Changes

Baldric followed suit, changing into a large white dragon, his form more that of an Asian style. His long body flowing through the air as a rumbling growl echoed from his chest.

Serina saw the look in Maelith's eyes but before she could react, the woman had done what she feared. She lunged forward but was too slow. "No!!!" The cry leaving her lips. Sheer panic and terror ran through her as she had never felt before as she watched Maelith fall.

It was the sight of Damien catching her that eased it but not by much. She had failed to protect Maelith. Had failed to keep the woman safe. This was getting out of hand.

The pair landed on a ledge a few yards from the opening where the two women would have came out on. Maelith still barely managed to get a handle on her laughter as she stared up at the rather angry dragon above her. He growled at her before transforming back into his human form, "You fucking cunt!" He roared at her, "How dare you take that sort of chance!"

All the while Maelith laughted so hard she was crying. In all honesty she had already said her prayers and had been ready to die. In fact she had expected it. Only his showing up had saved her and she laughted to keep from breaking down into terrified hickuping sobs.

Baldric shifted back to human as he landed on the cliff side near Damien and Maelith. He didn't say anything, his face expressionless.

Serina was moving as fast as she could to the pair, stumbling a little but keeping up right. She comes to a halt as she reached them. Ignoring the tremble in her body.

Damien got off the woman in a huff and stormed off. He was so angry his entire body shook from it and he could taste ash at the back of his throat. The killing earlier didn't help. He felt it was better to make himself occupied and went hunting for the female Maelith had effectively killed.

Maelith finally getting some control over herself sat up and wiped a hand over her forehead. His body heat had caused her to start sweating. She curled herself up into a ball slightly as she glanced over at Serina, "I would say sorry again but there isn't any reason to do so is there?" She bit her lip then stood slowly dropping her bag off her shoulders as she did. Maelith knew she didn't belong in this world and everything that had happened today simply proved it more and more.

Damien would find the womans body with ease then burn it to dust before flying back up to the others.

Serina watched Maelith. Reading her body language. They all told her more than what the woman was saying.

She moves to her suddenly and hugs the woman before pulling back. "Maybe it's time you met my mom." She smiles a bit.

"She has lived with a dragon after all her entire life." Her father spoke suddenly. Then nods. "It may be wise to go see her anyways."

Serina looks to Damien when he returned. "If we go to my parents home in the mountains ,it is secure and my mom can have company." Hoping to convince Maelith to stay with her mom where she would be safe and could actually learn a lot from her mother as well. Maybe ease some of what was troubling the other woman.

The already moody as hell dragon huffed at the trio but none the less gave in. He hadn't the energy to fight with them, "As long as food awaits us I'm fine," He prayed he didn't have to burn his home down as he glanced about slightly lost. No one had ever found his place of hiding before and it made him wish he had done more to them for daring to come so far into his territory, "I'll get her somethings together and find ya'll."

Maelith was surprised when she was hugged by the other woman. It surprised her so much that she didn't bother fighting when the suggested going to her parents' place and keeping her there in the name of safety. She was tired again like earlier and it could be seen in the slight bobbing of her head, "Serina, I need to sleep," She told her right before she zonked out leaning against the other.

Serina help the woman gently in her arms as she fell asleep. There was so much strength to this woman but her body was fighting her. She nods to Damien and looks to her father.

"Take us home. " She says. Her anger for him gone for now.

Baldric nodded surprised that his daughter was so protective of the human. He touched both their shoulders and then teleported them away.

They arrived at a small cottage that was set back into the mountain. Merely an entrance. Gardens of all kinds resided around the property in arrays of colors and smells.

A small woman that looked like Serina only older and with brown hair came running out the door. She nodded to her husband as if the two had already spoken and she knew what was going on.

Her eyes turn to Serina and the unconscious Maelith. "I have a bed set up and ready. Let your father take her. I need to see to you."

Serina nodded as her father stepped forward and gently picked up Maelith. They all headed inside. Once inside the large vast space of the home could be seen as another door opened up into a cavern that had been dug out of the mountain side. A fire was already going and food ready.

Maelith was gently set on a bed near the fire to keep her warm.

Damien tended to the various things he needed to before leaving his home. He had a large pack slung over his shoulder filled with things that would be needed for Maelith and himself. He had found her hair pin and tucked it safely into the pack fo things. Her bravery amazed him at times but also made his stomach role harshly.

Maelith murmured softly in an old fae language as she was laid on the bed. Her face contorted slightly as if in pain before it eased away. It was hard to tell how she was doing at this point.

Damien appeared some time later outside of the cabin. His expression was still slightly lost. In his hand he carried a pendent made from gold twisted around a ruby. He would have to tell his parents he wasn't home soon but just not yet he thought.

