The Vampire's Apprentice

"Good. Now, it is growing late, you should clean yourself up and sleep," Clancy said. He glanced at Sam sleeping next to her bed. "Good dog."

Kitty lay across her bed, chin in her hands and bare feet waving in the air behind her. "What do you consider to be fun?"

"Hmm, most things have lost their flavor for me, but..." he thought about it for a minute. "Dancing. I used to love dancing and pool."

"Probably true, but you'd be surprised." She smiled lightly. "People are best at the most unexpected of things, sometimes."

Kitty pulled herself into a crosslegged position on the bed and asked another thing. "What is your outlook on life?"

Clancy considered the question. "Complicated since I am not technically alive," he pointed out. "Otherwise... primarily dull."

She didn't really need to ask why it was dull; seems like living for so long would become a little tedious after a while no matter what you thought of it initially. Yet there were other things... other things she wanted to ask on the subject, but she had chosen another inquiry just prior.

Kitty paused on questions for a moment to open one of the drawers in the nightstand and retrieve a note pad and her pencil, scratching down things in small print while they were fresh in her mind. She then set the pad aside on the bed and returned her attention to him, tucking the wood pencil behind her ear.

"Do you remember," she began, "a few nights back, when I had started to walk away and you stopped me?" The spark was back; fascination clear in her expression. "What was it? What was that power?"

"Ah, that? It was a bit of a combination," Clancy replied. "Being my familiar, I have a small amount of power over you directly, but also hypnotism. It is a bit complicated to explain, but the end result is the longer you spend with me, the easier it will be for me to control you, but since I do not practice it often with you, it will take longer to develop than it would with someone who does it often. Some prefer mindless slaves. I do not."

Kitty blinked. Another question? What would she ask?

Oh, yes. If there was any a time to ask this, now would be it.

She cleared her throat. "On a scale of one to ten... what is your favorite color of the alphabet? Mine is triangle."
