Spellheart

Marcy once again lays in bed, seemingly with the fight drained out of her, "They can't hold her forever. If they can't find something by the end of tomorrow, they'll have to let her go. Since Amiko is innocent, that is what will end up happening."

Momoko scratches her chin. "I thought the government could do anything they wanted," she mumbles, and then shakes her head. "Whatever. What happens then?" She asks.

Marcy sighs, "Of course the government can do whatever they want on paper, but the government isn't made of just one person and nobody would want to take actions that threatened their position within. While nobody would question special agents interrogating a treason suspect on little evidence, after three days they'd need to file reports. Once the right people learn that they've wrongfully detained Amiko, they won't be able to keep her. That is why they likely intend to hold onto her up until the moment they would need to be held accountable for their actions." Marcy seems detached, "But why would you care about what happens after?"

Momoko flinches and stays quiet for a moment. "I don't know. I was just wondering if things would go back to normal for her." She sighs. "She's a nice person. She doesn't deserve for her reputation to be ruined because of this."

Marcy looks at Momoko, dumbfounded. She looked defeated before, but now she just seems plain angry. "Amiko hasn't known a normal day in her life! She never gets a break from it. Surely you've seen enough to know that nothing about this situation is normal. Look at her fucking house. She doesn't get attached to anything since it might get taken away, or used to implicate her for some sort of crime. And you know enough about her possessions and mannerisms to know she doesn't belong here. She's from one of Spellheart's most prestigious families. She graduated with top marks, but her honors were revoked. I could go on all fucking day about all the ways that Amiko suffers at the hands of others. But if you think this ruined her reputation, about her normal, you are about a decade too late to show your concern."

Momoko stares back at Marcy, face turning from confused to a sort of dejected sadness. "How was I meant to know that?" She mumbles, crossing her arms and hunching her shoulders in a little. "I only met her yesterday." She looks around the room. "I just thought she liked to be more basic about her belongings, or something."

Marcy shrinks, curling up with her pillow again. She can't seem to look Momoko in the eyes, "I'm sorry. It wasn't right to take it out on you. I just. I thought you were different..."

Momoko shakes her head. "It's fine, don't worry about it. I understand." She glances over at Marcy and gives a smile that comes off as melancholic, though she's pretty sure that she doesn't see it.

After maybe ten seconds of silence, Momoko clears her throat. "If this isn't how you were hoping things would turn out, I can go," she offers, pointing with her thumb towards the front door.

Marcy sits quietly for a bit longer. It is hard to tell if she even registered that she had been asked a question. Some ten seconds later, she speaks again, "It isn't like I don't want you here. It is more like, its hard for me to swallow that I'm alone in my feelings, you know. Now, it just feels like I'm helping to drag you into something that was never your problem to begin with. To you, Amiko is just a sad story, one that you've only known for a day. Someone who isn't special to you in the way that she is to me. You already have friends and family who are important to you. So, maybe it is better for you to just forget about us... It's just, I could never make that choice for you. I won't force you to leave. I'll make it your choice. Is that selfish?"

Momoko hesitates, biting on her thumbnail as she listens to what Marcy has to say. She shakes her head. "I don't want to leave you on your own." She turns her head to look at Marcy. "Unless you want me to leave. I'll leave if you want me to." She says quickly.

Momoko flinches at the touch and looks down into her lap. "I don't like to leave people alone when they're feeling down." She admits after a moment of silence. "Well, I don't like to leave people alone full stop. But especially not when they're not feeling the best."

Momoko rubs at her temple with her free hand. "I mean, it's better than being fully alone." She mumbles. "I'm sure we could find something in common." She says, though voice isn't too confident.

Marcy sighs in response to Momoko's pleas. Honestly, it sounded more like she was trying to convince herself than anyone else. Marcy, didn't have anything further to say to Momoko, so she laid down and settled this time. Closing her eyes, it seems clear that she wasn't asleep, but definitely quite comfortable in this position.

