How Green Becomes Wood

"He'd better not have gone to find food without me," Xander scowled. He didn't want to show his concern. They were in a public space with a lot to see and do. Alec was probably fine, just got distracted. That was all. He glanced at Daizi. "Well. Now what?"

"Now we wait, unless you have a secret twin telepathy you've never told us about," Daizi said.

Dark, meanwhile, went off looking while he continued to push the stroller around, "Ivy-Qadira, do you see your brother anywhere? Where is Alec, where did he go?"

"Nope. Just a strong feeling if he's in trouble, which does not apply when just lost," Xander groused.

Just then, a voice came over the speaker. "Dark-Wahid family, Dark-Wahid family, please come to the lost and found. Your son is waiting for you." The announcement repeated in Arabic.

Xander looked toward the speaker. "Found him," he remarked.

Daizi put her hand over her mouth and laughed, "I'm never letting him live this down!"

Hearing the announcement, Dark only shook his head and turned around to reunite with Xander and Daizi. All the while, he griped to Ivy about how foolish her brother was. Then he looked at his other relatives and said, "Do you know where the lost and found tent is? I saw a first-aid tent, I presume it is nearby."

"I think it was near the entrance kind of by the first-aid," Xander said. "I'm not positive, but that's a good place to start."

The lost and found tent was, indeed, near the entrance, close to the boldly marked first-aid tent. It was fairly small, but well shaded. The two people working at the tent, a man and a woman, were talking to someone about a pair of lost sunglasses. Behind them were several well-marked tubs, boxes, and crates. What had started out as a clearly marked organization system had obviously degraded over the day, with larger items draped over the table or set on the floor. There was even a guitar.

In the corner sat a familiar red-headed teenager with his red covering still on his head, humming to himself as he sorted through a couple of boxes of mixed items, putting them in their proper places.

The woman came over and smiled at Dark and Daizi respectfully, covered in a Hijab. "Hello. Are you looking to claim something? Or turn something in?"

The woman looked confused for a moment before realizing and glancing back toward Alec.

Alec had already heard Daizi's voice and looked up. "Hi, family!" he greeted them cheerfully. "I found the absolute greatest fatayer stall, and a place that sells the most beautiful art pieces!"

Xander narrowed his eyes. "You went out food hunting without me?"

"I was offered a sample, and there was no way I could say no after trying it. Besides, I needed to fortify myself to come find you guys," Alec said primly.

"It's great having identity twins," Daizi turned to tell her husband, "because as long as we have one of them, nobody can accuse us of stealing the other."

"That is very true," He agreed and then turned to look at his son, "Ya hamar, I am getting you a leash like your sister."

"It's not my fault you lot disappeared without me," Alec sniffed as he stood and brushed himself off. "Thanks for letting me stay here, Sarah!"

"You are very welcome. Thank you for sorting some things for us," Sarah said with a little smile. To Dark and Daizi, she said, "I am very pleased to have been able to reunite your family. Ma’a salama."

"All I did was step to one side to look at something, and when I turned back, you were gone," Alec said, watching Daizi curiously. "Thank you for the belt, Mama, I think. What's it for?"

Xander gave him a gentle cuff to the back of the head. "You'd better be able to tell me where the fatayer are."

Alec blushed and laughed, shaking his head. "I thought I had my phone! I had it right here," he told his father, patting his crossbody bag. "But I took it out to take a picture, and then... I don't know where it went. I hope you found it?"

"That's where it went!" Alec frowned. "How'd it end up there? I don't remember putting it there." He put it in his bag and zipped it up securely.

As the family started walking again, Alec hung back and drew Xander with him. "I found a beautiful gift for Ba. It's expensive, but I really think he'd like it! I was hoping, if you liked it, too, we could go halves. The biggest problem is finding it again."

Xander tried to shrug, but that wasn't easy on crutches. "Sure. We can go look. Think you can retrace your steps?"

Alec started recounting all the different stalls he'd seen.

Daizi slightly heard their conversation, so she gently took her husband's arm and walked him slightly further away to engage him in a discussion about food. There was a lot to choose from, but most importantly they needed to find something Ivy would agree to eat. As far as toddlers went, she wasn't picky, but she was still a toddler.

"The food stalls are mostly around each other, so we can go to different places," Dark said, leading them that way but keeping a much closer eye on one of his seventeen-year-olds, "But I would like shawarma. I miss real street food."