Baldric met Damien outside and nods to him. "Maelith is resting for now." He leads the other male through the cabin to the back cavern. Where Maelith was laying on the bed and Serina was being tended to by her mother.

It seemed completely normal for her mom to have to treat the girl's injuries and did it with much the same way Damien had. The older woman smiled to Damien and motions to the food that was still warm. "Get something to eat when you are ready." Her attention then when back to her daughter shaking her head and muttering something to the girl.

The dragon nodded slightly, "That's good," He managed as he followed the other without much question. His head and heart ached as he saw the frail looking woman tucked under the blanket near a fire. He wished he could have kept her from ever having to experience what she had today. He wanted to blame Serina but he knew it was just as much his fault if anything.

Gently he sat down at the table after being invited to do so and ate the food there slowly. In all the years he had known her he suddenly wished he was gentler, kinder even to the human girl that had saved him that blizzard eve. He closed his eyes as he remembered her brave as always facing down a half starved and angry dragon. He still had the stick she had thrown at him. Amazed by it he kept it and carved their story into it. He planned on giving it to her for Yule.

Maelith hummed in her rather fitful sleep. She managed to kick most of the covers off by the time she woke up panting softly. She felt like she had been running in place. Sitting up she looked around for every one.

By the time Maelith had woken up, Serina had finished with her mother and her treatments. Her intention was to square up with her father and get answers from him about all that was going on. Her mother though had seen the look in her eyes and refused to allow it.

Baldric didn't say anything and only maintained the fire before sitting down in a large chair away from the fire.

Lisa ,Serina's mother kept an eye on Maelith. Concern for her was clear in her mother's eyes. Serina sighs a little and was about to move to her feet when the woman woke up.

She moves to her bed side quickly, "Easy. No need to rush getting up." She smiles a little.

Lisa moved to the kitchen like area and moved back to the bed , handing the girl a warm cup of tea. "Drink this. It will help."

She shivered slightly as if she was cold as she pulled the blankets around her. When she spotted Serina she tried to smile only to find she was choking on tears that swelled up. It was all part of her coming to terms that she had killed another being. As soon as the other was close enough she leaned forward to lean against her gently, "What have I done?" She asked her softly, "I've never thought about killing some one and yet I did..." She accepted the cup that was handed to her and sipped from it slowly. Maelith had stared down at the woman as she felt to her death. The broken body seemed to be burned into her memory at this point.

Damien had looked up from his meal only to find his appatite gone when he heard Maelith. Getting up the male excused himself and thanked Lisa for the meal before heading outside. The cool air made him sigh as he found a place to site quietly for a while.

Lisa watches the male leave and follows him a moment later. She had been around dragons long enough to know the look in that male's eyes.

Once outside, she let's him know she was there before speaking. "Have you told her yet? That you love her?" The look in the old woman's eyes saw more than most.

Serina sat on the bed beside Maelith and wrapped her arms around her. "I know that this isn't easy to hear hun but you must not think of it as you killing but as you surviving. As you protecting. Do not hate yourself for surviving and protecting. " She spoke softly to the woman. She knew what Maelith now faced ,in her dreams and every time she closed her eyes. If she only could have taken that from her.

Maelith sobbed for some time before she wore heself out enough that she fell asleep again. The poor girl was just lost in a world that she knew existed but hadn't ever really seen with her own eyes.

Damien turned slightly to look at the woman, "It's not love, ma'am," he told her softly, "Simply I only exist because she demanded that I live. I'm already spoken for," It was one of the reason he had left his family so far away. He knew just as well as they did that they could find him easily but perhaps it was respect that kept them away for now. Maelith's cooking had been something he looked forward to along with that joyous smile as he found himself staring at her. They didn't love like lover but more like siblings. He had lost his sister when she was far too young and he saw her bountiful soul in the eyes of his dearest friend.

Lisa nods and smiles a little. "Even in the form of a sibling. Love is love and is very strong." She looks to the sky as if deep in thought as she spoke. "I was thrown into this world of monsters and all kinds of craziness in very much the same way Maelith was. I met my husband on a job. Nearly killed him actually but he wounded me first."

She shrugs a bit and looks to Damien. "I know of her condition but she is very strong. Her soul is very strong but I'm sure you already know all of that. I'm just an old woman speaking her mind. "

She regard Damien a moment then says. " If Serina ever changes form, we will draw her blood. The mixture of my blood and my husbands will have something stronger in it than any every seen. A way to possibly cure Maelith's condition. But it must be after her first shift. I'm not just human." It was like a wall coming down as a surge of energy flooded the area, coming directly from the old woman before disappearing. She smiles softly.

Serina held on to Maelith gently as she cried, letting the woman get it all out of her. It was okay for her to cry, Serina knew it was. Her first jobs, she cried. Her father had scolded her for such but hadn't punished her. Only showed her that it was just a job.

