How Green Becomes Wood

"We are moving things at the exact speed we need, and it's none of your business." Cooger huffed, crossing his arms like a petulant toddler, "You don't know anything about what we've done or not. Anyway, it ain't all on me, not like I'm the only one with agency."

"Oh, are you giving us permission to intervene on your behalf?" Daizi asked sweetly.

"I'm certainly not!"

Dark righted Alec, "Consider this payback for all the time you were on my case over what I should or shouldn't be doing about my feelings for Tarot."

"Well that was different," Cooger pointed out, "because y'all were annoying."

"I said what I said."

"All y'all are annoying," Xander muttered, but he was still there on the arm of the chair watching and smirking.

"I could totally ask Toby what Lex's favorite things are and give you the inside scoop!" Alec said brightly. "Then you can surprise her with one or two of her favorite things."

"Or freak her out because he knows her a little too well," Xander pointed out.

"Or you could leave me to mind my own darn buisness," Cooger shot back before looking at Dark, "You see what you've done? You walk around acting all crazed and lovesick all the time, now they think if you ain't acting that way, you're doing it wrong. You're ruining 'em."

"I do not walk around crazed and lovesick," Dark replied indignantly.

"You can't keep away from each other."

"Mmn," Daizi shook her head, "They bet us we could go a full twenty-four hours without so much as holding hands, and we won that bet."

"That's twenty four hours," Cooger replied, "Bet you couldn't make it until your anniversary."

"Please don't!" both twins broke in hurriedly.

"I'm begging you, Cooger, don't tease them with that bet," Xander said sincerely.

"If they take it, do you have any idea just how insufferable they'll be by the time the anniversary rolls around? And the lovesick explosion that's going to happen once the bet is won?" Alec groaned. "You of all people should know what it's like around them!"

"I guess we could always move in with him around the anniversary time," Xander mused.

"That could work," Alec agreed.

"Please," Cooger snorted, "They would barely make it a week. Their anniversary is almost a full month away, and anyway her dad is coming on Tuesday. Do you think they'll be getting handsy under the watchful eye of Saladin Wahid? Even without the bet I'm glad I don't live here."

"I'm not sure if I should be offended or proud you believe we'd win..." Daizi mused.

"I dunno. They have their bedroom to hide in as well as a couple of other corners of the house I bet he wouldn't know to look in," Alec mused.

"Are you sure we can't come hang with you for a while?" Xander asked Cooger.

"And that bedroom and any Dark-shaped closets are why they wouldn't win," Cooger pointed out, "You're welcome to hang with me as much as you like, but you can't live with me. They wouldn't last a week."

"We certainly could last," Dark argued.

"I bet you could last out of sheer stubbornness," Xander said mildly, "and there would be so much fallout around that. You two would be so cranky."

"And then as soon as you win the bet, you'll be velcroed together," Alec concluded.

The twins glanced at each other and then at their parents.

"Alright, then let's see it," Xander dared them. "You think you can do it and not go crazy? Then let Cooger's challenge stand."

"Great, we will." Daizi replied. "I don't think you realize how often we've spent time apart. I used to travel for work."

Dark sat up straighter, "We do need terms, though. Because our family therapist assigned us to go on a date, and I do not like going against medical advice. And I think we should be allowed to hold hands so I do not assault my father-in-law."

"Goose, please do not assault my father."

"This is why I am requesting it be allowed without breaking the bet," Dark replied easily.

"Hmm, you do bring up good points," Alec mused. "Okay. You can hold hands on a day-to-day basis, and during dates you are allowed to link arms and... how about two kisses?"

Xander shrugged. "Sure, I can agree to that. Physical assistance to avoid parental battery will also be allowed since it's not the same thing."

"That sounds fair," Daizi agreed, "Linking arms is for safety, anyway. At least partially."

"Right," Cooger drawled, "If you lose, you don't get to pester me about my love life for a month."

"And when we win?" Dark asked.

Dark considered this for a few moments, "If Cooger gets a month where we do not bother him about his love life, then I want a month where we are not teased for how we Daizi and I participate in ours."

"Sure, whatever," Xander agreed with a nod. They'd laid off a lot since first coming about Dark and Daizi's affectionate ways. Xander hadn't even remarked about how Dark was wrapped around Ivy's finger in ages. What would be so hard about not teasing them for a month?

"You'll have to keep track of the time or else we'll forget," Alec said brightly.

"Good. We are in agreement then." Dark nodded, shaking the hands of anyone whose hands needed shaking while Daizi only shook her head.

"Is touching clothing okay?" Daizi asked, "Like, if tugged on his sleeve?"
