Smugglers Cove (Love2write and Silence)

Killian was glad that the whole thing blew over after a few days. Just seemed that she was a bit more touchy about things than usual. They were only a few hours away from landing and his alarm went off to tell him he needed to be checking the navigations and patients. Star was already up. She must have been efficient...or not. A heaving sound from the bathroom got his attention. Sitting on the edge of the bed he pulled his boots on and slowly walked over to the bathroom door. Slowly pushing it open he peered in at her. "You alright?" His eyes widened slightly when she mentioned the flu and laid her head on the toilet seat. "Don't do that." Stepping in he gently moved her away and cleaned the seat and all around the toilet. "Now you can do that." Seemed so unsanitary to lay her head on a toilet seat that wasn't just cleaned.

Andy was a little surprised and irritated when Killian showed up with all his wounded folk and the boy. Of course Kato would go back with him to take care of the people. It was a good cause though. When Kato had gone out of the house to check on those in the ship and Killian was off doing his shopping Star took her aside. At first the little blonde looked at Star and shook her head. "No I don't...I think Kato has some of those pee strips if you wanna do the thing in cup." Wandering into the supply room she dug through what was there. It was almost guaranteed with only men to treat that Kato would have left it behind. "Probably more accurate than those other things anyway. So I take it you've had sex with him."

Handing the strip and small cup to Star she tilted her head to the side. "Suppose it could happen if you sleep with him. I'm thinking about trying with Kato but, I'm not ready yet." Anna gave Star a reassuring grin. "If you are I'm sure he'd be just as vicious about protecting the kid as he would be about you." That had been proven with Timo and perhaps the only thing that Anna could really say. She hadn't ever taken the time to get to know Killian real well. "If you don't feel too shy about it tell me how the test comes out."

"Yeah." Star wasn't really reassured. She took the test, sitting on the lid of the toilet, head in her hands as she waited for the result. I don't want to be pregnant...I'm not ready to be pregnant. We haven't even settled down. I'm still aging at my normal rate. We've got a whole fleet of guys to take care of now...this is the worst time to be... Star looked up at the test. Positive. She nearly threw up again.

Star opened the door to the bathroom, showing the stick to Andy. She looked devastated. "I'm not ready for this..." She whispers. "Killian sure as hell isn't either. And he's...he's...alien." She spun back into the bathroom, puking again.

Anna waited outside the bathroom. It might have been a little creepy, but she was curious. Finally the door opened and Anna walked a bit closer. She could see Star's face was full of worry and then suddenly an unexplained urgency. Taking the cup and stick she frowned a little and watched while Star threw up in the toilet. Holding the stick with just the tips of her fingers she walked it over to the garbage and threw it away. Probably needed to take this trash to the disposal so Kato didn't get excited for nothing. Dropping the cup in with it she tied the bag and then washed her hands.

"Well I remember you talking to him that day we found out he's an alien. Obviously the concern about compatible junk isn't anything to worry about anymore." Anna tried to conjure up what it must feel like to know that your children were half alien. "At least it won't be ugly. He's a good looking alien. All the Chips were like eye candy." Taking a seat on the edge of the tub she stared at Star for a few seconds. "So you love him obviously. I'd sleep with a guy too if he came back for me and stuck around through the worst of it. Maybe its something you just got to weather for him. Not like Killian would leave you. What you got to worry about?"

"Alot...for one thing...what if I can't carry a half-chippequoti full term? What if this baby dies because I'm human." That thought alone was enough to nearly make her sick again. "Killian...he...he doesn't want to be a father...he made that very clear with Timo. He protected him yes, but fathering is something else entirely. We haven't even settled down! We're going around and....and...and rescuing slaves and taking on the masters with a fleet!" Star leaned against the wall, her face in her hands. "And what about after its born? Its hard enough raising a human child then throwing in Chippequoti blood! You know how hard and cruel their race is. What if it isn't just cultural...what if its a blood thing? What if my child is inherently cruel and violent and there is nothing I can do help him or her?" Her list of concerns were far from over but this little bit was enough to give Anna a glimpse into why she was panicking.

Anna let out a long breath. "Yeah that's a lot." Trying to work through the greatest concern through her mind she could only come up with a few things. "First of all I don't Killian well enough to say that he would be a good or bad father. Then he's the only full blooded Chip that we know well. Would you say that he's terribly cruel or violent." The last part Anna wasn't so sure about. She'd never thought Killian was awfully cruel, violent maybe, but it might have been the way he was raised. The man never talked much about how he grew up. "It's bad timing and that's just the way it is. Kato and I talked with a doctor. After the treatment a few changes happened. You might have noticed that for the first time since we've known him, he looks like he's at a healthy weight. We don't know yet; it might have effects on children."

