How Green Becomes Wood

"Yet somehow I imagine she will use that skill to hide from us when she figures that out." Dark said dryly, "Spider, it really is okay, nothing is piled too high to be difficult to navigate around."

She still wasn't sure if she trusted the reorganization of everything, but she did slowly slide off the couch. "Did your brother build an obstacle course for you, Hummingbird? Is it fun?"

"Ah!" Ivy exclaimed and then giggled, flopping against Daizi.

"Yep! I think it's working out really well," Alec grinned. He crawled awkwardly over to one of the chairs and pulled himself up to sit in it. He'd arranged the chairs to they acted like a tunnel, but while it was a tight squeeze for him, Ivy could fit without issue.

Dark moved to the other side of the tunnel and lowered himself so he could look through it. Now that Daizi was on the ground, Ivy spent a few moments pressed against her to get her big hug. Then she pulled away, squeaked, and went back to crawling around. When she saw her baba's face on the other side of the tunnel, she giggled and started crawling through it to try and get to him.

"Go, Ivy, go! Through the tunnel!" Alec cheered, watching her. He kept on eye on his mother to make certain she was okay and wouldn't accidentally headbutt a chair or something. Everything was pretty soft and covered in blankets, but headbutting a chair would be, at best, disconcerting.

"Come here, Tifla," Dark said, holding out his hands, having to lie in a slightly awkward position because it was difficult to design a baby obstacle course which was also large enough for him. "Come to Baba."

Ivy crawled through the tunnel towards him and Dark, watching her excitement, backed up a little and got onto his knees, still reaching out to her. When Ivy made it through tunnel, she tried to crawl to him and, while out of reach, he blew a kiss. She grumbled and grabbed onto him to try to pull up to stand holding onto his shirt but he grabbed her hand held onto them so when she stood she had to support herself more instead of pulling herself up, "Great job, Ivy," He said, giving her the kiss she desired before turning her around, barely holding onto her.

"I bet she could walk on her own if she was brave enough to try," Dark said, awkwardly shuffling on his knees and helping her walk, only holding onto her hands. Then when he let go, Ivy stopped, standing on her own and sat back down, looking up at him and Dark sighed softly and took her hands, helping her back onto her feet.

"I know she will," Dark replied, sitting back on his knees while holding Ivy up on her feet.

"She talked early, so I'm not surprised it's taking her a little longer to figure out walking," Daizi said, and moved like she wanted to try to find Ivy's toys before recalling she had no idea where any of them were now. "We also just need to entice her."

"She likely would," Dark agreed, letting go of Ivy's hands and picking her up beneath the armpits and swinging her gently back and forth before tossing her gently onto one of the pillows.

"I guess we'll have to keep practicing with her," Daizi smiled, very cautiously shifting around the room so she could be behind one of the cushions before holding her arms out to encourage Ivy to crawl that way, "She is going to sleep well after this."

"Uh-oh, Ivy!" Daizi said excitedly, "Hurry hurry, baby!"

Ivy squealed when she saw Alec hurrying after her and crawled as quickly as she could to Daizi and climbed into her lap.

"Very clever, Ivy," Dark praised.

"Oh no!" Alec laughed. He stretched out his hands but pretended he couldn't reach her. "You've found safety! I can't get you anymore! Grrr!" He grinned and flopped over, watching them. "I guess I have to go hungry, then."

"Mama always keeps her Hummingbird safe," Daizi cooed, nuzzling her face against Ivy's hair before lifting Ivy up and kissing her tummy. "You're such a clever baby."

Dark took out one of Ivy's toys and handed it to Alec, "She is starting to learn to find things when you hide them."

Alec accepted the toy, and for the next while, he played happily with Ivy, hiding the toys and helping her find them when needed. He climbed and clambered all over the place until he was as exhausted as his little sister, perhaps more so.

When they were done playing, he then put the pillows, the blankets, and the furniture back exactly where they were all supposed to go. He had to get Dark's help with the couch, and he studied each placement with infinite care, nudging things just a hair this way and that until he'd managed to put it back truly exactly as it was. It wasn't even an inch out of alignment. Only when he was satisfied did he head to bed and collapse, exhausted.

The next couple of days went by peacefully, and the twins both stayed out of any trouble of any kind. Xander hadn't gotten into a fight or skipped a class in ages. Alec did not rearrange any furniture or get into any arguments, either. All in all, it was all very normal and average.