After a completely sleepless night, Eryn yawned and started to get up.
"RING!" her annoying alarm clock rang.
Eryn's eye twitched as she smashed it with her fist. What time was it? When looking at the remains of her clock she saw that it was...
"11:15?!" boomed Eryn.
Damn, I slept in!
What was she going to do today? She was going to have to look at her schedule that was taped on the wall of her bedroom in her medium-sized apartment. There was nothing fancy about it; the walls and the ceiling both had a smooth texture and were colored red, there was a flat-screen TV next to her, and there was a closet built into the walls, that was all.
She still couldn't believe that she'd signed enough papers to get her her own apartment! It was better than being put in some crappy ol' orphanage.
Anyway, when looking at her schedule, she saw words written out in blue ink. They were:
  • Wake up
  • Do NOT smash alarm clock
Eryn rolled her eyes and continued.
  • Brush your teeth
  • Eat breakfast (no pancakes)
Another eye roll. She kept going. "Let's see here... Go on your ten mile jog, get coffee, and then... KEEP YOURSELF OCCUPIED FOR THE REST OF THE DAY?! Why has this extremely vague part never appeared to me before?!"
Maybe 'cause this is the first time you've read it even though you made it four months ago, dumbass, said the sane voice in her head.
Eryn grumbled and grunted before getting out of bed. "Guess I'll get my morning routines done with... Why am I so annoying?"
She put on a green tank top with the word "YUCK" over her strapless brown bra. Then she put on her muddy-yellow shorts. "Y'know, I might just dye the mid-right strand of my hair green today... what am I saying? Of course I will!"
And that's what she did... when she finished her morning routines. Then, she got her phone out.
"IT'S SIX O'CLOCK?!" Eryn shrieked. I must've put the time on my clock wrong!
Eryn called Momoko, her long-time rival. "Yo, Momo. Wanna join me on my jog? Don't wanna be lonely!"

Momoko looks at Marcy, then down at the ground. "Alright," she says after a few seconds of silence. She sounds defeated. She stands up, pulls her bag over her shoulder and walks out of the bedroom. She half opens the front door, but before she leaves she looks back over her shoulder at Marcy. "Hey," she clears her throat, "promise me you'll take care of yourself? Amiko, too." With that, she opens the door fully and slips out, shutting it gently behind her.

She walks onto the pavement and glances around at the street. It's mostly empty, but there are a few people. They don't give her much of a second glance. She glances down at her watch and sighs to herself. How is she meant to go back home and explain what's happened? In her eyes, there isn't a way to do it.

Just as she considers calling Yuuki, her crystal balls rings in her bag. She has to dig through her bag to get it, and can finally answer it. Her eyebrows involuntarily raise at Eryn's face looking back at her. "Hey Eryn!" She says with a smile. So that she's not just standing outside of Amiko's house, she starts to walk down the pavement. "Well, I mean..." she trails off. She doesn't really feel like running, but it could be distracting. Maybe she could stay over at hers for the night too? "Sure!" She finally answers. "I'll head on over. But...are you busy tonight? I'm looking for a place to stay for the night."

Eryn chuckles as she puts her hand on her hip. "Not in the slightest! We could have a sleepover tonight!"
Eryn's jade eyes glowed. "Is it okay if I invite another friend over? You could, too."
Eryn snickered. That's right, act all nice... and then show her that you're the greater of the two! BWAHAHAHAHA!

Momoko laughs a little. "Great! And, I mean, if you want. I'm not going to bring anyone, though." She keeps on walking, before she realises that she doesn't really know where he's going exactly. "Hey, can you text me your address? I feel like it's been ages since I've been over."

"Meet me at Flixber Avenue. My apartment number is 6798. Be there!"
She then hung up and called one of her besties, Kibi Saki. "Hey,you up for a sleepover? Yes? Cool. Meet me at my apartment."
She hung up once again and put her crystal ball in her bedroom. "This is perfect! Those two could gimme advice about the exam I'm takin' later!"
Eryn smiled. "I'LL DO BETTER THAN BOTH OF THEM!"
