The Vampire's Apprentice

"Oh." He leaned forward to study it, forgetting about personal space for a minute. "Wicked!" He leaned back. "Just came by to see if you were okay. You know, what with disappearing boss friends and all that. And vampires, that's cool."

Kitty covered the bite again, rubbing gently. "Yeah, I'm alright. He's alive, too, so that's a plus." She shrugged, "Sorry I don't have any cookies this time."

She nodded, taking a seat on the couch again. "He's doing fine. You might come by later and talk to him." Kitty remembered something, but kept it to herself.

"Sure. By the way, I haven't told anyone, not that they'd believe me, but I won't and haven't. The twins still think he's a ghost, EJ thinks he's nuts, and Mum thinks he's eccentric and kind of hot which is," he made a face, "gross if I think too hard about it."

Kitty almost snickered, thinking of Mrs. Mooney and Clancy together. The faint grin didn't fade too much. "Thanks for keeping the secret," she said. "Still, you might want to take it up with Clancy himself. He promised you could live, but better safe than sorry, am I right?" Her humor was a little skewed this morning, but then, wasn't it always? "

"After sunset. Maybe around eight or nine." She replied. "There's a chance he'll be up late again, but at least you'll be here."

"Cool, I'll be here. Should I be prepared in case he's hungry? Like should I get ready like if I'm donating blood to a drive?" he asked.

"I highly doubt it." Kitty appeared amusedly concerned. "But you can if you feel you need to. Do me a favor, though, and stay sober for the afternoon."

"I'll try, but I haven't touched it since yesterday in case you needed me," he said, rubbing his neck again. "It ain't easy."

"Just don't hurt yourself." She smiled lightly. "Did you want to stay for a while, or was there something else you needed to do?" The girl wasn't opposed to him staying, but all she had going for her in the moment was finishing some books. Nothing super exciting.

"I can stay if you wanted. The twins are at school right now and it's just EJ at home, so, you know, unless you want me gone," he shrugged.

"It's probably better here than with EJ." Kitty patted the couch seat beside her, taking the book off it. "Nothing very interesting's going on, though. Good place for naps, if you're still into that sort of thing." A wry smile crept over the girl's expression.

Norville grinned and plopped down next to her. "Yeah, it's cool, but not right now, I don't think. What's that?" He pointed to the book she held.

"A book." Kitty stated the obvious, then revealed the cover. "The Count of Monte Christo." She read. "It's not bad, but a bit too historical for my taste. I picked it up at random."

"Hm?" She raised a brow in surprise. "You've read it? Forgive my bluntness, but you didn't strike me as the type to pick up a book for enjoyment."

Kitty mentally pinched herself. She was starting to sound like Clancy.

He shrugged, taking no offense. "Sure. The teacher talked about it in school in like... fourth or fifth grade as a point of reference, so I picked it up."

"Huh. That's pretty neat." Her head bobbed in approval, and she brushed a stray curl behind her ear. "So, are there any books you do like the ending of?"
