How Green Becomes Wood

"Actually, speaking of plans," Daizi said, coming to sit back down, "Dark and I were wondering if either of you would be interested in doing something for the vow renewal? Dark is mostly in charge of the colours and decorations, and I'm mostly in charge of the ceremony itself, and we were just wondering if you would like to participate in anyway."

"We haven't really discussed it yet, because we didn't know if you'd be interested and didn't want to, or what your comfort level around it would be," Daizi answered, "And you both do not need to do the same thing, either, but... For example, we're going to be doing a handfast blessing, which is when our hands are loosely bound together, and if you want, one or both of you can bring your own ribbons to add to it. We also want to do Quaich ceremony, where we drink from the same cup, and one of you could pour the wine into it for us. Or recite a poem, or say a few words. We're very open."

"We can bring ribbons, right?" Alec asked, looking at Xander, who nodded. "And one of us could pour the wine! I don't know about saying anything. Maybe if I could find the right words, but what if I couldn't find them in time?"

"I could pour, if you want," Xander volunteered.

"I think it'd be lovely if you did," Daizi said with a smile, "Would you both help tie the ribbons, then? Or would it just be you, Alec, since Xander would pour the wine?"

"They could also both help tie the ribbons, then Xander could pour the wine, and Alec could bring the cup to us," Dark suggested.

"We were going to bring some, so they matched our colours," Daizi explained, "But I think it'd be nice if you both picked ones of your own, too, because it's our marriage, but it's also our family. All of those roles are interconnected and I think it's meaningful to be bound not only by each other, but by all of this. We're husband and wife, but we're also mother and father, and really the reason why we're doing all of this is is to honour the fact we are still the former while we adjust to becoming the latter, so our children should be represented in that."

"Wow, that's really deep," Xander said, a little surprised though he didn't know why. It made complete sense, and they had talked about this before, but this was the first time he remembered hearing it so condensed. "Yeah, we can pick colors. What colors will you be using? Black and red?"

"I think we decided on black, red, and violet. Black for myself, violet for Daizi, and red for us." Dark answered, the colours being his domain.

"After we're at the altar, my friends in my coven are going to call in the four corners and set our circle, Cooger is officiating so he'll indicate when we begin binding, we'll say our vows while bound, then we'll drink from the cup," Daizi explained, "I thought of us lighting a candle together, Dark and myself, because I find a lot of power in burning, but I know we'll be doing our family candle lighting ritual in December and I thought it might take away from it if we did something similar first. The only thing which bothers me is I'm not sure how to let Ivy help. She's so little, I don't think in two weeks she'll be able to take directions properly."

"Faster than Enkidu could eat a sock," Xander confirmed. "We three could do ribbons, yeah. Ivy's should be green. I could be... I was going to say black, but how about dark purple?"

"I was going to say dark purple, but dark purple would match your suit," Alec mused. "I don't know what color I am. Dark pink?"

Alec lit up at the idea. "That's a great idea!" He looked at Xander, who heaved a sigh.

"Fine, we'll go after school. Not tomorrow. Tomorrow I get tortured with shoes. Day after," he agreed grudgingly.
