Stahlhiem College of Magic

"Actually I think Mikida has a high chance of living. Welll at least until she wakes up and someone notices she is with us," Jagton replied back not forgetting the girl's question.

He turned to the girl saying, "Thanks her name is Karma. I honestly thoght you got the hint last night." He started remembering when he was choking Thal how he was yelling for Karma. He took some pancakes and ate the with the griffin.

Rahvi held up her bandaged hand with a tight smile. "I was a little distracted." She grabbed a piece of toast and offered it very slowly to the griffin, letting it get used to her. She met her eyes. "You must have hated last night, Karma, not being able to help him."
Withdrawing, she finally took a seat ans found the coffee. Pulling a plate full of toast towards herself, she poured herself a sizeable mug and took her first fewswallows of the morning. She closed her eyes, feeling the warmth spreading to her fingetips as it slowly brought her back to life. Eyes just that bit brighter with the caffeine stirring her system to a proper daytime state, she turned to Ella, her bunkmate. "Morning!" she said chirpily, offering her the coffee mug. "How'd you sleep?"

Steven should have been at breakfast by this point. Unfortunately, he saw the schedules mention the library, and decided to go looking for them. After making a wrong turn into several more wrong turns leading to several more wrong turns, he fell through the floor of an attic and fell through the ceiling into the meal hall. At this point, Steven decided that if it was possible to become this lost while exploring the College, he needed to bring rations for any future expeditions. As such, Steven picked himself off the floor, walked to the table where he saw the other first years, stored some cheese and bread in his bag and then proceeded to eat breakfast.

"Hey Steven what took you so long," Jagton asked looking at Steven. Karma gave a yawn and stared at the new boy with curiosity.

"Oh yeah! This is Karma," Jagton said introducing his griffin. Karma gave a small growl as to say "Hi."

"Apparently the latrine hallways all lead to the salt and pepper mines, which have a tunnel through the post office into the land of ten thousand attics. I think. Right now I'm blaming accidental illusions caused by wandering through the testing grounds near the beginning. Hello catbird." Steven held his hand out as if offering a handshake to Karma.

Despite having claws for forelegs Karma lifted up her hand as she had seen others do before and did a sloppy but acceptable shake. All of the sudden Karma started jumping around squaking and ran outside full of energy.

"She's just happy," Jagton said.

"Wow, what an amazing creature you have there little one. By the way I didn't catch your name in all the hubbub last night. I'm Ella," she said as she extended a hand to the Griffin Civilian who had risked his neck to literally save hers.

"Steven, I think you have a bit of plaster in your hair," Ella said as she reached out to brush it away.

"I slept fine, by the way, thank you Rahvi. No coffee, though. Gives me anxiety. I think sleepy girl is curled up at the foot of your bed, though. Should I have woken her up?"

"But really, thank you guys for the whole helping me not be dead thing. I kinda like my neck."

Ella definitely felt better this morning. She was shaken for sure, and the bad dreams hadn't helped. But she felt...safe, and a little happy? Whatever that meant. Whatever it did mean, it wasn't bad. Definitely better than bad.

"Jagton, and no problem Ella. Besides he was a huge dick. When I was riding Karma here he was throwing stuff at us." Jagton replied.

"It's not like I'm having horrible nightmares and feeling the pain of being choked to deathh. Like that is too specific for that to happen." Jagton laughed it off but he was crying on the inside.

During breakfast, the headmaster, while working on stacks of paper work in his office, was interrupted his assistant knocking on the door. The headmaster closed his eyes to calm himself, as after the incident last night he needed to complete several more forms to make sure the college wasn't in to much trouble, but at the same time he expected as such. "Yes...Mage Page. How may I help you?"

"I'm sorry for interrupting you headmaster, but there are some emissaries from House Rando here to speak to you." said the assistant and Arnest sighed.

"As expected..." thought Arnest. "Send them in Assistant." He said the door opens up a few second later and enters in a extravagantly dressed Night Verdantkin, escorted by two guards equipped in, and wielding spears, made of blue metal and white ivory. Arnest stood up and walks up to the emissary, trying to intimidate the Verdantkin, but the man's arrogance kept him from fearing the masked Headmaster.

"Hello, Headmaster." Started the Verdantkin "I am Amhas, diplomat of House Rando. I have...some questions over some incidents that have been brought to our attention last night." The Verdantkin began walking around the office, examining the room from top to bottom

"Yes. As I recall, one of your Princes have been severely injured after he attacked one of our students." Replied Arnest

"Injured? Mr. Waltherus,...that is your surname is it not, in the eyes of you and the rest of your college that is what everyone sees, but what we see is rather different. Now I do believe you understand the political situation of my dear Verdanthome do you not, being a Province Governor and all?"