Sighing she beckoned for Star to come with her. "The doctor gave us some files to look over. Basically a summary of the research he's done and accounts of the Chippequoti. So far Killian is the same in many ways of doing things. You've seen him do a lot of very surprising things that are nothing like his people. Star..." Anna didn't want to see her suddenly lose everything that she'd fought so hard to have and live for. "He's always given you a lot of room to express yourself and that's Chippequoti. Listens to you and that's part of his people too. They consider females to be equal. Some good things come from them. What's different is that he's never considered blood hierarchy. You're still his equal and he loves you. Just have Kato check on you. This isn't anything that we know of happening before. Chips have never stepped outside of their bloodlines before. At least not what our doctor found out." At the end she could only hope it helped to settle Star down a little bit. "You should tell Killian before its obvious. Besides if you didn't know he was an alien and circumstances were different I don't think you would have minded so much."

Star nodded. She had calmed significantly as Anna worked to reassure some of the biggest concerns on her mind and offer research that she could read. "Thanks, Anna. I appreciate it. You're right...he's a good man...and I'm sure when the shock wears off...he'll be ok too." She was still feeling stressed about the whole thing but thankfully not to the point of throwing up anymore. Now the biggest challenge, how to tell Killian.
**************************************

Star sat cross-legged on her's and Killian's bed that night. She was waiting for him to finish his rounds (which were shorter than normal due to Kato now being there to help them). She had nearly wore a hole in her hands from wringing them so much. Finally Killian entered and she sat up a little straighter. "I need to tell you something." She says, patting the bed beside her. Once he sat she took a breath. "I'm...pregnant...and no...this is not a joke."

They had the supplies ordered and they would be arriving tomorrow. As for the prostitutes he gave them till tomorrow night. Coming on board the ship he made the rounds with Kato though this time it was significantly shorter. Doctor even ended up correcting him on a few things. Finally it was time for bed and he walked down the corridor to his and Star's room. Before he had a chance to even sit down and just have some quiet time she wanted to talk.

Killian sat heavily on the bed next to her. He would have laid back except she was already talking. The little pause after her announcement was odd and he grinned. "...and no...this is not a joke." His jaw dropped and he stared at her for a few seconds. "Are you sure? I wore the damn condom and..." Whatever he was saying wasn't helping. Her face...she was so worried looking. "Well is it a boy or a girl? Worst case scenario an alien will pop out." Sometimes he still forgot that he was technically an alien. "Um...." That phrase was bad and he knew it. "C'mere." Killian pulled her closer to himself and kissed her. "I love you." There was one bonus though he was smart enough not to say it out loud. Didn't matter if he wore a condom now or not.

Star clung to him tightly. He'd reacted a little better than she'd expected. "I'm scared, Killian." She admits, and goes on to repeat most of things she'd told Andy, minus the bit about him saying he didn't want to be a father and her worry about the child being inherently cruel or violent. That didn't seem like a logical fear when she had Killian in her arms. Still, it lingered in the back of her mind. Mostly, she was frightened about the pregnancy itself. Neither of them knew what to expect with a half-chippequoti child.

All the stuff about the kid were things Killian wouldn't have thought of. Narrowing his eyes slightly he shrugged. "I don't know. Remember the Chip kids we saw?" That brought back some good and bad memories at the same time. "I guess we won't have to worry about the baby turning out like them. Won't be full blooded and...uh...that should be good. Rest of this stuff I don't know." Killian reached up and rubbed the side of his head. He was starting to get a little concerned himself. "What's normal when a lady get's pregnant? I don't know anything about this stuff."

Star chuckles lightly. "Nausea, fatigue, mood swings, having to go the bathroom more often...just to name a few and that's just the first few months." She sighs, releasing him and laying down on the bed. "I don't even know what chippequoti females go through or if its the same."

She cuddles close to him as he lays down beside her, in desperate need of the reassurance. "I know...you said before...with Timo, you didn't want to be a father. Was...was that just with him? How are you feeling about this? Somehow I expected you to be freaking out more. Thankyou for not...by the way. I'm freaking out enough for the both of us right now."

Sounded next to horrible what she said. "Oh that's all?" A slightly sarcastic tone came to his voice and Killian laid down with her. Laying one hand across his side and wrapping the other around Star's shoulders he stared at the ceiling. It was hard to imagine what the next several months would be like or however long it took for her to give birth. Star began talking again and somehow the more she talked about it the more worried he got. "I wasn't ready and...uh. Didn't want to be a dad all by myself." The questions just kept coming and he adjusted himself on the bed a little bit. This time he let her finish and he swallowed and then looked at her before saying anything. "I'm nervous, that's how I feel. I don't know what pregnant women are supposed to do or not do, I don't know what's normal or not, I have no idea what to do with babies. I've never even held one. Guess I'm as ready to be a dad as you are to be a mom." Rubbing his side he frowned a little. Sometimes the scar hurt and the body holster rubbed on it funny. He was starting to think about getting a new one that wouldn't sit along that scar all day long.

