Blind|FoldThe first thing you need to know is that there's things out there. Beyond our world, beyond our knowledge. Maybe it's something you've heard of in stories that you know can't possibly be true. Maybe it's something you had a dream about - or a nightmare. Maybe it's something you can't wrap your mind around at all, something that defies perception itself. If you can imagine it, it's probably out there. If you can't imagine it, it's probably out there too. The second thing you need to know is that there's places where they can get in. A Fold is what we call a place where one of these places or things or whatever just up against what we know - our space, our time, our reality. Those places get kind of wrinkled a little bit, and if they rub together too much, the fabric thins and things can start coming through. You better believe that's not a good thing. You would think there would be something to stop them. Some sort of secret government agency, right? That's us. The thing is, usually when people imagine a secret government agency that shuts down unimaginable horrors, they're thinking of the best and the brightest, the highest technology available, rooms full of well-stocked equipment. Those people - well, they've probably never actually worked for the government. Technically we have an equipment room. It doubles as a weight room. And a supply closet. At some point, someone carefully organized all the shelves - alphabetically. So, if you want "ballistics ammunition," it's going to be right above the boxes labeled "ballpoint pens," and that's assuming we haven't run out. Management has ordered more. It'll be here in six to eight weeks, assuming no further budget cuts. As far as people, sure, we've got some really smart people. It's just that some of them are kinda broken. Some of them are a lot broken. It happens, after a while, when you're going through portals to esoteric unfathomable dimensions to try to cut them off before they get into the world. Sometimes, you leave parts of yourself behind. Sometimes, you pick up parts of other things. People get a little weird, when they've been with the organization for a while. It'll probably happen to you, too, if it hasn't already. That's not necessarily a bad thing. We're good at making do with what we have around here, and we've come to appreciate those weird bits that get stuck on as just one of the things that we have. Jacqueline over in Search has a plant growing out of her eye and can see underground root systems. Bruno in Sever had six counts of possession, but, you know. We Don't Talk About Bruno. You get used to it. You can get used to anything around here. Let me take a minute to tell you about the organization charts. We've got two main divisions: Search and Sever. Since this is a government organization, they're technically the Authorized Scouting, Research and Certification Division and the Control and Closure Operations Specialists, but, you know. Everyone calls them Search and Sever. The Search teams are the ones that go out there first. They'll be the ones hitting those unexplored areas, getting a very first look at whatever is out there, and trying to make it back with enough information and enough of their faculties intact that we can send someone out and do something about it. The Sever teams? Well, they're out for blood - or ichor, or ectoplasm, or whatever it is that leaks out of the Folds. Their goal is to go in there, put a stop to whatever is trying to get across, and then get out and lock the door behind them. Now, organization is all well and good, but being a government agency, we're pretty much always shorthanded, so what that means in a practical sense is we're often sending in a team composed of both groups, to do as much as we can in one shot. No one likes going in blind, but if we're on an apocalyptic timer, we sometimes just don't have a choice. We've also got the site staff, of course. Your basic boring people who don't cross the borders - though we all know the Emergency Shutdown Protocol, just in case. Accounting, administration, all that. People like me. Oh, did I not introduce myself? Harry Township. Okay so technically it's Harold, but no one on my side of seventy goes by Harold. Can you imagine Harold Potter and the Chamber of Secrets? I didn't think so. I'm the administrative assistant. That means I fill out paperwork, but have to find someone else to sign off on anything. Mostly, though, my job is to know where things are. Ballpoint pens? Third shelf on the left in the equipment room. Rifle? They're all out right now, but Dave from Accounting goes deer hunting on weekends and keeps one locked in the trunk of his car. Dave from Accounting? Office 389-A, he'll be in at 9:17. Yes, I know he's supposed to be here at 9 like the rest of us. Management lets it slide because he actually got the government to sign off on that grant last September. Okay, hopefully I've covered everything pretty well, but if you've got any questions, feel free to ask - and if I don't know the answer, I'll check with management for you. I'm sure we can find someone who'll have the information you're looking for. So, now that we're done with that, let's fill out those forms:

A quick little OC on this one: You're part of an underfunded secret government agency that goes through portals to weird places where things are very strange. There's gonna be a lot of strange stuff out there, maybe a little horror. If you (the writer) have any specific triggers or phobias that you'd like me to avoid, just let me know and I will do that. If you don't want to share publicly, you can DM me on site or on discord. I want this to be fun for everyone, and while I very much look forward to freaking out the characters, I don't want to do the same to the people behind them. I will be hard limiting character strengths and special abilities - you get one, or you can be a normie and pick one up later. The organization is meant to be underfunded and underpowered, but with a lot of room for characters to grow through active RP. Your CS can be any style, but please make sure to include all the information in the interview above. If you just want to copy/paste the interview questions and answer them, that's totally fine by me. You can also add more information about your character if you have more you'd like to say. If you have any questions, feel free to ask - either here, by DM, or on discord. |