"Of course. Verdanthome turmoil right now if I remember correctly. With almost as much infighting, and civil warring as the Border Empire during the War of 9 kings. What of it? Are you worried for House Rando's safety? Rando is one of the most influential house in Verdantkin are they not?

"Well of course Headmaster, but as you can assume, one of our Princes being...assaulted by not one, but an entire group of your students...will look poorly on our House."

"And what of it? According to the report of both Witch Hunter Vulmar and Master Mage Borghild, Thal Rando-

"Thal Rando, was merely making conversation, when a group of vile thugs began assaulting the poor boy, before stealing whatever valuables he had on him, all while the teacher watched and a Witch Hunter stood idly by." Said Amhas and the emissary placed a pouch of valuable jewels onto the table, and a letter. "That is what happened was it not?" Arnest looked into Amhas' proud eyes as he opens up the letter and reads the note inside, a modified report making out the students assaulted by Thal to be the aggressors. Arnest lowers the letter then opens the pouch, grabbing one of the gems inside, a bright orange, near see through sapphire.

"You brought this much...just to forge a report...and for what? Vengeance?"

"Justice dear headmaster. We merely want the right people to be put on trial for the assault of one of our Princes." Said Amhas.

"I see..." Said Arnest and he crushes both the letter and the gem in his hands, bewildering the emissary. The headmaster could no longer hold in his anger, as he throws the paper into the emissary's face. "Do NOT assume you can bribe me like some common mayor you damned crow! I am Govenor Headmaster Arnest Waltherus and I will NEVER betray the trust of my students and my staff so Rando can keep its ego intact!" Arnest's outburst surprised Amhas, but the look of surprise, turned back into a sinister smile.

"I see. Then...how about this offer. <Guards. On him> Said Amhas and the two guards lowered their spears preparing to fight, but Arnest threw the gem powder in his hand at the guards, blinding them and distracting them, before his eyes glowed and the dust reformed itself into a swarm of orange crystal ants, crawling throughout the escorts' armor, biting and stinging them. The two shouted and cried in pain as Arnest spoked to the terrified and confused Amhas

"I am not just a Governor, but a teacher and an educator of young minds. I teach children how to put their magic to use, to benefit the world, while you sit in your wooden towers, drinking Border Wine, eating breads made of Shiremoot wheat, and cheese from Bretainnian Cattle, and you have the AUDACITY to ask a Borderman not only to damn TWO of his staff, but a number of students as well?!" Arnest's eyes flashed one last time, causing the ants to all explode, killing the guards inside their armor but leaving the room intact, save for the floor, which ran with the blood of the slain Verdantkin. Amhas took several step back into a wall as Arnest towered over the diplomat, looking straight into the Verdantkin's soul with his two rage filled eyes. But the headmaster didn't harm the diplomat and he left Amhas with an order. "Leave. My. City." Amhas didn't say anything, he merely left as fast as he can. Once the Verdantkin left, Arnest calmed down and he looked down at the two bodies. He sighed in exaustion as he sits back down in his chair right when Page opened the door.

"Headmaster, Diplomat Amhas just ran by did..." She saw the two bodies and the tired Arnest, who is barely looked at her. Understanding what has happened she simply decided to drop the topic. "I'll...send for a team of soldiers to clean the bodies Headmaster. Will there be anything else?"

"No...no Assist- Page...I murdered two good men, and scared off the dignitary of a powerful House, all to save the life of 5 children, and two of my...friends. Now we wait...to see if I had damned us all."

Rahvi glanced up at the gole in the ceiling where Steven had made his grand entrance. He didn’t seem overly perturbed, his formal dress barely ruffled and his speech still perfect. He did stash some food though. Rahvi grinned at that. Soon eveyone would have a ready supply of snacks for Rahvi to lay claim to, one way or another. He greeted the griffin-catbird-and started on breakfast. Passing him the coffee, Rahvi leant forward to start interrogating him about his exploration. Now she had food in her belly, she was ready to start an expedition of her own.

Ella seemed more awake than everyone else, a little scratchy around the eyes, but awake. Rahvi focused on shoveling as much food into her face as she could while the others chatted and met Karma. It didn't take long for talk to turn to the events of the night before. Rahvi's hand smarted, but she'd avoided thinking about the drama and she didn’t plan to start now.

Everyone's voices were strained, their smiles stiff. She doubted anyone had slept well at all. Except Miki, who had crawled into Rahvi's bed and curled up next to her like a cat. Rahvi figured she needed the sleep. She'd wake when she was hungry.

