Conley Brothers

No sign of spectra anywhere.

Inside the big top the remaining performers scrambled to make up for the next missing three acts as vlad, the twins and Spectra were all out.

Felix could improvise though didn't like to. So the show would continue to downplay what was going on outside.

Vlad hissed unhappily. He looked around. The fire was starting to draw attention from the few people who hadn't gone into the big top. He focused and whispered a few words. He flicked his hand, and a screen flickered to life in front of the scene of the fire, hiding what was going on behind it. Now it looked like there was nothing but a short little deadend. He couldn't hold this forever, but hopefully long enough to keep things hidden.

Ling finaly arrived on scene right before he put the screen up. Not hesitating to run inside. Fire did not hurt her. Spectra could in in there.

It was several long minutes before the small asian woman came supporting Spectra out of the burning wagon, the fire wicking away from them as they came out.

A bit of dried blood stick to Spectras face from where it had trickled down from her. hair aside from that and the coughing she seemed fine

Leon trotted over to Ling and frowned as he looked over Spectra. "Someone did this on purpose," he growled. "Ling, take her to Camila. You lot, get this fire put out. Everyone else, back to work! Quickly!"

Vlad put a magical timer on the vail he'd set up and hurried back to the big top. People could easily pass through the veil if they knew to, but most non-magical people would see it, get a feeling of disinterest, and pass it by without a second thought. He needed to get back to work!

Spectra caught Leons arm, coughing a moment before she could speak "Camila, they're after Camila" she said as urgently as her voice would currently allow, leaning heavily on Ling, she had inhaled a lot of smoke

Camila was asleep still, unaware of anyone being in there, though they left her alone, leaving an envelope on her table

Leon froze for only a second. Then he was running. Camila's wagon wasn't far, and he ran there heedless of anything in his path. He had to get there first!

When he got there. All was still and quiet though the door was left open.

Inside Camila was asleep, unharmed and unaware

Camilla jumped as he shouted, nearly tumbling out of her bed, bumping her head on the headboard "what? Yeah I'm fine" she rubbed her head as she sat up properly "why? What's goong on?"

"Spectra's wagon is on fire, and she said they were after you. Whoever 'they' are," he panted. "Come with me. You need to stay with the rest of us."

Cami slid her shoes on "is Spectra ok?" She asked with concern and moved to follow him out but paused, spotting the envelope on the table, her brow furrowed slightly as she picked it up "Conley's" was scrawled on the front

"Don't touch that!" Leon warned, reaching out to take the envelop from her. He used his sleeve and guided her to wash her hands. "You didn't see anyone coming in? Anyone at all?"

Confused and now becoming more alarmed as she woke up more, she washed her hands quickly "No I was asleep...why would anyone try to hurt me?" She asked, eyes turning up to her big brother again, Innocently not understanding it was likely to get at her brothers. One or both of them.

Back at Spectra's blazing cart Chib had joined in the battle against the fire. Between him and the impromptu fire bregade they managed to get it out but not before nearly everything was burnt up. For a circus performer, their wagon was their home and Spectra had just lost everything but the clothes on her back.

Thankfully Spectra seemed alright for the most part and the fire had not spread to anyone else's home.

"Never mind," Leon said bluntly as he tucked the letter into a coat pocket. "Come, let's go watch the show. With the fire, things have been thrown off. Let's go see what they do to make up for the chaos."

As he guided his sister out, not really giving her any choice, his jaw clenched. Who would do this and why? The answers were likely in this letter, but he'd wait to read it until Felix was around.

Vlad finished his show, making it extra bright and glamorous to hide the performers scrambling to get set up as they rearranged their order. This was nothing new to him. A performer who worked live always had to be ready to improvise and think on their feet to take in stride everything from hecklers to stage props breaking. He bowed his way out then put the unicorns in a little stall before going out to check on Spectra and the others. While he went out, the twins went on to entertain the crowd.

Camila pulled her arm away as they stepped outside "no not nevermind" she snapped, u usual for her, normally just going along with whatever they said. "Spectra's wagon is burning and someone came into mine while I was sleeping. You can't just say nevermind...what's going on Leon?"

Spectra sat in the grass in the shade of a tree, letting Ling have a look at her head where she had apparently been hit. She tried to stifle a cough.

"Stop moving" Ling scolded as she cleaned up Spectras head

Leon hesitated, startled by his sister's sudden outburst. Then he frowned. "I do not know to tell you," he huffed. "Someone has apparently decided they want to drive us out. For all I know, it's a competing circus looking to sabotage us. Either way, I intend to find them and make them pay. Now come along. I need you somewhere safe." He reached out for her again.

~~

Vlad spotted them and hurried over. "How badly is she hurt?" he asked, his anxiety making his usually very light accept come out strong.

Camila's defiance only went so far, she let him take her arm again and guide her away "Where are we going that's safer than here?" she glanced back at her cart then at him again as they went.

Ling didn't look up from her work cleaning up the cut on her head, stitching it carefully shut. Each stitch Spectra winced, doing her best not to move. "Not bad" Ling assured "But I'm no doctor"

"I'm sure it's fine, just a headache and..." she tried again to stifle the cough "That"

"To the big top near Felix," Leon said. Felix and that hunting dog of his. Leon held no particular fondness for Keith, but Keith was useful in situations like this. And near Felix would be better. The three of them could keep an eye on each other.

~~

"Fresh air will be helpful," Vlad said. "Can I get you some water?"

Cami nodded, she couldn't argue that. Felix was probably the most magically inclined person there even if most never actually saw what he was capable of. She and Leon knew though.

at the bigtop the show was nearing the end, the crowd seeming none the wiser to the change in the show. Felix of course was annoyed behind that mask of a smile he wore for performances

--

"Water would be nice" Spectra said, almost forgetting not to nod as Ling was still working on her head. She wasn't even thinking about where on earth she would sleep until she got a new cart

Leon guided Camila to stand where they could both watch the show. Hopefully that would take her mind off of things. He stopped Keith standing in the shadows, bored, and relaxed a little. Keith wouldn't let anything sneek up on them.

~~

"I will get it," Vlad said. He hurried to get her a cup and soon returned with cool water. "Here you go. Drink carefully and slowly."
