My heart belongs to the ocean
To the deep blue sea
For all the lost souls
Who were once alive and free

Thalassa Bay: a small, idyllic coastal town where nothing much happens. Sailing and fishing are the towns only real industries; the ocean is its life and soul. It was founded by seafarers centuries ago, and is still thriving with them to this day. The town was built to withstand a thousand storms, whether they bring waves, lightning or floods; many of the original buildings still stand strong. There has not yet been a hurricane or storm that this little village has not been able to weather.
In current times, one such storm rolls into the bay: a true tempest. Winds howl, trees crack, sails are torn and water beats against the windows of the townspeople's homes. It's the most powerful storm in Thalassa Bay's recorded history.
After the destructive gales and crashing waves subside, the townsfolk emerge to assess at the aftermath. To their surprise, there are strangers washed up onto their sandy shores, weak and soaked to the bone. They are clearly not from Thalassa Bay: their tattered clothes are unusual, their languages, accents and mannerisms are wildly different from each other, and they are all very, very confused. None of them can remember where they're from, how they got here, or who they really are. All they have are their names, and the last date they remember...

And it's not this year.

So yeah, this idea is still in development! Basic premise is that after a massive storm hits this seaside town, Thalassa Bay, people are found washed up on the beach. However, they are not your regular survivors of shipwrecks: they are all people that have been killed in storms, lost at sea, or died on the ocean throughout history. They are from all over the world, from any time period, any seafaring craft, any cause of death as long as the sea played a major part in it. When they wake up, however, they have no recollection of their past lives except for one date: the date when they were killed on their fateful voyage across the great big blue. Your characters can either be one of those brought back to life, or a Thalassa Bay resident.

I could use some help fleshing out this concept, if anybody is willing to brainstorm with me! The main problem I can see is that I don't really know what the entire point of it would be... Is there a way for them to return to their timelines? Are they just going to live out their lives in the modern world? I've fallen in love with the idea of this being a roleplay, but I just don't know what the goal of our characters would be.

I've never actually been a GM for a roleplay before, so I would greatly appreciate any assistance~!

Oh yesssss this is a good one hahahah
As for motive, maybe the people want to figure out how they died so that they can pass on. Like, they don't remember the details about dying, but stuff that happens and stuff they see triggers memories and when they finally piece it all together, they can go to the afterlife. I dunno, I thought that up on the fly hahaha
