Ancient Forest (1X1)

She shakes her head sharply. "Beating yourself up over it isn't helping any at all. You are worrying those who care about you. You are what you are. Hating yourself for something you can't control is just cruel to do." She says and gets to her feet and starts to walk away.

He said nothing, only dropped his head again as he couldn't stop thinking about her friends, couldn't stop imagining how they might be enraged with him for letting her go but keeping them to die.

Meanwhile, Orange stopped her with worry in his eyes, but also some sorrow. "I'm guessing he didn't listen to you either?"

She shakes her head a Orange. "He is so cruel to himself." She looks back at Red and shakes her head again. She wanted to help him but she didn't know how.

"I don't know what to do anymore. He's never acted like this. He was always the smart, fearless leader, that's why I looked up to him so much, and now he's just depressed. And I'm not the only one who's worried, clearly. There has to be a way to get through to him, there just has to be."

She nods a bit. "He can't keep doing this to himself." She marches back over to Red and sits down in front of him now. "You want to do right by them. Sent their bodies to their families. Then you need to focus on being there for your brothers. They need you. You are the oldest. The only one who can watch over them. You can't do that if you are here beating yourself up all day."

Red's expression didn't change, neither did his silence. He wasn't sure what to make of this, any of it. And he didn't fully understand what Sarah was asking of him. Send the bodies back to their families? He thought he could manage that, but he didn't know where their families were and already was anxious to how they'd react knowing the boys had died like this.

Orange started to approach, but Red flared up his wings to keep him back. He didn't feel quite right being around anyone, though he knew they were worried, he just didn't want to say it in case it only made matters worse.

Sarah refused to move as she stared at him. "Why are you doing this to yourself? And to your family? " she shakes her head.

He was quiet for another minute before standing and spreading his wings. "I'm sorry. I just need a moment to clear my head." With that he shot up into the air, flying off somewhere. By the looks of it right now, he was headed towards the front of the ruins? Wouldn't exactly be easy to be alone there with all of the brothers running around.

She stands up as she watches him go. She shakes her head a bit. "Selfish." She grumbles.

Orange watched him then shook his head and walked off, inside he was surprised to be disappointed in his idol. But he couldn't believe how Red was acting, he had never been like this before. It worried him, but how could they fix it?

Red flew off towards the village, flying through the trees instead of above them just to be safe. He flew to the further end of the village; well, further from the ruins anyway. He then rested in a tree, put his wings away, and just watched the tribespeople going about their day. Now he wished he could be like them, able to live without fear, without thinking that one little action or thought could change everything in their lives. He found himself trying to hold back tears as he dwelled on this longing.

Sarah shakes her head again. She wanted to help Red so much but what could she do. Shivering a bit she stands up and starts to walk back towards her little hut. Was she foolish for thinking she could make any difference here?

Red leaned against the tree trunk as he watched the people of the village. Despite knowing that they were living near dangerous spirits, they all seemed so happy. He was fighting back an urge to get closer to them, knowing he was safer remaining in the shadows of the forest.

Staying in shadow... seemed kind of like a metaphor for his life. He and his brothers always stayed on the darker side of the trees, preying on anyone who would come into their territory, while the innocent humans enjoyed the sunlight. Red wanted that light, more than anything, but he had no clue how to get it.

Sarah managed to make it back to the hut. Her ankle was throbbing by this point though. It hurt a but more than it had before.

She sighs though as she sits down and looks back the way she had come. She was worried about Red. She was worried about all of them.

The forest was almost silent now, there was hardly any trace of the brothers being around.

Meanwhile, as Red continued to dwell on this longing, he found himself climbing down the tree and approaching the border of the forest. He kneeled down and stuck a hand out into the sunlight, letting his skin absorb it for a minute before curling his hand up as if to grab some of the light, but when he pulled his hand back towards him and opened it up, it was only darkness. He sat cross-legged and continued to watch the tribespeople, somewhat happy for them that they got to enjoy the light like this.

Sarah remained in the hut as she tried to think about what to do to help Red. She felt lost. How do you help someone who is so lots to such pain? She wasn't sure.

Without realizing it, she had gotten up and started walking towards the ruins. Maybe she could find something, maybe.

By another compulsion, he stood up and got closer to the border between the dark and the light, to the very edge. He braced himself for attacks or screams as he let his feet cross the border and move out a few inches into the light. When he opened his eyes he looked around, part of him still waiting for one of the tribespeople to attack him to defend their village.

Sarah was in the ruins now, studying them once more.

A few of the tribes people had paused in what they were doing to look at him. None moved though as they were not sure what he wanted.

As he saw some of the tribespeople looking at him, he quickly closed his eyes again and took a step back. He seemed scared, only expecting the worst to come. He didn't even know what he'd do during this time in the sunlight. What if the tribespeople started questioning him, what could he say?

The tribes people just stared at him. Seeming unsure of what to make of this. A demon suddenly showing himself this way was never seen before. They didn't move for a moment as they just watched.

He soon enough couldn't take it, and he stepped back across the border, back into the shadows of the forest where he belonged. He was still where the gathered tribespeople could see him, though. Ignoring this, he sat cross-legged on the ground again and buried his face into his hands, feeling stupid for trying that. He would never belong to the light, he knew it. But at least he got a taste of it...
