didn't have some way to take over the ship.

Opening his tablet he saw all the doors had been locked except the main bay. Looked like the tracking chips indicated motion in the kitchen, some of the were skittering about the decks in a haphazard manner and the last set were quickly returning. Killian's vision was growing blurry as he tried to focus on the screen. Laying his head on the floor he tried to take longer even breaths.

Finally he could see well enough to type the codes. If he got this wrong who knew what Adam would do with the rest of the crew. He would never have thought that Adam would do this after so many years. The man was grouchy but, he got a good share of money and almost anything he asked for. Only thing he didn't get was to be the captain and that must be what he wanted. Power. It wasn't all that it was cracked up to be. By now the third set of trackers were on the ship.

****************************************************

Adam set foot on the deck of the ship only to be faced with the boy and his stupid cat. Raising his gun he fired it and watched the boy crumple before the cat ran off. "That's what's going on kid. Captain won't be coming to save you this time either." Stepping over the boy who was writhing on the floor he motioned to some of the men. "Go ahead and spread out. Kill the lady, and engineer. I'll want the doctor and captain for now."

Cursing under his breath Killian forced the codes through and his door opened. One set of trackers had quit moving entirely. He doubted that it was Adam. It had Killian's heart in the back of his throat. Blinking a few more times he wiped his eyes. They were so blurry it was hard to tell what he was hitting. Then he remembered the camera that had to be on the bed somewhere too.

"Aahh." Pulling himself closer to the bed he kneeled on one leg and pat around the bed until he felt the camera. It sprung to life and he sent it out his door before locking it again. For now the best thing to do was going to be making sure that the doors stayed locked for as long as possible. The crew had to stay safe. Overriding what he could he set in new codes to prevent Adam from taking over just yet. No doubt the man would already be working on it. Stuffing the tablet into a side pocket Killian drug himself to the closet in the corner of his room. A bloody streak from his leg. Rolling to his side he made enough room to open one side of the closet and he pulled at an old brace.

The captain winced as he forced his leg into the brace. He had to be able to walk and this would lock his leg straight but, provide the stability to get around as needed. Almost whimpering he strapped his leg in and then grabbed the closet door as aid to get to his feet. Grabbing a gun out from underneath his pillow he opened his door and started unsteadily out into the hall. First room he needed to get to was Mike's room to get the man up and then they would spread out. Leaning against one wall he grabbed his tablet out of his pant pocket and sent the camera to scout the route to Mike's room. It was clear. After that all he needed was to get Star out.

Timo eyes widened as Adam raised his gun. He's going to kill me? The thought passed through his mind as the gun went off and his arm and chest began to burn like hell fire. Comet, took off like a comet, blood sprinkling his black and white fur. His eyes blurred with frightened, painful tears as they leave him to die. Can't die...Can't die...don't want to die....it hurts. He blinks the tears out of his eyes, looking down. There was a hole in his arm from where the bullet had gone through. From the way his chest burned horribly as well, he assumed it had straight through. He wanted to get up and find the others, but the pain wouldn't let him. So he lay there, doing what he knew to stem the blood flow while he waited for help.

Star broke yet another knife trying to pry the door open. "Damn it! Killian! This isn't funny anymore!" She yells at the security camera yet again. The door slides open. "Fina..." She gasps and ducks as two men raise their guns at her and fire. She sprints to the back of the kitchen grabs a pan of boiling hot water and throws it in their faces. She grabs a pair of large knives and stabbed one in the side, as he writhed from the pain of the boiling water, and cut the throat of the other before attempting to push past them into the hallway.

Kato 'hmms' to himself, refreshing the hot water in the tub for a third time after trying the door handle for the 10th time. Still stuck. He sighs goes under the water, a dull thud reaching his ears. He sat up, wringing the water out of his ears and looked at the door. Nothing. No one was knocking. He shrugs and relaxes back again.

Mike jolted when he heard the crashing at the door. When it slid open he saw the captain standing there. The man was terrible pale and his leg was oozing blood. He had the ridiculous brace they had made together. "What is going on?" It was far from a prank and he immediately started to reach under his bunk for a gun. Pushing out the door he stared at the captain for a moment. "I'll check on the boy and shut down engines. This ship won't be moving anywhere. You head up toward the kitchen. I think its about time she would be cooking."

Rushing through the hallway he ducked toward a room only to find it locked and he was faced with three men coming down the hall. "Oh lordy." Cocking the weapon he stepped out and started firing as he walked steadily forward. A horrible bolt of pain ran through his shoulder and he grunted. Almost dropping the gun it kept on firing because of a determined trigger finger.

