The Secret Life of a Coterie

After the funeral dinner, Mystique sat quietly through a long boring spiel that was called the Reading of the Will of her rich grandfather. Two sisters, 2 brothers and five cousins got their shares of the wealth whether it was a house, sports car and/or money. It was now Mystique’s turn. An envelope was given to her which had a single key in and a note inside. Her siblings crowded around her to see if she got something better since Mystique was the favored grandchild.
“Give me some room to breathe! You wouldn’t understand the note anyways.” She replied in an irritated voice as she tucks the envelope and will in her purse.
The argument went on for several minutes until the lawyer cleared his throat.
“If anyone argues about the will, that person will forfeit $10,000 per 15 minutes. Do you wish for me to void those checks?” he asks quietly.
Everyone went quiet then stood up to leave. The lawyer spoke once more
"If you wish to have your check signed, please stay seated. Miss Mystique, there is nothing more for you except the copy of will. You may leave now." The lawyer spoke as he held out an envelope to her.
Mystique smiled through her tears as she accepts the envelope. She was glad to leave alone to catch her own thoughts. She began to make her plans as she walked to her waitressing job. Things will go better for her now. But she would wait for a bit before she quits. Her lease was due to be redone and she was sure it was going to go up once more and her friend, Amy, wanted her apartment anyways. Her so called family was still sniffing around to see if she would give in and tell what she had got in the will.

Two weeks later…
Mystique walked into the restaurant with her notice, much to the disappointment of her boss. She also, told him that if he made it rough on her, that she would walk out. He simply told her to leave. Mystique held out her hand for her check. He grudgingly handed it over and was given the apron.
She only stopped to ask Amy to stop by after work as she cleaned out her locker.
Time passed quickly as Mystique went through her clothing and deciding what to take with her. Most of it would be left for Amy if she wanted to buy it or if Amy didn’t want any of it, she would give it to a children’s benefit that was coming up.

Mystique answered the door and told Amy that she was leaving. They made a deal about the furniture and whatever was left over. During the talk, the landlord stopped by to renew the lease. Amy talked the landlord down and extended the lease to a 5-year lease. She rented a move it all truck and was packed to leave by the next day. She was happy and slept well.
Tomorrow will begin her new journey. The first stop would be the bank.

An hour later, she went into the bank and was directed to the bank director, Micheal Lewis. He greeted Mystique warmly and took her to the vault. In the vault was a door and inside the room were other doors. He took Mystique to a small room with a cart.
"It is best for you to get out of town to this address which even I do not know. It has been sealed for 20 of the 25 years limit. I will repay you for the last of your rent of the room. It will be best if you closed out your account and leave today if at all possible. I can do that while you watch the men load your contents of the room. If you give me your vehicle key, my security will see about getting a proper vehicle for you. Will that be alright?" Micheal asked as he hurried Mystique inside the room.

"I have a large moving van. I hope that it will be satisfactory one for all of this." Mystique spoke softly as she looked about.

"Please accept my offer for it will ensure a safe start of your trip. There have been too many of your relatives attempting to get what little that you have. It would be the safest way to go. " Micheal spoke seriously.

"I would appreciate any help you can give me......

The discussion went on and Mystique made secret arrangements to leave the town without any farewells.

Mystique walked out of the bank with her money and was ready to go to pick up her new vehicle. There was a small girl nearby that somehow looked homeless. She walked up to the girl and smiled.
"Are you lost? What is your name? Do you know where you live?" She asked quietly as she knelt beside the girl.

"Are you talking to homeless brats now?" a cousin came up to them.

"I doubt that you have enough intestinal fortitude to inquire about anyone that does not benefit you. With that said, Thomas, move right along for I won't benefit you at all. " Mystique reached out for the girl's hand to lead her away.

takes Mystique's hand and smiles Hi there I am Gwendolyn Michelle Wilson but call me Gwen. I have nowhere to live since my former family passed away.

"Oh dear. I'll take you with me. Do you have any clothes or anything? How old are you? I'll find out about adopting you." Mystique spoke as she lead Gwen to the moving van.

Gwen shows she wears a white t-shirt, a pink knee-length jumper dress, white tights, and black Mary Jane shoes with a golden buckle on each shoe.
Gwen said, "I am only 5 years old."

"Let's see about getting you a proper seat and make you mine. Do you know your birthday?" Mystique picks Gwen up and sits her inside the truck. She pulls the belt around her then gets in herself.

"I see. Let's go to the store and get you a seat. I don't want you to get hurt." Mystique spoke as she drove to the local store. She parked and went out to get Gwen. As they were walking, she asked
"I need you help to get the right seat for you. You also need some clothes and a birthday gift. Take my hand and we will walk together. Would there be anyone who would want you and you would want to live with? I need to know so I can do the right thing."

Gwen took her hand and said, "A wealthy family that loves kids, very friendly towards everyone, and gives kids like me a chance to be good. What do you mean by the right seat, if you don't mind me asking?"

"Well, the right seat is one that you would feel comfortable riding in for a very long time. I would suggest a tray so that you can have something to put your book on or a coloring book on with a place for crayons. An Ipad would fit on the tray would give you some shows to watch. You might not like a certain color or like a specific color." Mystique spoke as got a cart with a car seat for kids to drive.
"Get into the car and you can pretend to drive."

Mystique smiles at Gwen then goes to where the car seats were.
"Let's pick out one and you can try it. Then we need to get some clothes for you which will be next."

"Good job. We will get the pink one that in in the box. You need to pick out 5 outfits while I get your socks, underwear and shoes. " Mystique spoke as she answers the phone.

Mystique came back and added several jeans and few more shirts. She picked up a small pull along suitcase for activities and a larger one for clothes. She had a few other surprises for her.
"Ready to choose a couple birthday presents? I was thinking of a doll or a stuff animal.... what are you thinking of?" she asked.

Gwen smiles, "That would be lovely. This is going to be great."
(Sorry I was offline a few days, my old router died, I am on a brand new 1 today.)

(Good to hear that you are back on!)

"Let's go. Don't forget clothes for your doll. Hop in the car and we'll be at the doll section in a couple minutes." Mystique spoke with a chuckle and a smile.