Baldric kept the fire going and only watched his daughter. Was it so soon that she would be thrown into all of this? To deal with his sister, there was no telling how to even begin with that female. He looks to the opening when he felt the energy change and knew his wife had revealed herself to the male. A bloodline very old and very strong. An energy worker or some would have just called her a witch back in the day.

Damien shrugged, "If blood alone could cure," He still had his doubts. After all it all hinged on possibilities and maybes that left him wishing his family had simply realized that the human was importaint enough to protect. The Iron Bloods as his clan often called themselves had gained their name from the ability to deflect most weapons. Magicly enchanted ones left them defenseless.

Once Maelith had drifted back into a deep sleep she found herself thousands of lifetimes before her own as she drempt. She knew these lives were hers and that she had lived each one with pride. Her name is this life was Cael. Cael had a foundness for humans and dragons. This foundness lead him to be blinded by the terrible acts the two races did to each other. Dragons burned down towns while humans hunted them. He found that a sect of hunters had started forging weapons out of women. One such woman had been his twin. Taelie. The weapons were able to change form into what the weilder needed and was soul bound to the person who used it. Taelie's soul was devoured by the weapon as was a fragment of Cael's.

She had slept for hours she realized as she shot up in bed muttering in a language that barely understood. Maelith was out of the bed and over to the pack that Damien had set near the bed in a matter of moments. It took little searching but she found the hair pin, "I think I know why this is all happening..." She murmured to herself more than anything. Her brown eyes stared down at the small red orb grasped in the dragon's mouth. Cael had been magically inclined but by no means a wizard or any such thing. He did an older kind of magic known as instinct magic.

Serina had refused to leave Maelith's side even after both her mother and father insisted that she get some rest as well. She refused. She would not leave the woman's side and so sat down beside the bed on the floor, keeping watch.

Baldric had left to see to the area and check on things with the hunters in the few hours that Maelith had been asleep. Her mother was making some more tea made. She had given a cup to Damien and one to Serina. Serina didn't touch hers, her focus was still on Maelith, watching the woman sleep.

When Maelith jumped up from bed suddenly and was talking in a ramble. She arches a brow and looks to Damien.

Damien arched a brow then glanced at what Maelith was doing, "Any one know what she was rambling about?" He asked. His knowledge of the old shared language between humans and dragons was strictly written only.

Maelith glared at him slightly, "Oh just give me a minute and I will explain," She glanced about then motioned for the pair to follow her outside. Once out in a nice little green patch she smiled and started etching a circle into the ground. Maelith alone could sketch and even add the important part to activate the hairpin's slumbering inhabitor but she lacked the magic to finish the deal. She hummed then bit her lip, "Magic user would be nice," She muttered as she sat back on her heels, "Taelie you could help you know," She grumbled at the hair pin.

The pin simply stayed quiet stuck in the ground slightly to where the dragon and the orb it held looked as if as a pair they were staring up into the sky above.

Serina and Lisa followed outside. Serina was shaking her head in confusion but her mother's eyes widen as she saw what Maelith was doing.

"I haven't seen this since I was a child." She nods to Maelith. "I may be able to help. Please step back."

Once everyone was say, her mother let her power out. The energy stretched and grew for a moment before wrapping around the item and activating the circle that had been drawn. The air became warm with the magic that was flowing through it. Lisa was murmuring soft words to the magic and the item.

Serina watched in amazement and realized faintly that her parents were keeping a lot of secrets from her.

Maelith blinked up at Lisa almost as if she didnt recongize her only to smile a moment later and back up to where Serina was. The human girl showed little sign of her exhaustion from earlier nor the mental discomfort. She grabbed Serina's hand, "You should hurry and make up your mind," The way she spoke wasn't like the Maelith Serina likely had come to know and care for but of someone who had lived ages beyond reason.

The magic allowed the hairpin to change form into a woman with long firey orange hair that curled and rebelled against the braid that held it. Her eyes were a rich green. A silvery tattoo of a serpent like dragon encircled her neck in the dragon's mouth was a red gem that seemed to have been set in the very ivory colored flesh of the woman. She was dressed in a green dress with silver accents that reminded on of leaves falling in the autumn day, "Cael," She narrowed that gaze on Maelith who smiled.

"Not any longer, Maelith is what this life is called," The language the spoke in was elegant and smooth for a moment before Maelith changed to english, "This is Taelie," She told every one, "A old dragon hunter who fell to her own magic."

Taelie rolled her eyes slightly then stepped from the circle, "At least I wasn't blind."

"Love is often blind," Maelith murmured, "Let's just say we need to find your old lover, Morty," Morty wasn't the dragon's name but it was the nickname Cael always called him, "I think someone else is looking for him as we speak and you know what will happen should that grumpy lizard be awaken."

All hell would break loose and the human world would know that the dragons existed restarting the old cycle of wars over again.
