The Vampire's Apprentice

Clancy raised his brow, looking very Clancy-like in that moment, and utalized the pad and paper. "And why would that be?"

"He came by earlier today to see if I was alright, and he wanted to know how you were doing, but you were asleep." Kitty answered. That was as close to the truth she could come without making it sound a lot worse. Besides that, she was trying to avoid the fact that she was the one who brought it up to Norville in the first place.

"Uncharacteristic of you." She glanced over his handwriting again, then at him. "You positive you're alright?"

Clancy lifted a hand uncertainly before replying, "I am rather shaken and weak and currently doubting myself. It was a..." He broke off, staring at the paper. His hand trembled slightly, but he finally finished the thought. "Childish trap I fell into. I should have known better, and now I doubt myself."

Gently, Kitty reached out to grasp his hand. "You don't have to beat yourself up about it. Just because you slipped doesn't mean you've lost it. Everyone makes mistakes, even if they know better."

Clancy smiled and squeezed her hand gently. "Thank you," he whispered.

Norville knocked on the door instead of ringing the bell.

"Just keep it in mind, and try not to eat anyone," Kitty grinned, then released his hand and went to answer the door.

Norville stood waiting, hands firmly in his pockets. He looked a little please and shaky, but he smiled when Kitty opened the door. "Am I late? Or early?"

Norville came in and nodded to Clancy, who simply watched him. "Alright, you look pretty upright and good," he grinned. "Man, you had Kitty scared good, sir."

Awkward dread. A strange mixture of emotions, yet that was exactly what Kitty felt in the moment. Maybe it was all in her head, but with vampires, one could never be too sure.

Clancy raised a hand and indicated for Norville and Kitty to come closer. Norville stepped forward instantly and knelt as if to a king. Clancy did not correct him, but Kitty would probably recognize the flash of amusement in his eyes before it was replaced with sternness.

Kitty stuffed her hands into her pockets and went to stand beside Norville, glancing briefly at the genuflected figure out of the corner of her eye before looking back to Clancy.

Clancy stared at Norville until the lad finally spoke out of the sheer desire to end the silence.
"I guess I am here to promise servitude so I don't have to be killed," Norville half stated, half questioned. "I don't really want to die, and Kitty seems to like you okay, so if it's a choice, I'd rather be like your slave thing than a dead thing."
Clancy carefully wrote something on his pad and handed it to Kitty. "Is this boy serious?"

Kitty's eyes closed in a silent groan at Norville's words. She opened them when Clancy began to write, then took the notepad when he passed it to her, also snagging the pencil. The girl wrote, "I haven't the foggiest idea. It's news to me," then offered it back with a slight shrug.

Clancy gave a slight sigh before speaking, his voice still rough. "I can barely keep one Familiar busy. I have no need of two. I trust you will not speak. If you do... It will be most inconvenient."
Norville nodded soberly. "Cool, man, I follow. Don't worry, I won't talk, not to anyone, I swear it on my... uh, I promise."
Clancy resisted the urge to roll his eyes. "Good. Now please cease your genuflection,"

Well won't this be a fun discussion later. Kitty couldn't tell if the thought was sardonic or serious. She tugged on Norville's sleeve to pull him upright. "So, now that, that's been cleared, is there anything else that needs discussed while we've got the time?"

"Uh, no, I don't think so. Need any blood?" Norville asked. "I mean, I can't bring cookies, so..."
"Not right now, thank you," Clancy said politely then caught Kitty's eye and jerked his head toward the door. Out with the guest, please.

Definitely going to be discussing this later. Kitty once again tugged on Norville's sleeve. "Best you go home now. It's getting pretty late, after all."
