Conley Brothers

Camila glanced back at the unicorn and smiled fondly, not just at the horses but the kids and Vlad too.
She kept on her way though back to her own wagon cart. She used to share with Felix vut finally had convinced him she needed more space since she was an adult now. By the time she got there though she was a bit pale and faint

-
Starnacht looked up at Vlad as they got back "where I sleep?"

Leon's wagon was at the end of Camila's, and he sat under the awning next to it in a chair, his notes spread out over the table. He glanced up in time to see Camila and frowned. "Are you feeling alright?" he called worriedly, moving to stand. Anyone else, and he wouldn't have looked twice, but this was Camila.

~~

"In the wagon with us. Will that be alright?" Vlad asked as he continued toward the wagon. It wasn't too much farther.

Camila shook her head a little, maybe she had pushed a bit too much. But she had healed worse injuries than that before. This felt..different somehow

--

He nodded a little "anywhere no light is good" he gave a nod. It was hard for him to be out in the light too much and had already been out much too long

Leon sprang from his chair and hurried over to her. "Let's get you inside and lying down," he said gently, taking her arm. She was so pale he was afraid she was going to crumple right there! He opened the door and guided her up the steps. "Easy does it."

~~

"Does the light hurt you?" one of the twins asked.
"Would you go poof?"
"Or turn to ash?"

"Those are not very nice questions," Vlad said.

The twins looked at him. "But good ones if he would."

He couldn't argue with that. "At least try to ask in a nicer way."

She held on to him for support getting inside where she did practically collapse into bed "I'll be ok..just..need rest" she said softly "healed too much" she tried to explain

--

Starnacht smiled "it is ok" he assured Vlad. "Light not hurt me just..uncomfortable" he wasn't sure of another word to better explain. "My eyes do not like"

Leon studied her worriedly. "Who was hurt so badly that you pushed yourself this far?" he asked. He couldn't remember the last time he'd seen her this drained. It'd been a long time. She was usually too controlled for that. He made certain she wasn't going to fall out of bed then turned to get her a glass of water.

~~

"Ah, yes, you are light sensative in that way," Vlad nodded. "We can work with that."

When they reached the wagon, Vlad indicated it with a wave. "Tim, Tam, please take Starnach inside while I put these two back out in the pasture."

The twins nodded and dashed ahead, briefly fighting over who got to open the door before finally opening it together.

"Felix got a new attraction... A boy with spines..I don't know what he is" she said. Feeling a little better just by laying down. "But...I've healed more than that before...it's so strange"

--

Starnacht reluctantly let go of vlad and followed the two identical people, he'd never be able to tell them apart. That was for sure.

Leon frowned unhappily as he offered her the water. "Then perhaps you should stay away. Or at least not use your abilities on him. Let him heal in the good old-fashioned way and keep it treated." Her turn rather worried him.

~~

"These curtains are really thick," said one as they pulled the velvety red curtains closed. "They will keep out all the light."

The other patted the bed at the far end of the trailor. "We sleep here often. Sometimes we sleep outside when it is nice."

"You should sleep here on the bench," said the first, indicating the long, somewhat narrow bench. "It is comfy!"

"But thin."

She nodded a little "I can do old fashioned but...poor thing...he needs someome consistent to take care of him" in other words. She would not leave well enough alone. She accepted the water and sipped a little

--

Starnacht nodded and smiled. These two seemed very nice and perhaps closer to his age too. "Thanking you" he said before sitting on the bench "are you Vlads children? Or like me?"

Leon eyed her unhappily. "You've already gotten attached to this poor creature, haven't you?" he asked unhappily. He sighed then gave his hair a dramatic flip over his shoulder. "Oh, very well, then! I shan't meddle! But you, sister dear, have to promise me that you will be very, very careful and not go visit him alone, or at least not without telling someone so they know to check if something were to happen, God forbid."

~~

The twins looked at Starnacht in confusion then at each other, They lifted their arms and compared milky whiteness to his blackness. "No, not like you," they decided, but not Vlad's babies, either. We are us!"

He's harmless Leon. Poor thing is just scared" she said setting the cup on her side table she sighed "But I'll be careful brother. I promise" she added, to satisfy him

--

He smiled shaking his head "I mean...he took you in to take care of you like he took me...same like that" he tried to explain better what he had meant

Leon smiled, satisfied. "Good. Thank you, my dear sister, and I am not saying he would hurt you on purpose, but the way this affected you, and if he is scared... there is no telling what might happen. I would rather be too much than not enough. Is that not how I live my life, darling?"

~~

"Oh, yes, he took us in and protected us," the twins said fondly.

She smiled "yes that's the most accurate way to describe your style. Too much" she teased him lightly, settling down more into her bed now. So tired. So so tired.

--

Starnacht smiled at this "then we are brothers now yes?" He asked "always want brothers. Now I have two? Yes?" He asked hopefully.

Leon smiled and rose. "You rest. Sleep. And try not to worry about this new fellow, alright?" He moved to the door slowly. "I'll be doing boring old finances just over in my wagon if you need anything."

~~

The twins considered, suddenly guarded. They were silent as they glanced at each other, but they still seemed to be talking. Then they looked at him. "Maybe," they said cautiously. "Friends now. Yes, friends."
One patted the bench. "You rest. We have to go take care of things."

She nodded a little "thanks Leon" she said, rolling over and already falling asleep. Perhaps it would so her good to have a project and maybe Felix had done this on purpose so she would stop trying to sneak off to town.

--

He noticed how their demeanor changed and his shoulders fell slightly. "Friends" he repeated and smiled anyway before he settled down on the bench to sleep

Leon left her to sleep, hoping all would go well.

~~

The twins left so fast it was almost as if they'd vanished via magic.

After a few short minutes, Vlad returned, letting himself in and stretching. It was good to rest before he had to go to official work!

Starnacht was curled up on the bench, trying to get comfortable but finding it difficult on the narrow bench, he liked to sleep curled up and the bench didn't allow for that so he was only half on the bench, he blinked when Vlad came in but said nothing, watching him a moment

He sighed and sat up "It is not comfortable... I sorry" he said, still trying to be good and do whatever he was told. The twins had told him to sleep here so he was trying to. As far as he was concerned, he was the omega, the bottom of this little group so he had to listen to what they told him to do.