Jagton's laugh hung in the air and Rahvi swallowed loudly to dispel the silence that followed, reaching towards a salt shaker and sending it flying towards her. As she had discovered last night, her aim still left much to be desired. Catching it as it flew, sending sprays of salt down onto Ella next to her, Rahvi let her train of thought barrel into the future. It was about time to improve her aim. That was the whole point of coming to college, wasn’t it? Eating the last of her eggs-with salt-she swept some biscuits and fruit into her bag for later. "So does anyone know where our classes are? I think Steven figured out where they're not."

...Jagton was obviously terrible at hiding his thoughts. A denial that specific might as well be a confession. Although on further reflection, Steven realized that if Jagton managed to hide his emotions, Steven wouldn't have known Jagton was having nightmares. Nevertheless, if Jagton didn't want it out in the open... but something had to be said...
"My teachers have said that combat always wounds the combatants, whether or not their body was harmed. Supposedly, making someone feel pain, along with ending another's life runs so counter to most people's conscience that even intending to resort to it can break people. I was taught that if it was necessary, and there were no other options I could reasonably think of at the time, then I have no obligation to regret using force.

...In retrospect, I was as much of a cause of the fight as Thal. I could have said something to calm him down, or at least hold off on speaking in while surrounded by unsympathetic company. Instead I provoked him, causing him to use lethal force in retaliation. I could have got you killed...

Anyways, I found the testing grounds. Past that is most likely illusion-induced hallucinations."

"Ok thanks. Now to train in combat because I know for a fact there is going to be more situations like that." Jagton replied.

"Like if you really examine it attempted murder happened in the first 2-3 hours of us being here. So I doubt we are just gonna have good times all around." Jagton's eye twitched but barely when he said this. He was beginning to have his mood swings. This will be fun...

Ella smirked as she brushed the salt away.

"Hey watch it Rahvi, you might be the next to get a pie in the face," she said.

She listened to Steven try to blame himself for everything that had happened. She rolled her eyes and tried to play it off like the fight was no big deal, but she was a bit worried about the repercussions. Rich people could get things done, bad things. Her father knew how to hold a grudge.

"Come on, Steven. Don't worry so much. I can't help myself sometimes, I just get upset and my mouth goes wandering off, getting me in trouble. But a bully is a bully. He is who he is, and whatever your magicy talent is," she waved a hand at him with animated fingers to emphasize, "isn't going to change that. Bullies deserve to be called out. If he'd kept his tongue inside his mouth, then nothing would've happened. That who's responsible, HE did this. We were just doing the right thing. Our teacher, the pregnant Wastelander, shouldn't have to deal with that kind of disrespect. It was bullshit, he deserved what he got. And the pain thing. Life is pain Steven. It's not worth living if you don't learn anything, and pain is a great teacher, maybe the best. We all inflict it, no matter how hard we try not to. We just have to make it count, and say sorry when we don't mean it."

"Oscar, if you're worried about being attacked, I'd recommend looking up blindness and quick movement spells. Running from a battle is usually safer than fighting unless you are much stronger than your attacker.

Ella, thank you for your concern, but... never mind. Thank you."

"Don't worry I will after I catch the teapot under the rainbow," Jagton replied being hysterical. Then his face was blank with no emotion. He was just staring at the wall past Steven.

...Teapot? Rainbow? Anyways...
"After classes, do you all want to explore the school with me? I now have emergency rations, and I can probably find some rope, lamps, snowshoes, matches, waterskins, and a compass somewhere."

"Yeah, sure..." Jagton replied with no emotion as if he was paying all his attention to some majestic creature. All of the sudden Karma came rushing in as if to finish her breakfast with Jagton. When she saw him she did some kind of sigh. She walked up to Jagton and started pecking at his head.

"Ok! I'm back!" He told the griffin and she got the bored face of and had a happy face again.

Rahvi grinned over at Steven. Did she want to go exploring? What sort of a question was that? Of course she did. "Explorijg has been at the top of my list for a while now."
And if she was honest, spending more time with these new friends away from the turmoil and terror of Thal was pretty high up there as well. They needed some time to bond without the constant threat of racist pricks, and hopefully build some trust in the school and the other students again.

While Mikida slept, the pair of goblins who had delivered her school supplies were trying to open up her personal chest using everything they can from lock picks to just attempting to bite the thing open, making a loud clanking sound as they did.

As the group chatted, the First years had a visit from the teacher of the fifth years, Rilker Pauelus. The orange haired mage came through the door, and without hesitation, gave Ella and Jagton a firm slap on the back as he laughed and laughed.

"Your very first day and already you've made a very powerful enemy! That's the spirit the built the Border Empire children, well done, well done!"
