The Vampire's Apprentice

Clancy stared at her, completely bewildered. Then he sighed. "Sometimes I think I have truly lost touch with humanity. In any case, now that the place is freshly cleaned, I have been thinking of doing some redecorating. Do you have thoughts on this?"

"None at all!" She declared. It were almost as if she were the one to have lost touch with reality and all that belonged to it. "A little spontaneity never hurt anyone. After all, what's life without something new now and again? A little adventure, hm?"

"I would hardly call moving the furniture around an adventure," Clancy said dryly, "but as you wish. Your room is open for you to do as you wish." He started up the stairs, still talking as he walked, expecting her to follow. "I will have a lengthy list for you to follow tomorrow."

She jumped up from the table after a moment and scrambled after her him, almost with a little too much enthusiasm. What could she say? Today had been a good day. A very, very good day.
"Sounds mighty fine indeed! Maybe I'll find something to put on those bare walls."

"I suppose so. I have never really put much thought to putting pictures on the wall. Just please try not to put too many holes in the walls," Clancy said. He glanced automatically toward his computer and paused. "What is that?"

"Hm?" There wouldn't be much point in pretending not to know, but she didn't have to explain it much outright. "Why garlic, of course," And since it so obviously looked like garlic, how could she ever have been lying? Her sarcasm was broken by her infamous unserious grin. "It looked dreary in there, so I thought you might like it."

"You got me a plant? For my office space?" Clancy clarified, stepping closer so cautiously one might have thought it was a poisonous snake. "What kind is it?"

"Evening primrose, I believe." Sitting in a small ceramic gray pot on his desk was just that, though as of the moment, it carried no flowers. It was still too early in the season, but come closer to summer, it'd begin to bloom.

"I see." Clancy crossed to his desk and sat down. He stared at the little plant and reached out, stopping just before touching it. "Why would you get me something like this?" he asked softly.

"It would seem most do," Clancy replied. He gingerly touched the pot the stroked the edge. "I... thank you." He studied the plant for a minute longer then cleared his throat and stood. "Now, where were we?" He asked briskly.

She smiled. "Somewhere around a list of things to do and not making holes in the walls, I believe."

"Yes, that is correct," Clancy nodded. "With the house clean, I expect you to keep it that way, but also, please cook and back at least once a day. I have found I rather like the smell. Also, I have a load of dry cleaning for you to take care of along with a few other things."

"Of course." Kitty remained attentive, following along with his words. Her baking? A nice smell? She'd hardly considered such a thing; it was rather amusing to hear. "Heya, Mr. McCleary,"

Clancy softened a little. "Yes, yes we are. As much as we ever were." Perhaps a little more, but no need to fill her head with ideas.

((It be the 1,000th post))

Kitty seemed to let go of some hidden tension at the words. "Right, then!" she exclaimed. "I'm glad." Though... there was something else sparking in her eyes; something curious. The sort of twinkle that got her into the deepest of trouble. But perhaps later, she'd bring it up.
