The Vampire's Apprentice

Norville grinned and walked his awkward way to the goats and leaned on the fence. Once the goats realized he didn't have any food, they ignored him and wandered around aimlessly, as far as he could tell.

Kitty returned a minute later with some feed in her hands. She shewed it to Norville, an accomplished smile on her expression.

"Nice," Norville praised.
The goats perked up, and several of them came ambling over. She had treats! Several baby goats slipped through holes in the fence and came bounding over to her.
Same looked each one over with great interest.

Kitty knelt down for the baby goats and let them have some of the treats while Sam inspected them. She was happy. She felt happy, and it showed.

Norville carefully took two pictures in case one did not turn out, and his second picture captured the moment one of the bolder of the baby goats tried to climb up on Kitty and eat her hair.
Another climbed into her lap, and a third tried to get up on her shoulders. She was a climbing hill with treats!

"Eeek!" She squealed playfully, laughing. "Since when was I for climbing on?! This wasn't what I was feeding you for!" Kitty continued to giggle.

"Do you need help?" Norville laughed ad he watched her get mobbed.
Sam found a kid that didn't mind getting licked and stood happily licked the long ears.

Norville hobbled over and started gently pushing the kids aside. "Come on, little guys! You have to let a lady breathe." He gave Kitty a hand and pulled her up to her feet. "There you go!"

She was grinning from ear to ear, her teeth showing in a smile. "The're so cute though! I mean, look at the little bandits! Making out will all my treats!"

"And they still want more," Norville snickered as they bounced all around Kitty and stood on their hind legs. "They are like puppies almost!"
One of the biggest kids headbutted Sam's hip. Sam let out a startled yelp and danced in a circle, trying to figure out what had happened. He growled at the kid but seemed uncertain how to go from there.

"They're adorable!" Kitty replied, reaching down to rub one of their faces. "Look at these cute little ears! You sure Clancy would be unhappy if we brought one with us?" She looked up at Norville, still joking around.

Norville pretended to think. "Well, it is summertime, and he is asleep for most of the day... Maybe if we could hide it while it sleeps at night?"

She hissed with laughter. "He'd smell it, though. Or hear it. Hear it's heart beating. Ah, if only it were as simple as convincing him there's nothing there. I bet we could do it sometime... maybe... probably not." Kitty shrugged. "He's not easily convinced when it's clearly a lie."

Norville shrugged. "He's probably used to lies, the telling of and the receiving." He looked up thoughtfully. "You know... depending on how old he is... he might have been around for the civil war. Do you think he took sides in that?"

"When was the Civil War, again?" She asked, glancing towards Sam to make sure he hadn't gotten into some trouble.

Kitty kept her feet planted and wouldn't let Sam get farther than the leash allowed. She thought about the number for a bit, mumbling to herself. "Two-thousand... nineteen... eighteen.... No, I don't think so. That's almost two-hundred fifty years ago. A little too far back."