**************************************************************************************************

The next night Killian started to crawl out of the bed as quietly as he could. Star still woke up and he leaned over to kiss her. "I got to head out to the meeting place. If they come they need someone to get them on board and then we'll lift off."

His nervous made her laugh lightly. Both of them were so completely unprepared it was almost comical. Almost. She noted his frown which made her start worrying anew. "What's wrong?" She asked in concern.

*******************************************
She groaned as he woke her up, crawling out of bed. "What are you talking about? What meeting place? Whose they?" His answer made her wish she hadn't asked, and she dropped her face back into the pillow. "I'm fine...go." She waved him off and fell back asleep.
**********************************************
Before they took off Star told Kato. He was the only one who seemed excited about this pregnancy and the only one who actually sounded the least bit prepared. He wasn't an OBGYN...not by a long shot...but he at least knew enough to help her relax some, suggesting vitamins, foods and other such things that were necessary for a healthy pregnancy. Unfortunately...half of those vitamins didn't exist by name in this system and the ship wasn't stocked with half the things he was talking about...yet. He promised to do some research for her for which she was grateful. For now he was able to give her some medication to help with her nausea which had become increasingly worse with the last few days.

She made a list and brought it to Killian. "Next time we stop at a station we need to get as many of these supplies as we can...and...I'm going to need a new wardrobe." Clothes shopping. Now that was something that made her happy.

Killian glanced over at Star when she asked him what was wrong. Pulling his hand away from his side he shrugged. "Nothing." Of course it wouldn't pass so he lifted his shirt and let her see the angry red scar. "Just hurts is all. Holster rubs on it all day."

The group of women shuffled into the ship behind Killian. By now he was starting to see some of the folly in his idea. One of them had already tried to gain his extra favor by getting cozy and trying to reach into his pants. Moving her hand away he pointed to the room where he'd set up several beds. "You just go enjoy yourselves in there." Closing his eyes momentarily he put his hand on his forehead. "Just go to bed. You know what I meant." Then he realized it was the navigations room and he was going to have to fly the ship with them all in there. "I'll keep the lights dimmed and..." Consideration for their sleep was tough too. "I'm not up for dibs. Just found out my woman is pregnant."

A couple of the women squealed with delight and a few others shook their heads. "Would all please just lay down and behave." It was like everything he said could be construed in the wrong manner. Killian shook his head and stared at the screen intently. Once they were safely on track again he locked the control settings so that nobody could mess it up. "Now go to sleep." Stepping out of the room he heard a few of the women laugh.

One of them smiled gently. "I think 'The Beast' is terribly romantic at heart. He's letting us choose our own man and if no one suits us...We don't even have to marry or sleep with another one again." Soft twittering continued for the most of the night.

Killian returned to his bed with Star and pulled his boots then his shirt off. Slipping under the covers he put an arm around Star's waist and tried to go to sleep despite all the muffled murmurings on the other side of the wall.

***************************************************************************************************************

After making his rounds checking with the injured and the women Killian ran into Star. She was holding out a list for him. Staring at the list he nodded and put it into his pocket. "Ok." There was the added words of wardrobe! Typically that meant a very long day shopping and if she said too loudly the.........A squeal of excitement came from the navigations room and one of the women came running out. "Clothes!"

Almost sick he nodded. "Yeah." The women did look like prostitutes and they would need some kind of money for something else to wear. Anna had provided him with more than enough. She said it was only 1 month of salary to get all this stuff here. Apparently the estate she forged herself into owning was beyond wealthy because it was connected to a high priced commodity and manufacturing. "I'll let you know when we get to the next stop." Walking with Star to their bedroom he shut the door behind them. Putting his hands on her shoulders he searched her face. "How are you feeling? That list was pretty darn big. Is it normal?"

Star pressed against Killian a little tighter as a couple prostitutes came rushing out in exclamation for clothes...of which they were in desperate need of. There were so many of them. It was very uncomfortable. She walked with Killian back to their room and he put his hands on her shoulders. "I'm nauseous all the time it feels like, but other than that I'm alright. All of this normal for a pregnancy. Not everything on that list has to be gotten right now...just the first half...like the vitamins and food and things like that. The second half...the baby items...we can get that later. I just wanted you to know what we're in for."

She pulls him into a hug, a soft giggle coming to her mouth as she thought about the fact that in a few month there would be a lump between them. "I think you should talk with Kato a bit about what we're in for. I'm going to be doing somethings and experiencing some things these next few months that I won't always be able to explain, and you're just gonna have to roll with it. Like...peanut butter on oatmeal or salt on melons. I am going to cry...randomly and your only job is to hold me." Star looked up at him. Now he looked nauseous. "Are you going to be ok?"

