How Green Becomes Wood

"They sound beautiful," Daizi replied, beginning to lean in towards her husband before remembering and straightening up, "It sounds like you picked well. And a bow tie, really? That's fancy, I wouldn't have expected you'd decide on that."

"You're welcome!" Alec said, practically glowing with happiness at his mother's statement.

"Also, our feet are the exact same size, so give me my sock back," Xander stated.

Alec looked at the two socks in his hand. "Hmm. Which one is yours?"

"The one without the owl-eyed kittens on it, the black one, now give!" Xander demanded, reaching for his sock.

Alec leaned back as far as he could, holding the sock out of reach. "Nah!"

"Why are you both fighting over socks?" Dark asked, wondering if there was something wrong with his children or if all siblings did this.

"If you stole my sock, I would fight you for it too," Daizi said with a shrug.

"Your socks would not fit my feet."

Alec threw his own sock at Xander, but Xander batted it away. The pair of them slowly leaned farther and farther back as they wrestled for control of the sock until they fell off the couch. Alec then presented Enkidu with the sock, freeing up both hands to try to restrain Xander as Xander tried to pull himself free. They rolled into their parents' legs but took no notice of it.

"Do not give Enkidu the sock!" Dark said quickly with the same concern he'd have if someone presented a small button, getting up to get the sock back, "He will eat it and then we will need to take him to the vet because it will make him sick."
