These troopers are known for Special Operations and for providing orbital support when needed. Commonly operating under teams of five, each soldier takes a special role in each squad:
- Support; Carrying a Sniper Rifle and a M6C Magnum, the Support Role is designed to hang back and provide the team with expert sniper cover and also serves as the team's Reconnaissance.
- Assault; Carrying a MA37 Assault Rifle and a M6C Magnum, the Assault Role serves as the front-line member of the squad, firing on squads of enemies with the support of the other squad-mates.
- Heavy; Carrying a M41 Rocket Launcher, a M6C Magnum and various demolition equipment, the Heavy is the one with the "blow stuff up" attitude as they specialise in eliminating vehicles, high armoured targets and setting charges on important Covenant objects and doors.
- Medic; Equiped with a M6C Magnum only, and med-kits, the Medic is responsible for keeping the team healthy during operations.
- Squad Leader; Armed with a Marksman Rifle and M6C Magnum, the Squad Leader is the one who leads the team and reports back to UNSC command. They provide the mission debriefing and ensure that the team stays in order during each mission.
