The Vampire's Apprentice

"You are very welcome," Mrs. Turner smiled. She reached into her desk and pulled out an envelope. "He also asked me to give you this, but you are not to open it until after lunch, which he has already arranged." She looked at the two boxes. "Would you like to borrow a bag for that?"

"Did you get a new pet?" she asked, glancing at the tiny carrier in amusement as she opened her bottom drawer. She pulled out a large canvas handbag with a picture of a strawberry on it and handed it to Kitty. It was large enough to hold everything Kitty had collected so far. "Mr. McCleary also asked me to tell you your lunch arrangements, when you were ready."

"Ah, no. I've been running around all day following notes he's left behind." She explained, glad to have something to put her gifts in. "It's very fun. Maybe I'll tell you about it sometime."

Mrs. Turner looked pleasantly surprised, but she did not make a big deal of that. "I would like that. It sounds interesting," she agreed calmly. She handed Kitty a thin envelope. "He got you a reservation at the Blue Haishi this afternoon for their lunch hour, and this is your claim ticket." SHe checked her watch. "You have about twenty minutes."

"Best be early rather than late." Kitty examined the envelope as she stood. "Thank you so much for the gifts. It really does make me happy."

"You are very welcome," the woman smiled as she walked Kitty to the door. "Please remember, my door is open whenever, and if ever, you should desire to talk about anything at all. Though I would love to hear more about this birthday scavenger hunt!"

She flashed a smile, finding her way back to the elevator and continuing downward. Now, what was this place she was meant to go?

The Blue Hashi was a fine dining restaurant specializing in sushi and hibachi only about ten minutes away from the office buildings. There were noisy seats at the hibachi grills with the dynamic chefs performing amazing feats with their knives, or there were quiet booths for those who were not as interested in the show and the blazing pillars of fire.

Each moment in this day became better than the one before. Kitty wanted to stay and savor them, but also to know what came next in the grand adventure she had been thrust towards. She intended to experience this to its fullest whilst she could and found a place to watch the show.

And what a show it was! The server paid special attention to her and assured everything - including the tip - had already been taken care of. All she had to do was enjoy the place to the fullest as the server made certain she had the best seat. The chef truly was a talented artist, and all of the food was absolutely amazing.

By the time she finished, it would be time to fetch Sam, but there was no rush.

Happy and full of love, that's how she felt. Kitty ambled in the general direction of where Sam was, more than content, and looking forward to seeing her hound again. The note was almost forgotten about; she recalled its existence only a minute before she found herself at where her doggy pal resided, and made the decision to open it after she regained Sam.

Sam looked like a new dog as he came out. If a dog's fur could shine, his would be gleaming like a small sun. He pranced around Kitty happily, all dressed up in his new collar and leash. There was nothing the salon could do for his scars, his missing tail, or the badly docked ears, but he was as clean could be with clipped nails and even brushed teeth. He seemed to know he looked good and was showing off for Kitty. The attendants assured Kitty he'd been good - apparently surprised at how well he'd handled everything - and welcomed her to bring him again any time.

"Are you sure this is my dog?" She joked. "I barely recognize him!"

Kitty bequeathed head pats and ear-scratches. "Lookie there; you're all clean and stuff! Ready to see where else there is to go?"

By now you will have logged in quite a few walking miles and you must be tired. Why not spend some time indoors and relax by skimming through your favorite media? The bookstore allows dogs, so take the hopefully less smelly hound with you and relax. At four in the afternoon, you will have one last place to go, one final destination to enjoy. This one will hopefully bring as much pleasure as fear.
Find my note in the bookstore to know where to go next. It is waiting with my most famous cousin.

"Hmmm...." Kitty was intrigued. "Come, Sam. We have a bookstore to visit!"

He was quite right in his assumption of her exhaustion. Though she frequently did a lot of walking, this was considerably more than typical. Perhaps she might find some time to rest there and figure out how to set up the camera.

Plus books. Even better~

Sam trotted along marrily, his head high. Well, high for him. His natural build meant he tended to keep his head down in a bullish stance. He went right to the door and looked up at Kitty. Did he get to go in?

Kitty looked back down at Sam, holding the door for him. It was alright to come inside this time. She waved him inward.