For this being such a normal thing there was an awful lot to do and get. Killian was almost bewildered with just the thought. Absentmindedly he let her pull him into a hug and he listlessly rested a hand on her back. There was so much more to this and salt on melons made no sense. Peanut butter in oatmeal was somewhat easier to explain. Holding her was supposed to fix this? Looking down at her face he tried to be less nervous though it wasn't working. "I don't know." Seemed like a terrible amount of work. Lifting the edge of his shirt he rubbed at his side again. Replacing the holster was going to become a necessity. Maybe he would have to settle with wearing the gun on his other leg. Originally he moved from a leg holster to a body holster because it made his leg hurt with all the old injuries. Now his side hurt and his back itched all the time from the scars. It was getting to be troublesome.

*********************************************************************

With a sullen expression Killian went to Kato's room on the ship. Knocking on the door he waited for the doctor to open it and then sighed, "I guess I need to talk to you about Star being pregnant." Felt weird to talk to another man about this. It wasn't even Anna and Kato supposedly knew more than Killian did about this whole process.

Star's eyebrows furrowed as he messed with the holster again. "Why don't you just get a different one, or wear it in a different spot?" She asks incredulously walking over to the drawer for the cream that had become her best friend. "Here, take off your shirt and lay down." She commands. When he did she took the cream and began massaging it kindly into his back, especially the points of irritation. She even began to massage his muscles near his neck and around his shoulders. She knew this wasn't going to be any easier for him than it would be for her. He had so much to learn and not much time.
*********************************

Kato looked up in surprise as Killian approached him. "Oh? Did you have specific questions or you just need a primer on pregnancy?"

Kato chuckled and pulled out his datapad. On it were the physical changes to expect week by week. Trimester by trimester. "The first trimester is always the hardest because of all the pregnancy hormones that will be raging. You will have to be at your most patient and your kindest during this time. Don't be worried when she starts to sleep more or when she randomly yells or cries at you. Usually its just a mood swing and it'll pass within a few hours. Most of all...since she's incredible nervous about this pregnancy and being uncertain to expect with a chippequoti half child, you'll need to be extra observant of her.
Be there for her every moment you get. Show her you are committed, not just as a husband but as a father as well."

Killian almost had the deer in headlights look. "They have books on that stuff?" How much could happen that they would have to write a book? Nodding a little he stepped into the office/bedroom and sat across from Kato. "Maybe you'd better tell me. Doubt I could focus enough to read." If there was on lie he was fluent in it was all the excuses of why he needed someone else to read to him instead of reading for himself. "I'm already here how much more committed can you be?" Some of these things sounded ridiculous and he wasn't sure what Kato was trying to say. "So they don't write books on being a dad too do they?"

"Oh Killian." Kato shook his head. "There are thousands if not hundreds of thousands of books on how to be a good parent. And there may just be that many books and articles too on how to have a smooth pregnancy. It's a big deal." Kato leaned back in his seat and began relaying from memory several of the things Killian should begin expecting in the next couple months. "Now...is any of that going to change because she's having a half-blooded child. I don't know...but I'll keep an eye on her, make sure things are as normal as I can determine."

It was not comforting in the least or even helpful. "Oh good thousands of books that I don't have the time to read and now you can't tell me shit anyway." Feeling a little irritated he stood up and then remembered that he should at least thank the doctor. "Thank you." Stepping out of the room he started toward the navigations to see if there was a port nearby.

************************************************************

Finally the day arrived that they were at a port. Killian went back to the room to tell Star. "Hey..." Sitting on the edge of the bed he gently shook her shoulder. "We're here at port. Want to go get some more clothes or shall I get the other shopping done first?"

Star had just survived another battle of the stomach and was laying in bed trying not to move for fear of the nausea kicking back in full force. She grimaces as he shakes her shoulder. "Ugh...I want to...but my stomach doesn't. Give me an hour...hopefully I'll feel better by then."
She caught his hand as he got up. "Hey...I love you." She smiles weakly.
******************************************
An hour later she was indeed feeling much better and was walking hand in hand with Killian through the shops that lined the street. The more they shopped they more excited she seemed to get. "Maybe this won't be so bad afterall." She says picking up a child's toy. She wanders into one of the stores picking out new toothbrushes and toothpaste, lotion and a strange looking pillow called a body pillow.

Next stop was a healthfood store where she made purchases for a large variety of items including vitamins and supplements. As she went, she did her best to explain what each purchase was for and why they needed it. Some of the purchases were "just cause."

The final stop was clothing. She went straight to the bra rack and began looking through them. She gives Killian a cheeky grin. "Guess what, my breasts will be getting bigger. You'll like that bit." She laughs, ignoring the incredulous looks from the shoppers around her.