Just as he came to the bay he saw the boy laying on the floor. Running toward him he kneeled briefly and rested two fingers on the boy's neck. He had a pulse still. "You hang in there kid. Just stay still I've got some work to do before I come back."

****************************************************************

First room Adam sought out was Mike's. The door was open and he cursed under his breath. There was no telling where the old man was at. "Damn you." If he had to he was going to take Star. She would make a good incentive for Killian to behave. He obviously favored the woman. On second thought....The man almost smiled. He would just kill her as planned. It would break the captain. No one had ever seen the man smitten before and this would complete the process of taking over the ship.

Killian worked his way through the ship with the camera ahead of himself. He glanced at his tablet frequently. Without being able to move quickly he knew that he needed all the advance warning possible. Then the alert for the kitchen sounded. "No no..." Swinging his leg a bit faster he winced every time it hit the floor. Shoving the monitor back in his pocket he figured there wasn't any time to waste. Either he would run into someone or he wouldn't. Gunshots sounded as he came near the kitchen and he heard Adam talking.

"Oh little pet." Adam cooed mockingly. "I've got just the plan for you."

Timo felt himself drifting off when a hand touched his neck. He heard Mike. He was going to leave him!? Timo caught his hand, with his own bloodied one. His breathing had become labored the last few minutes and each breath seemed harder than the last. "Don't...leave...me..." The boy begged, tears streaming down his face.

"I have to kid. Just hang on. I'll be right back." Never did Mike move so quick as he did now, to shut down the engines in a desperate attempt to stave off this mutiny.
*****

"You son of a bitch." Star spat in Adam's face. She still held the bloodied knives in her hand, her only defense against Adam's gun. She was coiled, ready to strike as soon as there was an opening. "Killian trusted you! I don't care what plan you have. You're not using me."

Adam glowered at the woman. "I don't have to use you. All I need is a body."

******************************************************************************

Moving around the corner Killian could barely see the kitchen. Already there were bodies near the doorway. It was going to make it difficult for him to get in. Still he swung around toward the room just in time for a bullet to tear into his good leg. "Gah..." Falling into the door jamb he fired at Adam who bolted through the other side of the kitchen. Stumbling into the kitchen he found Star laying on the floor. Gently letting himself down next to her he rolled her onto her side. "Star?" Grabbing a wrist he felt for her pulse. He couldn't feel it. Trying the other one he started to panic and he rested a hand on her neck. "Don't do this." Almost desperately he pulled her onto his lap and held her close while he scooted them both toward a wall for some protection and balance.

The captain knew he couldn't move any longer. One leg was already in bad condition and he could barely walk before. Injury to the second had effectively crippled him for the time. Cradling her body he still kept his gun arm free.

************************************************************************

"Report in." Adam called for his men. They weren't making progress like they were supposed to. "I need...." Just as he was about to give another order the lights went out. Cursing under his breath he started back toward the kitchen. He knew they shut the main power off. Flicking the mounted light on his gun he started back and immediately fired clearing shots.

Half of the captain's face was covered in blood and he figured it was a head shot. There wasn't time to make sure it was more than a skim. Rushing back down to the main room he found his men strewn across the halls. Cursing loudly he charged into the control room only in time for his chest to be blown open.

Mike stood over the man and sneered. "Yah nasty bastard. When this is all done we'll be shoving yer body into space. There won't be nothing left of you." Shooting the man again he then ran back to the boy. Picking Timo up he ran to the med-bay to find the door locked. Typing the code as fast as he could he prayed that he remembered it correctly. Finally the door slid open and he sighed in relief. "Kato! Help!"

Someone had finally unlocked the door to the bathroom and Kato was free. But the sound of gunshots going off around the ship alerted him to the fact something bad was going down. He pulled on his clothes a quickly as possible and hurried out. There were bodies in the halls and blood everywhere. Mike yelled his name from the med-bay and he sprinted to him.
Timo was laid out on the bed, his arm and chest bleeding profusely. The boy was pale and unconscious and had nearly stopped breathing. Kato blinked, scanning the injuries. "Its a through and through on his arm. The bullet hit his rib cage, collapsed his right lung. I need you grab that towel and stem the bleeding on his arm."
Kato orders calmly.

Mike rushed to do what he said while Kato grabbed a special needle and stabbed it into the boy's chest, releasing the air. Timo gasped, his eyes wide with pain and fright. "You're ok. You're ok. Stay calm." Kato puts his hand on the boy's shoulder to keep him from writhing off the table. "Mike hold him down and hold this needle in place. I'm going to give him a sedative."
He does so and few seconds later Timo escapes to a place of blessed sleep. Kato nods to Mike. "He'll be fine. I'll get the bullet out. You check on the others."
