Conley Brothers

he thought about this for a moment "Small space... maybe under bed? or box? Not so open... not so long" he tried to explain what he liked. Curling up in an enclosed space, likely used to cave and the like out in the wild, probably made him feel safer too.

"Hmm," Vlad said, tapping his chin. He looked at his bed. It was a bit of padding on top of storage, much like the bench, but it would be possible to arrange a few things. "I think I can arrange something temporary," he agred. "We'll work on a more long-term solution later."

Vlad knelt and pulled out the drawers under the bed space. Other than the front panel with the middle bar, the space underneath was completely empty. He took a couple of blankets from the drawer that had once been under the bed and put them under as best he could, followed by a couple of pillows.

"How does this feel?" he asked, gesturing toward the improvised bed.

Satarnacht smiled brightly as he looked in at the much more comfortable looking space "Yes more than perfect" he said as he crawled in and curled up much like a cat, even curling his tail around himself "Much thanking" he smiled again, his eyes gleaming from the dark under the bed, like two little stars, his other white spots weren't quite as bright but they gave off their own faint glow now that the grime was wiped away. "Tim and tam not want brother but friend is good yes..." he added as he settled in "Friend good" he repeated more to himself

Vlad smiled as he sat on the floor in front of the bed. "A friend is very good, yes. But what do you mean by brother?" His words were soft and gentle.

Meanwhile, Tim and Tam were reluctantly making their way through the circus in their mission to return the bangle. Spectra had said to, and she would give them a treat if they did!

Star stayed where he was as he spoke to Vlad "You take them to protect like you take me, like father should" he explained "So they like brothers but not want brother only friend" he tried to explain "I miss family... family is good to have"

--

Spectra was humming as she went about decorating her stall, draping silky fabrics and strings of glittering beads all over the place. As always, still in her costume. She only wore mundane human clothes when she went to town for anything. She paused and smiled when she saw the twins coming "There you two are, my little rays of sunshine" she said fondly of the two, stepping down off the stool, even that small movement somehow graceful and inhumanly fluid

Vlad nodded sadly. "Family is very good to have, very good. The thing is, Starnacht, most of the people in this circus have been hurt by people, like you have been, and some do not trust new people. Tim and Tam, they are like that. Once they get to know you, they are happy to have you as a part of the group, but for now, they are scared. They are scared you might hurt them in some way."

~~

"Your stall is always so pretty!" sighed one longingly.
"We brought a pretty," said the other, holding it out with eyes still fastened to the string of beads swaying in the wind.
"We are sad to miss the pretty..."
"But you say it is not our pretty..."
"So we give it back."

Starnacht nodded, he could understand that "Then I earn trust and we be family then" he decided, not discouraged. He had a good attitude about things, shy and timid at first but clearly willing to open up like he had to Vlad. Not too late for him to have a happy life

--

Spectra smiled "Well thank you, I do like things to be pretty too" she said, coming over to them "That's right, it is not your pretty" she said "But you brought it back. I'm proud of you" she smiled "So proud I made you both something very special" first she held out her hand for them to give the bangle back

Vlad reached in and gently patted his arm. "If you have patience, you will win them for certain," he told Star. "Now, I am going to make myself some tea and read for a bit. Would you like some tea? Or do you wish to sleep?"

~~

The twins looked at each other then handed over the bangle with a little less reluctance. "Here!"

Statnacht nodded his understanding of that before he answered his question "i go sleep now, very much tired and more comfortable now yes"

--

Spectra smiled, as they placed the bangle in her hands two identicl golden bamgles looped around their own wrists, one for each of them and mimics disappeared from her hand.

"Rest well. I will try not to disturb you," Vlad said. He stood and moved the drawers up onto his bed. He'd have to figure something later as this would not do. Oh, yes, he was supposed to go see Felix about this tomorrow. Perhaps he'd have some ideas. In the meanwhile, he wanted tea.

~~

The twins stared in fascination, speechless for a whole ten seconds. "Do it again!" they cheered excitedly. "So pretty! These are for us? Shiny!"

Spectra smiled and humored the boys by making thr bracelets disappear and appear again, adding a little flourish of sparkles just for them

The twins squealed excitedly and compared their bangles, looking at them then showing them to each other. Once they'd satisfied themselves, they then turned to Spectra and hugged her. "Thank you! We love this!"

She smiled and hugged them back "you're most welcome" she said and let go of them "now behave you two. I hope I don't have to get after you again today. I'll be very disappointed if I do"

"We don't like you to be disappointed," they said in unison. "Or Vlad, but Vlad does not see as much as you do."

Spectra smiled "and I don't miss much" she said and glanced up "speaking of...I think customers are now arriving. Run along I must tend to my shop"

The twins nodded and dashed back toward Vlad's wagon. Vlad would set up a little shop on the second day, but never on the first. He liked to read the feeling of the people who congregated in the circus before opening for business. They didn't know what it was he looked for, but they were eager to tell him. The circus was now open!

The town was not large so nor were the crowds, at least not on the first day. Kids still at school on friday and all but their evening show would be much more crowded and the next two days would be busy with several shows, enough performers they could alternate. It kept Felix very busy though as he was in every single show. Aside from the night acts for adults only. He had no interest in those.
That left Leon to handle things that couldn't wait as second in command.

Adanya watched over the menagerie. She did not like this part. But was not as bad as it used to be. I stead of the animals being kept in small cages to be poked at and stared at, the people went in to find themselves in a cage and the animals free around them, like they had somehow been transported to the jungle. Adanya of course was in with the animals keeping an eye on them and making sure they behaved.

She kept the predetors and pray separated for this of course just to make things easier

Vlad ensured Starnacht was secure in his little bed and went out among the crowd. It was easy to pick him out as belonging to the circus, and he worked the crowd with a little bit of juggling, a few card tricks, and other street magics that were easy and none of which took actual magic. He also gave directions, made suggestions for families, and occasssionally reunited a small person with their families or found belongings.

The twins stayed near the bit top, watching intently. Vlad did not like them mingling as they often fell into temptation. They waited eagerly for when it was time to work. They loved to work!

Leon hated the crowd. Oh, sure, he loved to show off and be the center of attention, but these crowds were always so chaotic! Still, he had to be there in case of emergancies, so he kept himself availible and looked out for anyone trying to go in off-limits areas.

Between shows Spectra made her way over to Leons cart, of course entertaining the crowds with flips and tricks as she went until she could slip out and stride over, moving with as much inhuman grace as ever she did. "Leon?" She called "you around handsome?"

"Always for you, darling!" Leon said cheerfully. He was wearing another white outfit, this one trimmed in gold, and he seemed to be shining and glittering. He looked positively angelic with his golden locks streaming behind him, as if he'd just stepped out of one of those old Catholic pictures of angelic messengers or something.
